I'm sad and annoyed to see yet another thread devolve into this discussion, but that Youtube video was incredible. I'll definitely be sharing that. Interesting post, even if I hate that it had to happen here.

Just when I think I've found a nice discussion topic, I see that it's devolved into one of those racism/homophobia conversations.  Why is it so hard to just discuss looks?

When it comes to NPC's in Inquisition, most looked like models ripped straight from Origins and DA2, with better textures.  Most of the villagers you talked to looked ridiculously outdated.  I thought all of our companions looked fine, with the exception of Sera, who still looks like a neanderthal because of that huge brow of hers.  If you like Sera, I apologize, but I am only talking about my opinion of her looks.  Vivienne, Josephine, Leliana, and Cassandra looked fine.  Maybe Cassandra wasn't a supermodel, but she was pretty.  Aside from that, Iron Bull had a weird nose, Blackwall had an awful beard, and Dorian's mustache looked like he sharpied it on.

I think Mass Effect Next will have better looking NPC's primarily because it seems like they are starting from scratch, more or less.  Also, Mass Effect has always had the better graphics.  I don't mind if characters look more average -- there is beauty in imperfections -- but I hope to avoid overly attractive or hideous NPC's all the same.  We're supposed to be space adventurers!  The lip gloss can stay at home.

Unfortunately the lip gloss and form-fitted onesies will most likely return. Bioware seems to think we want "Space X-Men" instead of legitimate space explorers/marines/pirates.

I wish they'd take more inspiration from classic sci fi literature, and less from cheesy tv space opera.

I have no idea, I can't speak for all those. I can speak for heterosexual white males, to some extent, because I am one.

Thought I was black huh? Or maybe one of them awful ladies. Yuck.

Nobody assumed your race or gender, you dolt.

Your problem is: you're an idiot.... And believe yourself to be a genious.

What?? Nobody looks uglier then Miranda... Something is so off with her face, it's squished together and doesn't do her actor justice. In my opinion. Of course. The faces of Inquisition were far better proportioned.

I think you got distracted by Miranda and Isabela's ass OP. Nothing wrong with Samantha, that much is true.

Let me guess your a girl IRL and you re just jealous of Miranda because she's hot and attractive ? Let me tell you I know a lot of girls like that :P

I want more characters like Miranda in ME4, she's the perfect woman imo, no really I see enough ugly girls everyday in my college so when I play a game I want to dream, don't bring that sutpid reality in my game because it's a game it doesn't have to be that "realistic".

And I m not even talking about the ugly NPC villagers etc, it's not my problem if Gaider and Laidlaw are friends with Anita Sarkisian and they went with the "feminist route avoid at all cost putting appealing females", just don't bring that crap in my game.

At least CD Projekt understand that, and just for this reason I hope The Witcher 3 will sell well (Ciri, Yenefer or Triss are incredibly nice and I like that).

As for Josephine and Cassandra they are just average and I want more than average, Ashley or Miranda that's the way to go <3

Just to clarify DAI is amazing as a game, I really love it but on that topic (chara design) I wasn't happy at all because we can clearly see they are pushing an agenda and we all know which one. It's a game you are no politics or some kind of organization and you shouldn't do this as a game dev.

I have always been, and remain, baffled by this complaint. I really like the more realistic looking characters from DA:I, intentional flaws and all.

I kind of want "Space X-Men" actually. If everyone is so heavily armoured that they look like mechs, you lose some of the humanity of the characters. It's why it didn't feel like murder when you killed hundreds of Cerberus shock troopers.

Sadly this is what people are expecting when it comes to female companions.

Really? Why would I expect the females to look like the ones in the image?

I have nothing against all party members being super attractive. I don't have rock hard abs but I don't want to see a bunch of slobs with beer bellies saving the galaxy just because it would make them more like me. It just makes me think I should get off my arse and back down the gym... until I think nah and pick up a controller and a big mac.

