I'll agree with most of this.

Except if they remove 75% of the side quests and exploration the forums would be aflame with how "linear" it is.

Most if not all the people(I'm not speaking for everyone btw, just what I've noticed on these forums) myself included were unhappy with the game received not being the game that was shown at E3 and various other Gaming Conventions.

Yes you can argue "Well that was an Alpha build, things can change blah blah blah". But to me what they showed was a completely different take on the game we recieved.

I disagree. I think you are just having a hard time conceptualizing how accurate their description of the game really was.

Alot of the content they revealed disappeared. Hell I may be playing wrong or something but for some reason even the combat, quests, areas look completely different than what we've got in the game now.

There are some changes if you want to call it that I'll admit, but the core concept is the same and that's what I was getting at.

It's amazing how much different and better the game is when you get even just one cut-scene and even just one choice to make in the side quest zones.

I like the game but it has it's flaws.

Things like dumbing down skill numbers, limiting armor by race, placing drops in a RNG system, lack of post creation character editor, lack of a large number of uniqe gear,  lack of item chest, not so much interesting side quests etc etc. make the game more tedious. It doesn't help the replay value.

I dread to think what the game would have been if they relased it in the first original date.

I could replay Origins on a large number of times, hell I could replay DA ][ just to check different personalities or the Hawke siblings as companions... here I see no thing that would make me try again. It feels borring, hollow at times.

Also PC version needs patching, CTD every hour are not funny.

I really wanted to like this game, but after finding the 87897152 enemy inmune to my mage spells, Hawke appearence, Warden absence, terribe controls, boring mages, extremely boring enormous maps, itemization requiring absurd amounts of "auto-search" taking stones, herbs, etc from the ground, lore contradictions and boring codex...

Anyone else at this point? Today I'd been certain I would not touch the game again; after 60 hours I've had enough. At some level, I feel bad because I like Bioware and Dragon Age lore, but this game simply feels appointed to someone that is not me.

Anyone else stopped playing after so much time trying?

I will make a brave prediciton:

not only will you play the game again; you will also buy the next Dragon Age.

People emotionally attached enough to come to the forums to complain will stay with the franchise.  The folks who really won't buy the next Dragon Age just uninstalled the game and went on with their lives.

Regardless, (in my opinion) I reckon the devs would be interested to hear from long term fans of the series who were having trouble maintaining interest.

(Edit: Because people who make art and entertainment surely want people to enjoy it. I mean, who knows? But, if I were making a thing and people bought it, I may not change it, or provide a refund, or apologise for it, if people, especially long term fans, disliked aspects of it, or worse didn't finish it, but I'd certainly want to know the why of it. I'd assume the devs would think this way, but like I said, who really knows?)

I struggled for a month with bugs and level design, while also absolutely loving aspects of combat and feeling a bit mixed on characters, was sad to leave the game behind when I went on holiday, but am now enjoying The Walking Dead and The Banner Saga on my laptop while away and remembering what it is like to be properly engaged and happy with a game.

I do understand that wanting to love it thing. I dunno what other game I would have put up with this many crashes for, not to mention walking across massive levels.

I'm not the person this was in response to, but even if I do shelve inquisition, I'm on board for the next DA thing. Who knows what will be next?

(Edit: my point being, people who may not entirely dig DAI may still be into the series, it's not mutually exclusive.)

(to Salaya) You do realise you spoiled something potentially big for many on the NO SPOILERS scuttlebutt?
If you had to make this thread here instead of on the Spoiler scuttlebutt, at the very least you could have labeled it or avoided mentioning names.

And no, not everyone watches the trailers of the game because of that exact reason so not all saw that reveal.

I'm sorry to hear that; I don't think that's spoilerish, since devs talked about it even on these subforums, but I'll hide it nonetheless. Sorry for the inconvinience.

If you didn't like the game for 60 hours (shouldn't have put so many in the first place on a game in which you didn't find a single good thing), playing more is a waste of time imo. It is a smashing game but then no game can be for everyone.

Hi Salaya!

Wow Im sorry to hear you aren't enjoying the game as much as you wanted. I play mage a lot but have got frustrated by the very limited skill bar. I did notice a lot of creatures are immune to many types of spells which meant I tried to have spells from all the trees, some lighting, cold, fire and spirit.

Well I have put in about 250 hours in DAI and I went through a point where I had to give up with one character as I wasn't enjoying the romance arc as much as I thought I would. By this stage in many other rpgs the modders would have put out a lot of content and cosmetic improvements. I am REALLY missing that as I have seen all the armours and weapons in my three other playthroughs. I really need some more stuff to get excited about.

