I hope ME 4's NPC's don't look ugly like in Dragon Age Inquisition

Cortez was a bro though I do wish he spoke of other things (not just of his husband all the time) but I still liked him

I'm pretty sure that Cortez doesn't really speak of his husband that often. There's the recording scene, the memorial wall, a brief mention at Docking Bay D24 and I'm pretty sure that's it. The rest of the time he talks about the mission and chats about drinking or argues about tanks with Vega.

Maybe you should go back and look at everyone in DA:O and DA2 because when I go back and look at them (thanks to people in one of the DA:I threads posting screenies from current playthroughs of DA:O and DA2) those characters look cruder and more artificial in comparison to the current characters.

As for who is complaining about the DA:I characters, it seems like an awful lot of it is coming from what appear to be guys who want every woman in a game to be a sex kitten (particularly their LIs). I like a certain amount of realism in my games with a fairly realistic representation of humanity. I have nothing against the idea of having a number of hot characters in a game (again, being a female here, I do like hot guys) - it's just that it seems a bit silly to try to demand/force the designers to make every single character in the game (LIs included) into supermodels because random guy x doesn't like seeing anyone who is less than a 10 in their game.

And frankly, someone like the OP who claims that all the companions are ugly is making a spurious claim, in my opinion (even taking into consideration subjective standards of beauty). Now as far as FF games go, there's obviously the anime aesthetic at work - which is perfectly fine, because (see my avatar) I like anime. I can appreciate that aesthetic when playing a more traditional JRPG (and I have played quite a few). However, it's clear that DA games and ME games are shooting for maximum realism - maximum realism, unfortunately, means that not everyone is pretty.

For my part, I don't think someone like Zaeed would have worked if he were prettified FF-style. He needed those scars and that messed-up face for me to believe that his character was a grizzled, dangerous mercenary who has been through a lot of s---. If Zaeed had been as handsome as Sephiroth, I don't think that I would have taken him terribly seriously in his role.

Wow wow wow, I personnaly never said that every character has to be a super top model, I m just saying I would like to have at least 1 sexy and good looking LI for heteros, and imo in DAI we have none. And if this LI can be a nice blonde woman that would be even better ^^

Nothing less nothing more, I m not speaking for everyone here.

And you re right for Zaeed. BTW I hate FF and Nomura, just saying.

Hell no, not twice, 3 or 4 time trust me. Good writing would be: first time you talk with him having an option to say "great, great man I like you you re a good guy but I m not gay so let's leave it here" and all the dialogues after that would be I don't know about his opinion on the Reapers, Earth, the Alliance or whatever else. But no !!! He keeps babbling about the fact he's gay and about his dead boyfriend lol :D

I like Cortez, he's a fine character but he's kinda forced on you.

Have you thought that talking to a character does not necessarily mean that you want to bang him? You talk to someone, he says he's gay and you then reply "sorry mate, I'm not interested"? Have you thought that when he talks about his husband he does not force "I'm gay" message down your throat? Would you have felt the same if he was straight and talked about his wife instead? He is only expressing interest in you when you go with all those "do it for me, Steve" options. Shepard is the initiator, not Cortez.

To tell you the truth no. If he was straight with a dead wife it would be different. I don't know why but for me it always sounds like a secret message, "my boyfriend is dead, you re hot Shep, please bang me and take his role", kind of ^^

Because of course if you re not a douche you will comfort him, and he will take this the wrong way.

Oh, now you're in for it.

I get it though, you're not utterly wrong but for me that aspect made his character all the more interesting.

I can summarize this entire topic in a few lines.

1)  I found the DA:I female companions to be ugly and would like some pretty ones

2)  Not everyone is pretty!  What's wrong with you, we need a mix!

3)  I found all the females to be ugly, so there was no mix

4)  You have bad taste!  You see too many pictures of photoshopped models!

So yeah, that's this entire topic.  Some straight male wants to look at pretty women, and a bunch of people whining about that for some strange reason.

