Having to RUN everywhere when having the audacity to play a 'PC Game Made By PC Gamers' with a mouse and keyboard. Shame on me! I punished myself by not playing the game for over a month. (And no, I am not going to use cheat engine to fix my $70.00 pre-order game).

I've gotten used to the combat controls. Not happy with them but now that I'm used to them ... I have to say I find the lack of auto attack very frustrating but I could live without it if my melee character would actively chase after an enemy instead of standing there swinging their blade like an idiot when I have one targeted (it's not such a problem with ranged characters at least). I also am not a fan of having to stand right on top of something to loot it, instead of clicking on it and running over to it.

Timed quest elements. Yes, I'm looking at you Champions of the Just and Wicked Eyes, Wicked Hearts. While it's totally doable, it's not a fun mechanic. Don't tell me to explore and then keep pushing me to go back to the other area with a weird mechanic just to rush me and convey a sense of urgency.

In one word: Combat.

Iit is too arcade oriented, you have to move your character to avoid being hit, there is no real defense roll to see whether or not someone misses.  The tactical camera is useless and the tactical options are extremely limited, not to mention the AI does not do what it is told some of the time.  Basically it is an hack and slash game more than a real rpg.  (Real meaning using defense rolls, attack rolls  and other statistics in combination with random number generators. rather than just collision detection)

Of course in order to use abilities tactically you have to actually have those abilities.  Unfortunately too many of these abilies have been removed, like the sustainable modes of rock armor, flame weapons, etc.  Also all of the buffs and glyphs are basically gone, and those are just the mage ones.  I could make a long list of abilities/spells that are missing, but it would take too much time.  So the combat has a trickle down effect to the abilities as well.

Not just the abilities, but also the attributes, and the inability to assign them.  Which of course leads to crafting, which basically allows you to assign attribute bonuses to armor in lieu of levelling up the character.  And of course if it effects the crafting, it will effect the gear in general.

Basically all of them are interconnected and combine to a very dumbed down arcade like experience that I fnd very difficult to accept let alone enjoy.

The game's crashed three times in a row in the War Room after completing Champions of the Just.  It wouldn't be so irritating if I didn't have to fight Envy again... and again (since I can't save after that fight).  I don't know why it's crashing so often during cutscenes, but it's driving me nuts.  I just want to complete that quest but I can't.

Daft AI.

Not being able to change inventory if you have enemies with differing resistances in one battle.

Of course, this is expecially true for mages. Also, why are there only three types of damage staffs can do? Origins had spirit damage staffs, nature damage and even physical damage staffs. But there are enemies that are weak to nature or spirit damage.

1. The combat system (on PC it' worse).

2. The 8 bar slot limit.

3. The loot system (which is terrible).

4. The [too) many fedex/fetch quests that lead to - well, nothing. Expect wasting time. I hate the fact that this game plays like a single player MMO.

4. And last but not least - the look of my gear. Why does my armor all look the same. It's bascially 3 models - light looks like heavy - etc. Armor in this game looks like ****. Why can't I wear the armor the NPC"s are wearing? It looks beter.

The nughumping console being tied to the ~key. Rather frustrating having to shut down the nughumping game while in a MP dungeon or SP quest

If I overlook the bugs...I'd say it's the combat system.

Not one part of it.  The entire system is just broken.  AI, all of it, for combat is terrible.  Companion AI, specifically, breaks immersion for me.  There's a bridge, for example, in Emprise, that I have to manually guide my characters across or they'll just stand at one side.

Watching my companions fight is just...horrible to see.  Why would Sera EVER approach an enemy?  Well, I can tell you.  Because Cass was suffering some health loss.  I heard my Inky yell "Cassandra needs help!" and Sera just runs over, like she's going to do BETTER than Cass.  So, instead of simply healing my warrior, as was intended, I had to revive someone AND heal my warrior.

Tac cam is a terrible abomination.  I suppose it would be too difficult to make the trees fade (like in Origins)...it's one thing IMO, to have all this art in the game, but maybe making it unignorable was a bad idea.  It's really only "breathtaking" a few times.  Then it's just a bunch of trees that prevent me from seeing anything from the tac cam.

If the combat, for me, had been better, I could make this game last, but the combat is so broken that it makes me groan when I think of doing another playthrough.

Two words:  Banter bug.

I go for hours not hearing my companions.  It gets lonely

Honorable mention goes to eight ability limit.  Eventually levels just stop meaning anything because for every power you learn, you gotta bash yourself on the head with a brick until you forget how to use another.

That is A LOT of complains about important, if not even vital, aspects of the game for a "game of the year".

I wonder if EA will buy "game of the year" for next EAWare game too. After a time it might get a bit expensive once EAWare will spit out DAs and MEs every year with "improved graphics and systems" as well as reused stories... oh wait, EAWare already reuses the same story formula over and over again.

The thing is:  for me, these things are the difference between "good" and "Excellent".

Again, excluding the bugs.  If you include the bugs/technical failures (ie:  PS3 and 360 issues) then it's a terrible black eye on Bioware.

