Legion died in the vents with all upgrades.

Thane died because I was dumb enough to pick him to hold the line.

You don't need to have all your crap upgraded. I only upgraded assault rifles fully, and one or two upgrades of the other stuff. Needless to say, you'd need to upgrade all the ship defense upgrades (except med bay and probes and possibly fuel, though you'd want it), and most likely upgrades that are related to your squad member's power (like Jack's biotic thingy, Mordin's omni-tool, Grunt's shotgun, you get the picture).

I got the No One Left Behind and here's what I did aside from what I mentioned above:

Did all of their loyalty quests and have them remain loyal. When on last main plot mission, have Legion do the hacking (logical enough, he is basically more advanced than AI and process information at light speed), picked Mirando as the fire team leader (her info stated that she was a great tactician). Later on have Garrus (think about his stint as Archangel) as the distraction team leader and have Jacob escort the doc back, and Samara on my team as the biotic (most logical choice, a matriarch level asari - come on). I brought Mordin and Grunt with me on the finsh battle.

As much as I'd have like to bring Legion and Grunt (one has the ultimate shotgun and one has the sniper rifle), Mordin kept dying on me on my tries. I figured I'd try and see if bringing Mordin with me would keep him alive (and hoping he wouldn't be buried alive).

Let me know if I left anything out. Help that helps :) It took me a while to figure out, and it was frustrating to keep seeing my team dying on me, laying limp on the floor :(

As far as I can tell, people in your party can't die.

Actually they can. If you don't have Samara or possibly Jack with you at the final 'Swarm' mission then one of your party members can die because whoever is holding the shield gets tired and it flickers off.

Just finished it without anyone dying on the first try.

1st Shepard Team: Legion/Grunt
1st Fire Team Leader: Garrus
Tech Specialist: Tali

2nd Shepard Team: Legion/Garrus
2nd Fire Team Leader: Miranda
Biotic Specialist: Subject Zero
Escort: Zaeed(would've made Jacob do it if I didn't have the DLC)

3rd Shepard Team: Legion/Thane

I didn't do any personal upgrades, but I did all ship upgrades that I could. I did everyones loyalty mission except Samara because I'm not fond of the character. I lost Mordin when he tried to close a door and I lost Miranda somehow, when she and everyone else was covering my back for the last part. I guess it's just luck...I thought we were gonna get slaughtered.

My team consisted of this:

1st team: Garrus and Tali

Fire Team leader: Miranda

tech specialist would be Legion

2nd team: Tali and Legion

distraction team leader: Miranda again

biotic specialist: samara

escort: Grunt

3rd shepard team: Legion and Tali

likewise all upgrades, personal missions done.

Hmm, this thread is not helping me. Im in the last mission now and well..Jacob died. I don't really care much for Jacob, but don't want him to die unnecessarily!

I didn't think there was any logic in it. From ME1 did it make I difference who was defusing the bomb even though Ashley said Alenko should? I had Ashley do it.

What do people think of personality conflicts? Have Miranda and Jack been on the same fire team and both make it out alive? Because I usually have both on my team actually.

In ME1 you chose whom to left behind using dialogue options - no matter who does what.

I got all survived on:

1st Team: Tali and Miranda

2nd Team: Samara and Garrus

Escort: Jacob

Thane and Grunt went with me. All were loyal, all Normandy upgrades. Damn I was bloody nervous doing the last mission.

After getting every upgrade for both the Normandy and my team, these were my choices:

Infiltration Specialist: Tali
First Team Leader: Garrus
Biotic Specialist: Jack
Second Team Leader: Garrus
Escort Specialist: Samara

Everyone survived, no casualties from the Normandy survivors.

At first I picked Jacob for infiltration solely because he volunteered, but then he got BOOM! Headshotted, so I reloaded and went with an actual tech specialist. I figured my Shepard would want to send someone he knew he could trust absolutely, and that meant Tali; it was the same for Garrus as the fire team leader. Jack was recruited because she's an uber-powerful biotic, so it made sense to pick her to hold the field. Samara was sworn to protect innocent lives, so it made sense to have her escort the surviving crew back to the Normandy.

From my experience at the final mission, if you have all upgrades and loyalty, the characters you choose to be in certain positions might affect how much time you have to finish each segement.

A character not suited for the situation you have chosen them for might give you less 'leeway' and you must finish the segment of the mission faster.

At least that's the impression I got with about 10 replays.

"No One Left Behind" is a very challenging achievement to get. However, make sure that you read the short character synopses right before you choose your Fire Team Leader(s)/Hacker/Biotic Shield.

What about Mordin randomly dying for no apparent clear cut reason.

His salarian short life-span catches up with him or something and he has a stroke or something??

I think it's B.S. that Samara was a poor choice as a fireteam leader.  She's like 1,000 years old and the pinnacle of calm/stocism, powerful warrior, and extremely experienced and used to long-odd situations.

She also spent most of her time as a Justicar traveling alone - she's not a leader, she's a solo combat specialist.  Age is irrelevant if you don't have the experience.

Gosh, I guess I'm the only one who lost poor old Zaeed and noone else.

I made him commander of the fire team during the biotic escort part. Had only used him on a couple of missions in the game (He went paragon-loyal on me after Zorya) and figured it was time for him to shine. Once my biotic-escort (Loyal Jack kicks ass btw) reached the rendesvouz point, Zaeed went bonkers on the radio and took a bullet in the gut shortly after the doors opened.

Tough old salt's final words were "Figgered it might end like this" ..

Not going to do a rerun though.. I find his death oddly fitting; the final stand of an old veteran, one who has only looked out for himself, in humanity's name.

Oh, and I had the good Doctor and Grunt with me for the entire mission. Mordin NEVER failed, definetly tougher than he looks.

My setup, which resulted in Mordin dying.  Image IPBImage IPB
1st fire team leader: Garrus
Tech specialist:  Legion
Biotic: Samara/Morith
Second Team Leader: Miranda
Escort: Grunt
My team, the last battle:  Thane and Garrus.

I'm going to give it a run through again with an old save.  Lord Vicar Shepard leaves no one behind.  It's my other Shepard that's a selfish harlot.

hmmmm here's what I did

1. Did all squad's loyalty quests

2. Upgraded Normandy's armor, shields, and hull

3. Chose Tali for the vents. Miranda to lead both teams, used Samara for the biotic bubble, Jacob as the crew escort and took Jack and Mordin to the final boss

4. I did the Omega 4 relay immediately after picking up Legion and did his loyalty quest. Saved my entire crew.

Sooo... yeah... that's my formula and got everyone including Shep out alive

That is what I did when I did my first run though... except my Normandy was fully upgraded... Teams were identical and got everyone out... When I got back to the Normandy there was one crewmember in the med bay but everyone survived... even the non-named guys.
