I hope ME 4's NPC's don't look ugly like in Dragon Age Inquisition

Other than Mother Goose, I didn't really have much of a problem with NPC faces in general in this game. The most jarring NPC in the entire series has to be Orana. I guess they were going for that gaunt malnutrition look, but still.

I like Cassandra (note not played DA:2). I think she actually looks quite realistic for what she is supposed to be.

The same for Sera

I prefer this look over ME3 anyway, which seem to be too perfect to be real:

Again the realistic argument...these are games people, there is no need to be "realistic"
Especially Sera in this pic just looks ugly but to each their own

I do prefer ME1's Ashley though

I thought all the main characters in DA:I Looked fine. Sera and Cassandra looked intentionally less-than-ideal on purpose, and I have to admit, I kind of liked that. In movies you have to deal wth a lot of really great actors who don't look like they belong on the front page of a fashion magazine, and that's totally fine and realistic.

I love Witcher 3's rather sexy cast of good looking women and male hunks but I find myself admiring DA:I's approach and I felt it was rather brave too and not in an SJW way. (believe me, there's plenty of SJW in DA:I but I don't think it goes for the character designs as much).

When it comes to all the "whatever" NPCs though, Bioware will never learn how to make them look right. I can't believe they actually had someone design the face of Mother Giselle and say "this looks like a real human being". I could live with it for Mass Effect 1 and 2 because those games didn't look completely realistic, but with the bump up in graphical fidelity and approach to realism with ME3 and now also DA:I it becomes more and more jarring how terrible the side-NPCs look.

Her mouth is potruded too far, her eyes... I don't know. She looks like someone who has some kind of disability and that goes for too many of these cheaply made NPCs that don't have face-scan.

tumblr_nhq1rd205B1qcethyo1_500.jpg

This guy too. They just don't look natural one bit. This wouldn't be a problem if it didn't stick out like a sore thumb next to the ones that do look somewhat real like:

CullenDAIFace.jpg17dd4daedca3b550c16d00cb390edb7a.jpg

(sorry for the annoying filter)

Perhaps it's about time Bioware spend some money on face-scans for side-NPCs and then you'll have to deal with seeing the same faces a couple of times when you're walking around on some space-station. It would be better than this IMO. If GTA, RDR and The Witcher can do this, these guys can too. Just make sure the player gets a customizeable face mesh though :D

PS. I have no idea about developer-economy and how expensive modeling for face-scan, or face-scan models are.

Ehhh, not everyone can be beautiful though.   There are plenty of people that look like the first two.  Not so many people who look like the last two.

I think that's what they are trying to portray.  And plus, 'cause no one would wanna sleep with them if they looked like Sloth from The Goonies.

I can totally understand wanting characters that you, personally, find attractive in the game.

Two things, though:

1.)  "Attractive" is subjective (forget this nonsense of the objectivity of aesthetics because that's not the same as 'attractiveness'), so there's no way for them to meet this request for everyone.

2.)  It's quite silly to expect every character to be physically attractive.  I fully support the idea of having a variety of looks for the prominent characters.  Some should be gorgeous; others shouldn't be.  That's what I'm hoping to see.

I think DA: I did it just fine.  In my opinion, Morrigan, Leliana, Cassandra, Josephine, and Vivienne are all attractive women.  If a woman looked like them in real-life, she's be considered attractive by most people.  Same for many of the guys.  Some of the guys/gals were less attractive.  That's how it works and I'm fine with that.

Plus, let's not forget that looks aren't everything.  My dwarfXBull romance was one of my favorite playthroughs despite my not finding Bull's face to be terribly attractive.  But there's more to the story than just that.  At least, that's my opinion on it.

Agreed@ Op

95% of the female characters in Dragon Age Inqusition were imo either unattractive or ugly. Hopefully they don't copy Dragon Age Inqusition in this regard (or any other, there is nothing worth to be copied from this game)

Not trying to come off as a troll or a 'boobs and buns' gamer

after seeing characters like Tali

the Banshees are pretty hot once you throw a paper bag over their face.

y'know, as if the all caps didn't make it obvious enough.

How did this get 8 pages again, people?

So Mass Effect is realistic now?

Its always the same with Entertainment in general, Most movies/tv shows etc. also have only attractive looking actors

If it were all according to real life most would look average at best

Don't get me wrong I don't want Anime-type of fanservice (which is just ridiculous) here but a bit of sexiness doesn't hurt
DA:O was better in this regard (Leliana and Morrigan for men mostly and Alistair for women)
DA:I Cassandra (DA2 one was much better) is just not very attractive (in my opinion) and the same with Josephine

I keep seeing people say this, and I don't get it. She doesn't look much different.

I didn't like my romance options in DA : Inquisition. I had to choose between a tomboy and a librarian... meh...

She retains the characteristics but c'mon:

That bulky jaw wasn't one of her features in DA2.

There is something about this face that makes me unbelievably aggressive every time I see it. It just looks so wrong. I don't know why. I need to go smash something.

And yes we need better faces for minor npcs. I tired of inky's clone army rather quickly.

If you say so, but it's impossible to compare at those two angles.

Damm that (manly) jaw
Why Bioware? Why?

How anybody came up with a jaw being manly or unmanly is forever an enigma to me.

Do you consider Olivia Wilde manly?

If so, I simply don't understand you.

^ Yeah but Olivia Wilde is hot (even with the jaw) so I'm not sure what you are trying to do here

Cassandra is just nothing in comparison

She looks more like a seeker in DAI than she does in DA2, in my opinion.
I can take her much more seriously as a hardened warrior looking like that than in DA2.

No as a romance option that's interesting. If you only like her for her looks then yes it's an issue, but if it is her personality as well then who cares if she isn't a picture perfect specimen? It's not like she is unattractive is it?

Indeed.  But, boy, this whole jaw thing and the "discussions" it's sparked over femininity have certainly been interesting.

Sadly this is what people are expecting when it comes to female companions.

Female characters from The Witcher 3 are a good example of attractive and realistic women.

Meh, no character, no flair.

Same face, same body.  Different hair color.

I'm not trying to say that the characters in DA:I had character.  Hell, the only person I thought that had character was Serah...   And that's 'cause she caused hell and ruckus throughout.  But what I am trying to say is that each character looked different.   Now, I dunno if each woman in TW3 looked the same, but based on the pictures that're shown above, I'm not holding out much hope.

EDIT :  I mean, sure...  They're attractive.   But like I said in a previous post, everyone's not attractive.

I think they look rather boring compared to the women in DA:I. Flawless faces and skin, modern day make-up, nothing that I don't see in any other magazine, TV show, etc.

So they look boring because the are actually beautiful lol some people here

Thankfully ME also had attractive characters so far so I really hope they don't join the ugly like the other team did with DA I

So sadly for you they will also be boring

The women in TW3 are attractive AND have character with DA I apparently its only possible to have one of those