I don't think EA "bought" GOTY.  A lot of people like this game and are enjoying it.  THAT's why it's GOTY.  They might not be "hardcore" Bioware fans, but, in all fairness, Bio fans are incredibly fickle.  Trying to appease them is like trying to nail Jell-o to a tree.

Just my opinion, though...no need to go spreading it around, or anything.

It was awarded GOTY, seemingly within hours of its release, before people even had a chance to play through it.  The ones that voted are the critics, that supposedly played it in the weeks leading up to the release.  Not saying that EA outright bribes critics for their votes.  But, they indirectly help to pay for their salaries, based on advertising in the magazines/websites where they work.  The chance of losing that revenue cannot be dismissed as a factor.

And sure DAI had a lot of sales on opening day.  But that was based on the expectations of many, that the game would look more like DAO, than what it actually is.  Bioware itself raised those expectations, it was not just wishful thinking by the customers.  So all those pre-orders, and opening day sales are not so much a reflection of the game DAI is, but of Bioware's past, especially with DAO.  All of those early sales also influenced GOTY.

In a way they have a repeat of ME3 on their hands. They said this and that and only partially delivered or didn't deliver at all.

DA:I is not I repeat NOT GOTY Material.

More on topic the things that annoy me the most about DAI.

Lack of romance options. side missions that have little to no relevance to the games main story/plot, The nutcracker outfit, DA:I MP is basically just ME3 MP v2.0, and last but most certainly not least Denuvo yes Denuvo. Even on my computer which isn't bad Denuvo cuts into the games performance.

Two items of note:

1) Bug that causes dialog to be all jumbled up. I believe this is a 360 thing. I've got the captions on, so I can read what is supposed to be said, but what I hear through the audio plays the words in a sentence out of order or some on top of other words, or possibly in another language - I can't really tell. All I know is that it is seriously jumbled up. This only happens occasionally, and I can't figure out the pattern to be able to anticipate when it will occur. I bring it up here in the hopes that this is a bug that can be fixed. Not a huge deal, but a little annoying.

2) The mapping is not as thorough as I would like. Sometimes you show layers - pretty much only in buildings - but most do not. So, do I need to go UP or DOWN to find what is showing up on my map? Some cliffs you can climb. Some you cannot. Trying to figure out how to get around the cliff walls to get to that friggin' shard - HOURS SPENT USELESSLY!!! And no outside borders on maps to help you figure out if you've explored everything or not. The mapping could use improvement in the next game.

That being said, I have thoroughly enjoyed playing this game. Thank you for all the hours putting it together for us. Thank you for making at least one of the romance options truly romantic, and for finally letting there be an option for Cullen to find some happiness. (Man that guy's been through a lot!)
And for making there be so much speculation about what's going on and what's next. I have so many theories!!!

The lack of communication on their own forums has now gone from annoying, to pathetic, to unacceptable. It is impossibly sad when considering that just a few seemingly little fixes here and there would make DA:I a completely different experience.  This was supposed to be 'THE' game for me this winter but now it has turned into 'THAT' game which I utterly regret pre-purchasing.

I guess posting in their own forums isn't hip enough for them, but of course they're not saying anything worth mentioning on Twitter or Facebook either. They could at least tell us how much longer it will be before DA:I comes out of Early Access.  The beta is great so far and I'm sure the full release will have the bugs ironed out.

Am I right?

This. I'm also on the 360, and it seems to crop up randomly; not a huge deal when it's ambient banter, but I haven't been playing with subtitles so it's very frustrating when it crops up during a lengthy conversation with another character. I had to reload the one of the final story missions because Morrigan's expository lines were overlapping. It usually doesn't happen again in the same place.

The Dispel targeting area is also very frustrating. I don't know if it's just an issue with the 360 or my console, but the target area is almost impossible to see under most lighting and terrain conditions. I can make a guess about where to put it when using the tactical cam, but free targeting with it is impossible because the light blue ring barely shows up. Would it be possible to change the target graphic associated with this spell? A clear, solid glyph like with Barrier would be nice, but even the solid red ring that appeared when I passed outside the valid target area would have been a better choice.

You can not, can NOT, have Alistair and Morrigan in the same castle and have them not talk to each other or acknowledge each other AT ALL. I mean, seriously? Who thought this was OK?

"You know Alistair and Morrigan? Those two classic and iconic characters from Origins who had the most hilarious, comical, and complex relationship? What if, ten years after their journeys together, they run into each other in Skyhold! AND THEN DIDN'T INTERACT AT ALL!! WOOOO!!!!"

Alright, here is my 'rant'.

The first thing that comes to mind is the lack (or rather absence) of any and all tactical possibility's in the game. They claimed that a more tactical approach would be required for battles at higher difficulty's. And what did they do?? removed the tactical settings for the AI(that abomination they cal tactical menu or whatever, is NOT worth the name). Also the AI is not smart to put it mildly. When you have that in combination with the restriction of only 8 slots for the PC (which i use), then it is simply a dumb move by the design department.(note to BioWare) Do not claim to make a game which requires a tactical approach, and take out all the things that did make that possible. Sorry BioWare, I was a huge fan, now I will certainly follow any new game/DLC you'r going to make, but not even consider buying on release. I will wait out the user reviews, and never ever in the near/far future buy a game on good faith again.

