I am still trying to figure out all the details about crafting weapons and armor. One of the things I have just recently found somewhere, was an item that I guess "crits" your item when crafting it. It says that it will add a 30% chance to have all stats increase 10% on the item. So essentially, that means the Obsidian and Iron stats of strength and constitution have a chance of being greater than the default values shown?

Also, couldn't you simply just save before you craft it, and if it doesn't crit, reload and craft again, rinsing and repeating until you get that result?

Not that I can tell. It's random..but not at creation.

Unless I'm just totally off my rocker, Bioware did the insane thing and set the RNG at the point of the drop instead of the point of item creation, meaning that if it doesn't work, it will never work.

I've done a lot of testing on it, and I've had varying items at different levels (20%, 30%, 40%) never fire at all.

I did this as well.

Wow that is incredibly disappointing. So, when it drops it can already be at 0% even though it says 30?

That is my experience as well.

Yes. It apparently rolls for success when it drops... so what I did was this:

1. Save in front of the crafting station

2. Create an item with cheapest materials possible plus one "chance at mastercrafting" item.

3. If mastercrafting was successful, reload game and create the real item I wanted.

4. If mastercrafting was a failure, save game and go to 2.

Only way to get the items that the game has already flagged as useless out of your inventory.

I've saved before crafting a weapon. I've only used the chance of mastercrafting a couple times. I usually stick with others to use that I find more useful
