yep i guess whith there Dalish nature the Elf Quizy is half Twig on his fathers side.
So I decided to make a male elf character and he looks like a forced starvation victim...

I'm not usually one to complain about stuff like this but I agree that the elf models are disgusting looking. I started to play with a female elven archer and I had to stop because watching her shoot a bow with those twig arms was just laughable. The human female is not much better tbh.
Twig arms have always been a problem with bioware females, lol. It was the same in Origins, the same in swtor. Their arms look like picking up a dinner fork would be tough, let alone a sword. ![]()

Yea the elves are hella skinny. Its alright during the first few minutes of the game, but when you are able to put on armor that isn't that green coat you start off with its just creepy how much body mass characters seem to lose. I also noticed that elve's heads seem to be freaking huge compared to how tiny their bodies are.

yes its sickening and why they decided to go ahead with it is beyond me, especially considering the fact that the companion elves are normal looking.

I have no idea why they didn't just give us Sera and Solas's models, they were the perfect amount of 'lithe' without over doing it. I feel like my female elf's legs are going to snap in half at any given moment.

Sera uses the human female body.

Solas seems to have some upper body muscles going on. (Not like I stare at him a lot or anything... ahem)
I was a bit annoyed with the slenderness of male elves at first as well but the more I play my male Lavellan the less I'm bothered by it. Dorian has enough upper body meat for the both of them. Females however.... those arms. I just...can't. But...Solas.

I like how she seems to be aware of this, since she will say that elves are like a sack of chicken necks.

Yep I can't even take female archers seriously because of those arms. They're just so bad.
And fem elf is :X but I put up with it by making her a mage and having her wear long cloak. But the skyhold outfit looks god awful.

Sera uses the human female body.
When you equip her in generic armor, yes. Though when wearing their own styles with the crafted armor, each of the companions has a unique body model. Sera's is slightly slimmer than the human female's. While Solas has broader shoulders than the male elf pc when wearing crafted armor, but they revert to the default when equipped in the generic elven armors.

Sera does not wear elven armor, she refuses to wear it.

I'm really hoping I can find some armor for my female elf to hide how skinny she is. I know later you can use Silverite to wear any armor style on any character, so hopefully that will help.

I know, I was using that comparison for Solas. I meant that she uses the default female human body when you equip her in the armor that is 'human-only', or such, but when the companions are in their uniquely styled armor, they tend to have their own unique body models. Ex: Vivienne had wider hips than the human female model, but can still wear the generic armors; Iron Bull technically has the Qunari model, but he's far more built; Blackwall uses the male human model, but he's slightly more rotund in his unique armors as well. Sera 'technically' uses the female human body model, and Solas 'technically' uses the male elf body model, but both have their own unique variations. But sorry, this is probably way off topic. I just meant that I would have liked to see the elves have more similar body models to these two.

There's two thoughts when developing fantasy:
1. We need to make this exactly like Lord of the Rings
2. We need to make this exactly like Lord of the Rings except for a few insignificant differences so that we can pretend to be unique
Probably the best example of this is in the Eragon series, where dwarves have seven toes.
"Why do dwarves have seven toes", you might ask.
I read like, three of the books for some reason, and it doesn't ever matter. I can't even imagine a way it could ever matter. The series essentially just says "don't you worry about why dwarves have seven toes, let me worry about blank."
Dragon Age does this with elves. It feels like the writers wanted to be able to brag to other fantasy writers at some big fantasy writer wine mixer. "Yeah, our elves are different, they're not just humans with pointy ears. They're humans with pointy ears and weird nose bridges!"
Except that was mostly scrapped, too.
Now, they're just "humans with pointy ears that need to eat some more."
If any of the writers is reading this:
No. One. Cares. If. Races. Are. Exactly. Like. Tolkein's. Versions.
Frakly it's not the skinny body that bothers me, but the lack of shoulders and the lookalike broken arms when the male elf is standing up, it's so weird that you can't stop laugh and be

I know plenty of (human) men who are built like this. They just have really thin skeletons. This does not make them emaciated. As far as I'm concerned, the only problem the elf model has it that the shoulders are a bit too small and the upper arms look permanently broken.

I have no problem with the female elf model; I like that they're small and pixie-like. But males should really look like they're physically able to fight and fend for themselves, which they do not look like.
I mean, hard to believe these guys were once the famed Emerald Knights... right?

Yeah... They look fine in most armors but in the Inquisitor's Pyjamas they look awful. I could sort of stomach it, then I got to Skyhold and remember unlike Haven, you need to wear your PJs everywhere. I can't play elves for this reason.

I agree to an extent. I prefer the willowy/lithe figure of elves so that they look more like their own race instead of just "short humans with pointy ears" like in DAO. However, I do think they're a little too skinny. For male elves I actually prefer the build of Fenris from DA2 since even though he's skinny he still looks formidable and strong. At the very least he looks like he could swing a one-handed sword without toppling over.
It's odd because I think I remember someone making a post saying that the build of the DAI elves was pretty much the same as the elves from DA2 so I'm not sure what makes Fenris appear far stronger than my Inquisitor. Maybe it's the armour?

Agreed with this.
I don't think the Armour affects his look all that much, you can see the skin on his arms, though still he was not as thin as male elves in DAI are. But they were the same height as humans in DA2 so maybe that had an effect. Maybe their stance too, Fenris had that battle-ready stance at all times.

I had no idea it was this bad as I never play male characters. This is just awful, his arms look deflated. The armor is actually caved in. I didn't realize it was so distracting.
Female elves, fortunately, don't have this problem, and I got used to the really thin body, though at first I was shocked & grossed out by it. Then I started another human female and thought she seemed really chunky in everything she wore...even though I didn't feel that way with my 1st character, also a human. It's funny how one's perception can be altered like that.