And did I mention that the MP connection and getting in to a match is just not there? 10+ try's, 2 decent games and the rest stuck in loading screen for 10!!! minutes so I eventually did the Ctrl-Alt-Del trick to get out of it, and getting disconnected with the other try's. To bad, the 2 games i did manage to squeeze out of all the attempts were lots of fun despite the fact we did die horribly half way through :)

sorry, there were 2 frustrating aspects sneaked into this post, just couldn't leave the MP out of it.

I do enjoy the rest of the game though. I don't play it that often anymore however, because of reasons mentioned above.

In honor of Festivus, I wish to air my grievance with Dragon Age: Inquisition.

The single most frustrating part of this game for me is -- THE SPECIALIZATION QUESTS!

I have just roamed the Exalted Plains for literally HOURS searching for a Champion to challenge. Finally found him but.

This was NOT FUN. This was frustrating, boring, annoying, and every other negative gerund you can think to attach. Who thought it would be fun to have us roam around the entire world of Thedas with no quest marker, no indication of where to find the idiots you're supposed to conquer, best, destroy, eliminate, etc.?

Even if you have the Game Guide - the teeny-tiny, unmarked maps with their fuzzy graphics and muddy colors, are almost useless.

This was obviously not a glitch, but for me it is the single most disappointing part of this game. AT THE VERY LEAST - Please give us quest markers.

Guys, next time, think of something else that might actually be fun to do.

I had a similar experience with the assassin specialization. It took me HOURS to find the assassins to fight and take their token. It had the potential to be fun, but now I would very much prefer just selecting a specialization after leveling up.

These have probably all been mentioned, but:

1) LEGO hair. The styles are rigid and the colours look like the result of too much product.

2) Bad world design/collision detection/movement control combination. I admire that most of the objects in the game are mapped and can be collided with, I really do. It's just that this sort of world would have worked really well in a more free-flowing action game with a more loose subscription to the laws of physics, and we're stuck with a character who basically controls like a chess piece instead. Also, having each weapon with its own collision detection is cool, but that tends to work better if you have some control over your attack direction, rather than a single default combo.

3) Bugged abilities. I'm someone who notices these things, like when by big bad 2H detonator combo doesn't actually deal any extra damage. What makes this particularly bad is that it's the sort of thing that should have easily been picked up in beta. What makes that even worse is that we've had two patches and still no fix.

Female character in Val Royeaux getting ready for a masquerade ball...no gowns? no mask? NO SHOES???

why does my straight female character have to chase after any of these male romance options???

Why can't the straight male characters flirt? I love Dorian's flirtatious banter and i hate having to be a mommy character to the available options ..

Oohhh cullen(lyrium addict), bull (drunken fighter) blackwall(murderous liar), solas(spoiler) it's ok, it's not your fault, does it hurt, are you alright..does hims need a boo-boo bandaid??

Where is the charming intelligent romantic male character that will sweep my female inquisitor off her feet

I mean even if Zeveran was a bit annoying at least he made the effort.

oh a few more ferelden locks lying around wouldn't hurt either

I really don't get wtf they were thinking with the masquerade ball outfit. Fine, fine, you're military, you want to look like military. ****** on that. At least give us the option to get decked out for it, and be creative with the option! We have the best of the best working for the inquisition, people who think outside of the box, and not *one* of them could come up with an idea to make a dressy outfit that's little more than armor in disguise?? The situation in Val Royeaux was begging for that! For the men (or women, who don't like dresses), a coat made out of dragon scales, dressed up with obsidian or onyx in just the right places so that it appears to be a dressy outfit but is tough enough to face a dragon? Or, make the coat removable over armor that appears to be dress pants and shirts. For women who want to wear dresses, a removable skirt (or hell, make it of dragon scale and one of the tier 3 cloths and leave it on!) with a kickass corset that is nearly impenetrable by magic or blade. They could've made it a quest to gather the materials after they mention the damned ball the first time! Could've been awesome. Instead, we look like a bunch of borg, wearing the same stupid (and ugly) outfit. And don't get me started about the PJs for the stronghold...

I agree about the romance options for straight females. I actually love the Cullen romance, despite the annoying lyrium crap, and like the little flashes of...spine...he shows, but it'd be nice to have at least one romance that attempts to pursue the female PC instead of always being forced to chase them incessantly until they give in to your persistence. Even with Alistair, in DA:O, he made a move if you waited long enough, and I think that was before I turned him into a hardass! For the others, I'll probably romance IB at some point, but I don't want the depresso-fest of Solas and, for some reason, I not only find Blackwall physically repulsive (it looks like he'd have bugs growing in that nasty beard), but I can't stand anything else about him either. His personality grates on me.

The Ferelden locks are pissing me off. So is the malachite, that I always accidentally sell because I forget you need them later. I hate the requisition quests. I wish you could say "send your requests to Commander Cullen" and the damned exclamation point would go away and leave you alone.

Edited to add:  Seriously? You can saying "pissing" but you can't say p i s s?? WTF?
