Is it just me, or does the pro-Templar run make for the better story?

This Temple of Dumat thing, where is this exactly?

I believe you have to speak with Lelianna and at some point you will start talking about a crystal that can record voices. You do the war table missions after that and the Temple should appear on your world map

Templar route definitely sounds more interesting, but I love the college of enchanters ending, so I'm always recruiting the mages

I like the College of Enchanters ending as well, and the Templar mission sounds cool too, but I like Back to the Future starring Inquisitor Trevelyan and Freddie Mercury Dorian. I would imagine the College is formed even if you save the Templars, just that Fiona is dead.

You know, maybe it's because I did the first 3 runs as Mage, but the Templar mission just doesn't resonate with me as much and I hate missing out on Alexius. I do love Ser Barris and certainly favor him to Fiona. I haven't seen enough to judge for sure yet (have not finished the game this way, not sure about Calpernia). But as to the mission itself, I find the Mage one more engaging, and Dorian's place in it better than Cole's in the Templar, and as for how it impacts the assault on Haven, it's better if weirdo Cole is the one to arrive suddenly and help Roderick fuzzle around in his last moments. Or at least it seems better to me. It is touching, in the Dorian scenario, to know Roderick asked for his apology to be conveyed (when Cole says he was sorry, it's never clear Roderick SAID it), though.

Honestly, with all the pros and cons to doing each, they did a remarkable job on making it feel both balanced and like you're missing out either way. I wish there were more totally branching missions.

I prefer the templar mission as I just found it more interesting and engaging. The stakes felt higher IMO, as the envy demon was trying to take control of you, and if you failed it walks in your skin.

I do think that there should have been more content for both sides, both before and after. There should have been multiple different quests. also both should have gotten to learn about cory.

See... The stakes feel higher to me in the Mage one, because you get to see what the world will come to, truly, and not just the mirror of a demon's hopes. However, personal =/ higher stakes for me.

I do see your point, but the extremely awful future at Redcliffe was more jarring to me than the Envy demon trying to possess me. I just figured he wasn't really saying the future but what he hoped and that an Envy demon in my skin couldn't really do those things (the story doesn't convince me why they'd listen to things like jailing Josephine).

I've barely even started the Templar side of things and I 100% agree it's far better than the mages. All the points you mentioned just make me even more excited to keep playing. (I have in fact finished the Mage side).

Although I disagree with people who are saying the time travel is stupid (I found it very interesting). I think it was very effective in making Corypheus feel like something the inquisition needed to be very afraid of- rather than just "oh here's this bad guy who is going to do bad stuff if you don't stop him."

I just like that Ser Barris and the Templars feel like a true alliance in this game, actually taking part in missions and such. The mages kind of just sat around and did nothing.

I so agree, I shook my head when I actually saw the whole thing play out. I can't believe that lie was even told.

Seriously. I did the mage quest and my mouth was gaped open. Then the rage came in.

Wish I never even did it and just thought that crap had been taken out.

Why? The Mages are being subverted and tricked into serving Corypheus just like the Templars. And once she figures out what's really going on, Fiona turns on Alexius just like Ser Barris.

i agree,  because i sympathize far more with Calpernia than Samson and because magic needs to be supervised. I freed Calpernia to make tevinter better, but if i free the mages Leliana becomes divine, i get to save Fiona, and last but not least, i get more cullen scenes :P  Even though Fiona makes some idiotic decisions i really dont want her to die. I was so hoping that we could reunite her with Alistair. It makes sense if he is king to keep quiet about his elven blood, but if he is a warden, whats the point? Especially considering the fact that warden ali is quite miserable and lonely. Tbh i went pro templar in my first playthrough, even though i always play a mage, cuz its common sense, and because Fionas revelation was so startling it was hard for me to take her seriously. The outcome of freeing the mages ends up being exactly what i want, so i do it, even though i dont necessarily agree with everything it entails. Lelianas approach, and the ideals that fuel it,  are the exact same as my own would be, if i were in her position. The inqusition ends up being one of the most powerful organisations in thedas by the end and has the capacity and opportunity to reshape the chantry, which neither cass nor viv really take advantage off. Cass claims she wants to but her approach is too appeasing and conservative , and viv is only out for viv so ofc she wants to maintain a status quo that benefits her.

the envy demon is epic?   its the most pathetic excuse of a villain ive ever seen. It looks like a giant and mutated praying mantis with anorexia.