Well, tbh, if you think that talking about a beloved person who just died is a secret sign of romantic interest, that's your problem, not bad writing or forcing agenda. There are cases of forcing writers' agenda on players in all three ME games - this is not the case.

I would only welcome a character like Cortez in ME:Next.

That's all I have to say on the matter.

In short, just another day on BSN, really nothing special or impressive, full of complainers and other BSN justice warriors (don't touch it it's my trademark) thinking they re smarter than you or above you.

Well as for me I said what I wanted, I don't see the point of trying to have a debate here because there is none. I just hope the ME team will bring us a nice chara design just like for ME2 and ME3.

Yeah maybe not bad writing, it's just a matter of opinion, for me he was forced, even if he's a good character, really I don't dislike him.

PS: tell me more about those cases ? What do you have in mind ?

This is quite off-topic, I don't want to discuss it here. Mostly the relations between synthetics and organics, special status of humanity and transhumanism.

I disagree about Cortez but I'm with you on the character design

Here's hoping they don't follow DA:I in that regard and instead the Trilogy

What? When have I ever said I was smarter than you? Please don't bring this kind of attitude it's really annoying.

Anyways, you're basically saying that when Steve mourns his husband, he's asking for you to ''bang him'' and take his husband's role. That's not true at all and it doesn't even make sense.

Let's say Steve was instead Steacy, a straight woman who lost her husband. How would you react to her mourning her husband? Would you also say that she's asking for you to have sex with her and to take her husband's place?

Bolded: I can tell you; because you're a homophobe.

That's how he felt ffs, it does not makes him a homophobe, if he went around like "OMG Steve sucks because he is gay I feel like he wants to rape me, I'm glad he can die in the game lol rofl" then maybe. I never felt like he was sending a message to maleshep (in the disco part, yes), but if he felt like that who the hell cares? It's his opinion dammit.

And why is it radical? Oh I see, because I respect his right of freedom of speech and don't go insulting a person i don't know then surely I must be an old school conservative or something like that who also hates progress and loves to oppress minorities. I see.

He said when a gay guy talked to him about how he was mourning his husband, it felt like he was making unwanted advances towards him. He even admitted that if the genders had been changed he probably wouldn't have felt that way. Exactly how is that not homophobia?

Oh but he is homophobic, he's apprehensive for fear, literally fear of being the subject of a homosexual fictional character's advances.

He's not violently homophobic though. So it's fine.

Plus, I understand the sentiment. I don't share it anymore, but I get it.

The crux of the matter has nothing to do with respecting freedom of speech or any of that humbug.

Because people always react and act the same way regardless of the person...

Well, I can't get into his head to see if he is really afraid of homosexuals, you'll have to ask him.

Personally, I really liked Cortez. He was like a bro for Maleshep (I think everyone was a bro for my Shep tbh), and other than that awkward scene in the disco ("I'm eye candy, too" :P [Spanish being my first language, I could not understand it nor find an equivalent Spanish phrase in my mental databses {Dulce de ojo? Dafuq is that?}. Being Paragon I chose it without knowing it locked his romance]) he was pretty well done, I never felt that he was trying to get Shepard into bed. As for Treynor, I really hated her initial conversation with you and EDI but she was pretty well done other than that. I was reeeeaaaaaally disliked Liara and how she was shoved down our throats constantly, it felt as if Bioware really wanted everyone to romance her.

Funnily, the first time I played, I thought Cortez was reacting to my reunion with (romanced) Jack. lol. His grieving scene coincides with the window you do Grissom. I can still head canon that way, I guess.. Like he's a little envious and bummed he doesn't have anyone. So I didn't perceive his behavior as a homosexual come on.

I don't like being a dick to him. Unless Jack died in ME2. Or I didn't romance anyone else. Then I'd play a Shep who's cold and emotionally distant as possible.. and he'd cut people like Cortez off.. tell them to toughen up (and get them killed in the process too).

Being mean is especially weak if you're a Liara and Garrus romancer... the most spoiled Sheps of the bunch. They don't know anything about wartime romance :P