Sigh, wish for some more nice things to run around in.

I think this game is fabulous but for me replayability is limited  due to a lack of mods/dlc, I didn't realise how much I would miss them. I put in over 1500 intro DAO due to the amazing mods and content made for that game by modders. In the process I bought every bit of dlc that was released. I can't see myself sticking much longer with this game and when I move onto other games I can't see myself returning for dlc.

Bad hair for girls!

I'm on my 4th playthrough (300+ hours) and can't wait for some meaty patches and DLC. Different strokes...

Same can't wait for the DLC's to come.

Just finshed my first playthrough at 173 hours and was lvl 23, take of 10 hours for remaking several times my character lol didn't finsh everything on the war table either got a bit impatient towards the end wanted to see the ending, going to be interesting if they carry on the story from where it ended.

Played as a Mage which became KE when the choice was given and actually enjoyed the class but next time I will choose Rift Mage.Even with all the bugs and crashes to desktop I still enjoyed the game,Only came across couple of quests I could not start or finish and one was my own fault for judging the character before turning the quest in lol.

I got 38/50 achievments first time round so going to go for all 50 this time and see if I can find any exalted Mounts didn't find any

Going to have a few days rest before I start another run.

:)

I'm in the middle of a second playthrough, but all the boring MMORPG zones, to level-up my chars, a second time is really a pain. They should have used a single large word like Skyrim with caves and hidden encounters or at max 3 of the zones (1 desert,1 winter,1 central European climate).

I hope I will be able to finish it until February.

173 hours and you didn't even complete everything on the war table??

I managed to go on for something like 200 hours with Skyrim, but just because I absolutely loved it (and I didn't have a job at that time, and I didn't live with my girlfriend). After the first playthrough I tried to play it once again, to do all the quests I had decided to skip the first time (most notably the Dark Brotherhood quests because I was roleplaying as a good imperial guy) but I wasn't able to force myself to grind through 150 hours of the same content just because I wanted to experience the 50 hours of new stuff that I had left behind. Let me repeat myself: I absolutely LOVED Skyrim, but another 200 hours... it was too much.

Seriously guys... I know people that spent thousands of hours on games like Call of Duty or World of Warcraft. But for a person like me having to invest more than 100 hours to experience everything a game has to offer... it's too much. And let's be honest: to be longer than 100 hours a game has to include lots of grinding. Only three kinds of games can have their players do the same thing over and over without being pissed off:

 - Competitive games (League of Legends, Starcraft, Call of Duty...)

 - Community based games (World of Warcraft, Guildwars...)

 - Loot based games (Diablo, Borderlands...)

Story based games like Dragon Age can't require their players to grind for 170 hours just to experience what they have to offer. They can't ask me to go around finding X Red Lyrium deposits just to know what Varric has to say at the end of it. It's not fair.

Sorry for the rant, but now I'm really sad.

I dislike when people use this example of Crestwood. I'm disappointed this quest changed, but this was revealed a year and a half before the game released and was pre alpha and it was never officially released. Some audience member recorded it. The only thing it does when people continue to use this example is makes it feel like their better off not showing anything early to give people an idea of what to expect.

It's not like BioWare didn't know this video/information had surfaced. They could have easily come out and (in no uncertain terms) explained that the content in that video would not be making it to the live version of the game. But they didn't, because the hype generated by that video was worth its weight in gold.

I think what BIoWare should do is not release any content so people can't attach themselves to that content when it is labeled "alpha content and subject to change" that way they don't have to wonder if people are going to become upset if something changed.  I rather have content changed like Crestwood for if the system didn't work properly in the game and they leave it in because "it was in an alpha demo" and then becomes a broken element of the game.

Why would they 1.5 years before final content is done? They were obvIously working on it with the expectation themselves that it would be in the game. The hype was great - but again, it's a huge chunk of time before the game is final. Things change. I'm bummed, but I'm not holding them to something they were working on way back when.

ME 4 - said the Mako is back. I'm excited but still understand things can change at that stage.

Yeah some of the side missions I left,as I was starting to get the point of wanting to finsh the game to see the ending also some of the missions had very long timers and I just decided to not do them.

Spoiler

Also played skyrim and yes liked the game but found it lacking compaired to this and I also spent over 200 hours playing Skyrim and modded it to extend the gameplay, maybe it's due to story and how they carry on from each other that I enjoyed Dragon Age Inq over skyrim it's hard to put a finger on it tbh

Do timers become longer than 1 hour in the later stages of the game?

I could always let them progress while I go to sleep...
