I'm roughly 15 hours into my 2nd playthrough and I want to change my starter class since I messed up my build. I've heard you can remap your starting race/class with the NWN2 character editor but I have no idea how to do it and google gives me nothing. Can anyone help me out?
Does anyone know how to change your starter class using the character editor?

I think you need to download character editor, but other than that, I don't know. I never used that.

- What do you have now?
- What do want to change it to i.e. what are you trying to achieve?
- Where are you in the plot?
- How far back do your saves go?

I already have the character editor but I have no idea how to use the remap feature.

My character is 1 rogue 8 sorcerer right now with rogue being the starting class. I'd like to use the character editor to change my starting class from rogue to sorcerer so I don't miss out on the caster level. I'm at neverwinter right now in the plot but this my 2nd time rerolling and I would hate to reroll again.
My saves go back all the way to the starting area.

a less user-friendly but far more powerful way of doing this is to use TlkEdit2 and edit your savegame's .IFO file
there's an entry called "ClassList"
after making a backup
select and cut Class[0], then select ClassList and paste to index [1]
the two classes of that character ought become switched after saving.
[edit] but that may well be only the first step of multiple to accomplish what you're after ... on the good side, all the info of that character is stored in that IFO file.

Thanks for the reply! I'm trying to use the tool now but I'm getting something different. Here's the steps I took.
1. Selected Class from the [0] Folder and cut.
2. Selected the [1] folder then pasted.
I end up removing the rogue as the starter class but instead it got replaced with Barbarian.

don't select-to-paste in the [1] folder. Select ClassList itself to paste into
the only reason i said "paste to index [1]" is because when i pasted here, to ClassList, a query popped up asking what index to paste to (and it defaulted to 1 ) /shrug

or do you mean something different?

I did that as well and still ended up with Barbarian as my starter class.

note i just switched a 10Rogue/1Shadowdancer to 1Shadowdancer/10Rogue.
to debug: look at the structure of your backup IFO. under ClassList
There can be up to four top-level entries there [0]..[3] which define the ability to choose four classes max. [0] is first class, etc.
beneath those, the entry "ClassLevel" is what it sounds like. What seems to be happening on your end is the entry "Class" is somehow getting switched to a "0" == Barbarian. ( ie, 0 is the entry for Barbarian in Classes.2da ) btw, Don't confuse that with the top-level entry [0]
What this tells me is that your paste isn't 'taking' properly. TlkEdit2 can be a little erh, odd. I suspect that there is no [0] entry under ClassList after you made the changes, and when the game searches for one (it always needs a [0] entry...) it simply defaults to Barbarian,
that is, all the ducks have to be lined up.

I ended up getting it by pasting my class from [1] to [0] then using the character editor to reset my character to lvl 1 so the game doesnt crash when I load. Thanks a lot for the help, I really appreciate it.

The next thing to do would have been to check how many XP you needed to make Sorcerer 9. If you were getting close you could just give yourself the few points you needed to level up and not worry about changing the underlying character. IIRC you are about to fight a bunch of undead and rescue Lord Nasher?

You should have much more experience by then.
