I'm contemplating this. I've used Blackwall and Cass as my tanks in my 2 playthroughs so far, but I'd like to switch it up a bit and try out Bull. Haven't really used him in a party at all so far. I don't particularly want 2 warriors in a party, though, so I'm thinking I might try to sword and board with Bull and see how that goes. Anyone else tried this out yet?

Yep.

I play on hard and he was too squishy as 2hder for me (mostly because the AI is godawful at it). So I always have him as S&S works fine.

W&S is a better option than 2 handed this time around.

since my main is a supporting leader 2h bull is my main tank...it works fine...reaver just has only 3 skills that r really useful for a tank but you can spec more into vanguard and battlemaster (war horn is really good as tank as well as grapple and the stamina passive, weakening is nice too)

On my first playthrough, I wanted Bull in the party but grew sick of him dying.

Respecced him for Sword/Shield and never looked back. He can still does strong reaver damage, but can tank with the best of them.

Just don't unlock Dragon Rage. The computer cannot handle it.

Yes. And like Gaz83 said, basically, avoid reaver talents. You can get the passives if you like IMO but you're better off without them, focusing instead on pure tanking.

He works on nightmare just as well using reaver and SnS tree mix. Guard generation, shield wall and damage reduction passives are all you need to have an effective tank and those take 6 total skill points of investment.

Bull is fantastic with SnS. He especially looks great when he has a huge shield and mace/ax in the other hand. The AI just can't use two handed well enough to allow Bull to survive most fights. If I am controlling him he does fine, but as soon as I let the AI take over he drops pretty quick. Besides you see Bull training the Chargers with a shield and he talks about using the shield wall, so SnS works great for him.

I find Bull only a viable 2H reaver if your Inquisitor tanks. Usually in chaotic fights, I will press "H" run in first then order the Bull (and the rest) to come charging in.
