Hey Guys,

I'm playing one hand weapon + shield and I'd like to know the most effective way

to use the skill "Shield Wall"

(Please refrain from answering "The best way to use it is to not use it at all" :P )

My problems at the moment with this skill is that:

1.) Sometimes I'm locked into this skill and don't know how to deactivate it.

This usually happens when I'm very low on stamina.

When I have enough stamina I can deactivate it by "activating" it again.

2.) How do I align the direction of my character once Shield Wall has been activated?

Sometimes it seems to be impossible to have my character turn into a different direction.

Then the enemy just goes to the side or back of my character and attacks while I cannot turn

my character around when Shield Wall is active

3.) Are there other viable skills that work good or best in combination with Shield Wall?

Thanks in advance :)

1) Just attack, it auto drops shield wall. Or jump, but in combat that isn't a wise idea.

2) If you are target locked, you will auto face a certain target, which is what you are experiencing, remove the lock and you will have regular movement based on where the camera is pointed.

3) Shield wall is pretty awesome on it's own, it's only real downfall is mobility, so I find charging bull and combat roll can help me reposition to make most effective use of it.

Hmm, I'm very slowly getting the knack of it. Sometimes it still locks though and I cannot move nor deactivate it.

How do I target lock and target unlock? And in which camera mode do I lock/unlock targets?

By the way similar problem with Charging Bull. Sometimes I can stop it, but sometimes

I'm unable to deactivate it and my character runs far far faaaar away only to be teleported back to the party after some time.

And yet sometimes I can stop it by just "activating" it again (while it's active) and then my char stops running :/

I don't see what I'm doing wrong yet...

Thanks for your answer so far

Right clicking or tabbing(keyboard) pushing in the movement stick(controller) an enemy makes it locked, the target icon becomes bright yellow rather than the dull target whatever is closest.

That is only in regular view, I haven't really used or tried to move with shield wall in tactical cam.

The teleport back with charging bull was probably from falling off a cliff, like shield wall just tap your regular attack to drop out of it. They tend to lock in when you have low stamina, around 25%, so the toggle doesn't work. Attack still does though.

I've had a similar problem with charging bull myself. It seems to deactivate more reliably if I am hovering the cursor over the character as I press the button, though this may just be my imagination. I tend to give the cancel command and then forward time a couple of frames just to make sure the power icon is blacked out. Can I also recommend that you set shield wall as a preferred ability in your tactics as, much like block and slash and roll, the ai actually tends to handle the timing really well.

Hah I got the knack of it! It seemed I used the wrong keys :D

(Playing with keyboard + mouse here. Takes a while to get used to it )

Now Shield Wall is fun. I taunt enemies then I use Shield Wall and just turn into the direction of the enemy that strikes next.

Like this you can block the attacks of 2-3 enemies one after another and you generate guard while doing it.

And during this the other party members attack the enemies :D

I still have trouble stopping Charging Bull at will though...

It should stop immediately as you deactivate it though. I don't remember having much problems deactivating it, just do it a bit earlier than you want because after all one does not just stop after a charge like that :D

Just activate an ability to stop charging bull when it bugs out and doesn't let you stop. As long as you have the upgrade, gore and trample, it shouldn't really have an effect on your stamina and doesn't make you run off into the distance like a shield carrying Usain Bolt.

Also remember that Shield Wall deflects everything from bolts of lightning and claw swipes from dragons, to plasma bolts from wraiths. It's easily the best ability a S&S warrior has, just because of how useful it is.

I bound Shield Wall to a higher number key and then bound that key to "E."  From there I use it like any reactive block skill in other games, just timing it for when an attack is coming in, and then immediately going back to hitting the R key for auto attack to cancel the block.   You can use this to block dragon's breath and bolt attacks, mage spells, archer arrows, giant attacks, and even (especially) shield templar/chevalier attacks, the ones that normally knock you over, when you get a block on them it dazes them allowing you to follow up with shield bash or payback strike to knock them down.

They shouldn't have called it Shield Wall, IMO, I think that leads to confusion over how it should be used, it's more Accurately "Shield Block."

1. just attack, or jump. Charging bull can be stopped by jumping too.

2. Lock on to an enemy and move your character. it will automatically face the locked one.

3. Shield Bash. Try blocking an enemy (with shield) attack, they will be stunned and you can combo it using shield bash.

For number 2, is this still true for tactical view?

I love shield wall, but I constantly have to micromanage Cassandra back to facing the person I want her to block. I just want to target someone, put up shield wall and leave her to face them. But it doesn't seem to work that way.

The ai is really good at using shield wall on its own, so maybe its better not to micromanage it.

What happens is, in tactical view, the enemy hits her shield wall a couple of times and then goes around the side of her but she doesn't turn to face the enemy. I either have to pop into over the shoulder view and turn her to face the enemy or make her run away a few steps with right click on the ground and back to the enemy.

Is that not everyone's experience? I love shield wall, but this aspect is annoying. I don't see why she can't just pivot to block the same one enemy.
