While Knight Enchanter has the ultimate defense from all the mages the fun factor is diminished from Spirit Blade you can spam it and never die and it has a lot of synergy with the Inferno tree (most notably Clean Burn and Chaotic Focus). You will be able to see some very big numbers through Fire Mine but nothing much other than that. Definitely not the spell spamming fun you are used to after going Rift Mage.

All in all the Knight Enchanter is very strong but not all that interesting at least not at the Rift mage or even the Necromancer level.

the Pros

Incredible defense you can solo the game on nightmare quite easily, occasional big numbers with Fire Mine, Roleplaying value (if you want your Inquisitor to be the kind of leader that goes to the front lines).

Cons Monotonous and dull after using it a while there isn't much fun in spamming one ability doesn't have the combo potential or utility of the other 2 mage specs.

Note : you could try and play the Knight Enchanter without Spirit Blade and the passive that makes damage into barrier (like a traditional mage) but that in my opinion is a waste of the spec's strengths and you don't gain much other than a more powerful barrier.

Who told you Lightning was the best damage?

Yes Knight Enchanter is good against Dragons especially against their annoying Guard as Spirit Blade eats that **** for breakfast.

I read it somwhere on this forum . They said Lightning was the best for Damage..and that fire was weak .

Fire Mine is the heaviest damage ability a Mage got.

Wall of FIre deals OK damage and is a solid Panic CC.

Clean Burn abd Flashpoint are the 2 most required passives a mage got.

Immolate is a solid AoE on-demand attack.

Lightning is overall more about control.

Chain Lightning is a solid CC and lightning-debuff ability for more damage.

Energy Barrage is your second hardest hitting ability.

A passive(The name escapes me. conduit something) increase damage with low mana.

Static Cage is the ultimate team-dps-ability.

Fire loses to Lightning in 1 scenario: Boss fight/Dragon fight with a fast hitting team. (Sera with FLask of Lightning, Mages with Energy Barrage).

Example:

. At level 21 with 42% attack and 66 damage weapon my Solas FIre mine hit for 2000 detonate and 200 per fire tick. This means a total of 3600 damage from mine is placed + 3 second detonate + 8 second fire dot. A grand total of 120 damage per mana point. Efficient, cheap and since it is a mine -- you can place it ahead of time and kite people into it.

- At the same time my Static Cage added 40 damage per hit added and costs 30 more mana, and got a longer CD: This means you need a total of 90 attacks done within 11 seconds to deal the same amount of damage. Energy barrage is 12, and Sera on Flask of Lightning does somewhere along of 40-50.

With the right setup Static Cage deals more damage, and you can obliterate a boss with it. It's not as efficient as Fire mine, but worth having late-game.

- The other ability tested were Energy Barrage. Our second core ability. With the same setup above they did 100 damage per hit and a cost of 50 ( I believe..) mana. That means a total damage of 1200 and a yield of 24 damage per mana.

TL;DR: Fire beats out Lightning in terms of heavy investment. But a few points in both are required for any mage build. Energy Barrage + Conduit-something in Storm and Clean Burn in Inferno.

Knight Enchanter builds on the same concept an Arcane Warrior did, though it falls a little through due to design reasons. It's a tank-mage that can't actually tank, since they get no taunts. This means they are more of a support-tanky-dps that lacks team synergy. For better or worse. This means it's the perfect specialization to solo with, and is also the odd sheep around if you want to try something different this time around. You can keep barrier up at all times, and gain mana from being in melee. This leads you to a  very... particular.. playstyle. You Spirit Blade to maintain barrier, then cast a few spells, then spirit blade, then spells, etc, etc. It's rather relaxing but just as the Reaver 2 handed warrior -- it gets boring.

So, for a more formal list:

Pro's:

- Easy to play

- Can solo High Dragons with no gear on.

- Not dependant on team and AI

- Flashy effects. Spirit Blade looks awesome.

Con's

- Mediocre damage. Yes, yes. I know somebody will try to argue they are good damage. Numbers do not lie.

- Repetetive playstye.

- No team synergy. You can't set up combos or capitalize on teams combos. You are stuck on your own game.

Give it a try and see if you like it! It's worth a play. You'll either love it -- or you'll hate it. It's one of those specializations/classes