But... what agenda do you think they're pushing? I've heard Bioware be accused of so many.

No you like beautiful women, and it seems that is crazy today in our world for some people, to be normal you should only like ugly and average chicks :P

Lol, yeah kind of, anyways I m a guy I m not gay but I don't mind seeing good looking guys in my games like James, Kaidan or Jacob (well he's a terrible character but that's the writing not his chara design), so it's not just about top model hot females. I just want some very good looking characters in my game, don't try to bring the "realistic stuff" in the game I have enough of this reality in my life everyday.

When you watch a hollywood movie all the actors are nice and hot, guys, females etc, and it's normal because we all like it, people are not saying "hey guys let's get rid of Kristen Stewart and Brad Pitt and replace them by some ugly or average actors because it feels more realistic", why it should be different for videogames ?

As for the agenda, I don't know, the Anita Sarkisian one, the sexist one, the Gaider one because he has clearly a problem with this subject when you talk about hot/good looking females, sex, romances (dwarf romances hello) etc.

But hey whatever, Gaider isn't working for the ME team and I hope he will stay away from it, I m sure Yannick and the Montreal team won't disappoint us, ME1, 2, 3 were great on that aspect. I m only affraid about Ann Lemay because she's a girl and she could have the same opinion as Gaider, but from what I saw in Omega she can write some good and intersting stuff with pretty cool females (I really like Aria and Nayreen) so it will be ok I think, let her write some hot males for her own pleasure and hot females for us guys everyone will be happy :P

BTW changing Ashley's design in ME3 was a great decision, just saying, even Liara looks better in ME3, Jack too.

nobody in ME1 was so heavily armored that they looked like mechs. They simply wore light/medium/heavy armor types. Unlike the impractical sequels where certain squadmates wear leotards into battle. It's ridiculous.

It's a game and it's science fiction, why it is ridiculous ?

The game establishes the lore surrounding kinetic barriers, ablative armors and all the tech embedded in those hardsuits. Then, Miranda enters battle in a catsuit and O2 mask, Jack is virtually naked, etc... This doesn't even change in toxic and hazardous environments. It defies both lore and our ingrained, reflexive common sense. It breaks verisimilitude.

I really hope all of the characters are believably clothed in future games.

if you don't recognize the aesthetic difference (character-wise) between the original Mass Effect and the comic book influence the sequels took on, Idk how else to explain it to you.

Yeah, it's sci fi (actually it's full blown space opera). Nonetheless, plenty of science fiction has practical ideas and concepts. Much of sci fi has a foundation in practicality. The original has some in terms of what people wear into battle. The sequels threw it completely out the airlock. Having a gunfight in your pajamas is ridiculous. People wearing nothing but an oxygen mask over their nose and mouth in the vacuum of space or a toxic environment is ridiculous.

I'd prefer a more believable approach, rather than the sexualization the sequels applied.

It's her style. BTW they are biotics (Miranda, Jack or even Samara) so they can probably defend themselves and their skin with their biotic shield, just like they did during the suicid mission.

How many times did they use a biotic shield in the game besides the suicide mission?

Why can't males and females wear the armour suitable for the situation and combat and then dress down and wear something sexy or plain casual on the ship or out at a club/bar or cutscene? That would be believable and satisfy both sides, right? In fact I think they may do something like this if what I read in the known features thread is true...

Maybe they use it everytime but you just don't see it. That's why biotics have light armors because they don't need so much protection.

Yeah, I thought they looked plenty attractive. This complaint isn't uncommon, though. I hope they stick with this little venture into realism. Everyone being incredibly good looking is just one more thing that subtly strains verisimilitude.

Sorry but she's average, not sexy at all. And considering the amount of topics on that subject here and on the internet I think a lot of people are thinking the same way. Just go on gamefaqs and there are like 20 topics about how females in DAI are not attractive.

Never happend back then when ME3 or DA2 were released, so we can assume it's a problem for many people...