Siding with the templars is worth it just for Champions of the Just, I love that quest so much.

Agreed OP.

The time travel garbage in the mage plot just turned me completely off. (Really didn't help that I remember the E3 choices and consequences crapola with the clips from that mission. Sorry but a "do over screen" is not "we sent Leliana in her unprepared and she was tortured and that would damage our relationship with her". Get the hell out of here with that bull).

I also liked "Having Dorian in our party gives us options we otherwise wouldn't have"

I also like choosing the Templars here  alot more even though i've chosen the mages in the other two games.

Ser Barris is awesome, it's a shame he can't really become a companion in an expansion/new game.

There is the possibility of turning the templars you got into loyal knights of the Inquisition if Cassandra is Divine.

The Mages still just want freedom and they rub me the wrong way, especially Fiona. Barley appreciative of everything the Inquisition did for her, The templars are atoning for their wrongs and actually help out.

This is what makes it hard to choose. I prefer the college of enchanters ending so that ultimately makes me lean toward mages. I agree that this game does a pretty good job of balancing them.

I agree, the pro Templar side didn't have as good of a set up as the pro Mage run but it was far more satisfying. The urgency in finding the Templar officers battling for their lives while at the same time checking up on the ones fighting in the hall was way more intense than just hunting for some red lyrium. I hate recruiting Dorian later but his entrance during the attack on Haven more than made up for it cause he totally stole the spotlight moreso than Cole's appearance in the same scenario. I think Cole's character shines during the Templar quest and his appearance in the war room after wards.

Also, another awesome addition to picking the Temps is a war table mission with the noble you meet up(if he lives) with and an Avvar chief. I'm planning a play through soon where I'm gonna keep him alive.

Wait, you mean that loudmouth that insults Barris so much?  That noble?  He can live? O.o

How do you do that?

Apparently just don't do the flags. He'll live.

I always do the flags so that came as a surprise to me too.

I'll do it for the best diplo duo though. XD

Sigh.  -_-

I can't recall a single game in my entire adult life (I'm approaching forty) that didn't have content cut or altered during development.

I was actually pleased to discover that the story hadn't been spoiled for me by the demos.  But sure, you go ahead and continue complaining about how you were lied to

Thank you.   :)

Sneaky Bioware.  I thought for sure that refusing the flags would be rude.  Probably still is!  Given the outcome of the meeting however, I can't say being rude bothers me much, from a OOC perspective.

This. I found the Red Templars to be better mooks than the Venatori. At Haven, the boss at the Trebuchet is this giant red lyrium behemoth while if you side with the Templars, the boss is just a buffed venatori mage. Red Templars > Venatori.

No it isn't. It's Fiona. :D

I know its Fiona. I'm just saying that Fiona is just a reskinned and buffed Venatori mage and unlike some people I don't have the murder boner for her so killing her is not a plus for me.

I totally prefer the Templar Mission in this game. Not only did I find it a more compelling and dramatic story than something that felt a little too Days of Future Past, Cole gets a better introduction, you see more of Corypheus motivations. Ser Barris does a great job of reminding you that not all Templars are ass hats and the Skywatcher & Lord Abernache war table mission is hilarious.

It's an all round more rewarding play through than cleaning up Fiona's mess... and you can still abolish the circles and recruit mages... just not the rebels.

My warrior has been enjoying the templar side of the game.

so much in fact im pondering starting a pro circle mage who sides with the Templars and chooses knight enchanter as the specialisation.
