Fade-touched Dales Loden Wool gives a 10% chance to activate caltrops at 70% weapon damage per second. I am considering using this masterwork for role-playing reasons (as a dual-wield artificer), but was wondering if anyone else is using it and has worked out if the speed reduction is the base 25% or is 50% (as per the upgrade). Similarly whether the radius is 3m or 5m.

I realise that it's underpowered offensively compared compared to hidden blades, and defensively compared to fade cloak/walking fortress masterworks, but figure it might be fun and viable and add to the amount of crazy trappage on the battlefield. Plus 70% AOE weapon damage per second and a 50% reduction in enemy attack speed wouldn't be terrible.

not only does it sound fun, but I bet you'll be the first to realize some long-overlooked trick caltrops has.

I was interested in trying this as an archer. If it lands on your target and benefits from Artificer bonuses, it could get pretty awesome.

There seems to be a bug with this masterwork. Every time it procs, it instantly kills me.

I haven't custom crafted this effect onto anything, but I found a blue bow with "10% chance to drop caltrops at 30% weapon damage per second." Unfortunately whenever it proc'd, the caltrops dropped around my character, not around the enemy that I was hitting. I assume the custom version would be the same, so it would be much more viable for DW than archer.

Melee artificer with two daggers with caltrops GO GO GO!

Caltrops for days. The artificer bonus that increases trap damage does apply to caltrops. I would imagine that the upgrade for caltops would apply to the weapon drops. Even if it doesn't, it would still be good. Hook and Tackle+Spike Trap+Caltrops is too good.

My advice: Just do it.
