So this is my first playthrough and I am really enjoying it so far. Directly to my problem:

 

I saw a playthrough by jesse cox and noticed where he gets the grey warden, Blackwall and the other companion "Iron Bull". I'm playing on normal difficulty with the standard storyline as I haven't played one of the previous games. But now the quest "The Lone Warden" hasn't triggered in my journal and I can't recruit those guys. Is this meant to be that way or is something wrong with my game? Thank you for your help in advance.

to acquire some of the companions you need to use the Operations on the War Table. Also, to get their personal quest I believe each one has 3-4 requires certain levels of approval with them. First quest you just need to recruit them. Sadly there is no actual way in game to monitor your approval level on a certain character. Just try to do what you think those characters would like whether it be actions or what you say to them. With Ironbull do not do the it will be ok or I am sorry he likes tough love and fighting (especially Dragons)
