You know, maybe it's because I did the first 3 runs as Mage, but the Templar mission just doesn't resonate with me as much and I hate missing out on Alexius. I do love Ser Barris and certainly favor him to Fiona. I haven't seen enough to judge for sure yet (have not finished the game this way, not sure about Calpernia). But as to the mission itself, I find the Mage one more engaging, and Dorian's place in it better than Cole's in the Templar, and as for how it impacts the assault on Haven, it's better if weirdo Cole is the one to arrive suddenly and help Roderick fuzzle around in his last moments. Or at least it seems better to me. It is touching, in the Dorian scenario, to know Roderick asked for his apology to be conveyed (when Cole says he was sorry, it's never clear Roderick SAID it), though.
Honestly, with all the pros and cons to doing each, they did a remarkable job on making it feel both balanced and like you're missing out either way. I wish there were more totally branching missions.
I prefer the templar mission as I just found it more interesting and engaging. The stakes felt higher IMO, as the envy demon was trying to take control of you, and if you failed it walks in your skin.
I do think that there should have been more content for both sides, both before and after. There should have been multiple different quests. also both should have gotten to learn about cory.
See... The stakes feel higher to me in the Mage one, because you get to see what the world will come to, truly, and not just the mirror of a demon's hopes. However, personal =/ higher stakes for me.
I do see your point, but the extremely awful future at Redcliffe was more jarring to me than the Envy demon trying to possess me. I just figured he wasn't really saying the future but what he hoped and that an Envy demon in my skin couldn't really do those things (the story doesn't convince me why they'd listen to things like jailing Josephine).
