My friends and I can't connect to eachother at all and I can't seem to search for quick matches either.

Both Sony and Microsoft were hacked in the last 12 hours, which is why both services are in maintenance.

Is there somewhere that will show the status on this hacked crap? It seems to happen quite a bit and it's nice to know when the system runs like uber uber trash, it's because of the hacked nonsense and not normal everyday this system runs like dog crap nonsense, lol.

https://support.xbox...box-live-status
And this...
https://downdetector.../xbox-live/map/
Neither are 100% accurate, but it gives you an idea. The map was crazy a while ago and is clear for me now. Status says Limited but works fine for me now. Hope you clear up soon.

What was the goal of the DDoS again? Did they think of collateral damage?
I kind of view it as using a rocket launcher to take out the child on a playground who might one day maybe do something you glance twice at. They're like "We got him! Cheers!" and everyone else has a sane reaction to the children slaughtered for no reason.

I can't even play the damn single player because I can't access my saved game data because I can't stay logged into Live. This is freaking bullcrap. The saved data is on my hard drive! It's right there! Let me access it! Live is no help either, I tried text support and there were just all "you can't stay logged in right now, our service is down, we don't know why or for how long for."

I actually disagree completely because of the overabundance of BS DRM. What's that? You bought a disc based copy of a new game, and the net is out? Well up yours, you need to wait until you can connect to the service to install/play it, trololololol! I'm sorry, but this is completely inexcuseable, and it's the main reason I stick primarily to consoles. If I pay for something, I want to be able to freaking USE the damn thing. That's like having your car stop working because your cell lost reception. We don't stand for this elsewhere, so why do people get away with it on PC?

That's my problem on the One right now though, I can't connect to Live aka the internet, so it won't let me log into my account and access my saved games. The result is the same. The saved game data should be on my hard drive, there is no reason to not let me use it. There's no reason to not let me log in just because I can't get on the internet either, that NEVER happened on the 360. It might not connect to live, but I'd always be able to log in to get my saved game data for single player games regardless of server status.

Common misconception: DDoS is not hacking, as the attacker is unable to gain unlawful access to the target. It is simply flooding a server with an overflow of traffic so the server kicks in safety measures and shuts down traffic. It's a really amateur tactic, but can be used as a means to prove a point, as most media services such like Xbox Live or Netflix cannot differentiate DDoS traffic from normal traffic and so cannot really defend against it.
Aside, this attack was supposedly perpetrated by a group called the Lizard Squad. However, this DDoS attack is rather unusual, because they had claimed about a month ago that they would take XBL and PSN offline permanently on Christmas Day. A DDoS attack is about the least permanent cyber-attack that can be done.

A group called The Finest Squad seems to be making an effort to expose Lizard Squaddies to the authorities, but it seems likely that the coinciding release of The Interview on XBL, PSN, YT, GP, etc. may be related to the current round of douchebaggery.

I tried logging on my dads xbox one kicked me out right away. I can play single player on my ps4 though even though it can't find ea servers or psn. Time for Microsoft and Sony to upgrade and stop this crap. I quit playing GTA v last year when they were hacking it with dsn servers to cheat. Now idiots are screwing up everyone's games. I wonder how many people will be returning ps4's and xbox ones tomorrow?

Nah, Lizard Squad announced they would do this over a month ago. North Korea supposedly hacked into Sony and publicized private information (the hacking was not supposed, but that North Korea perpetrated it was). and threatened everything up to actual terrorist attacks if The Interview was released.
While North Korea's dictator largely appears to be in a perpetual temper-tantrum, I certainly hope someone with a sane mind takes power their soon... The obviously legally insane Kim family will eventually do something incredibly stupid that may have catastrophic results.
Aside, the Lizard Squad has be accused of having ties to Middle Eastern terrorists, Chinese, and Russian government hackers. They have deliberately not denied any of it because it makes them seem more important than they are. They are a bunch of wannabe hackers living in the US and Canada, and very possibly could be taking credit for attacks which they did not even commit. They honestly seem like the type. They DDoS'd XBL and PSN, as they said, because it would be "funny". Obviously, anyone whom thinks that is funny is a little spoiled child that wants attention. If they do not get attention from this, they will move on.
And that is the last I will mention their name here.

You willing to put some money on that?
