Just a sample after you sleep with Cullen:

Leliana: Commander, one of the couriers may have an emotional scar for the rest of their life.

Cullen: What do you mean?

Leliana: Oh let’s just say that I know you were having a bit of fun last night.

Commander: What!

Leliana: I think it’s adorable.

Cullen: Maker’s Breath!

Leliana: (Laughs)

HAHA! That would have been priceless, I like your idea :D

I very much agree with you about the little things. Flowers or a love note are very much in-character for Cullen (IMO).

I love the romances in this game... Or at least, I loved romancing Josephine. The flirting ranged from funny, to cute, to a little awkward. I was honestly a little happy it didn't have a really awkward sex scene, the scenes it did have were so sweet and touching. Plan on romancing Sera in my next game, then Solas, then Cullen.

This is the best for DA romances. It was the first to not be stupendously juvenile. At least you dont have to agree with everything they say. My wife and I respectfully disagree quite often, I could only imagine how that would work out in past DA romances, she would leave my party :( . Dont get me wrong, they are still stupid, but an effort was made to make them feel more organic.

This morning I loaded up three different saves in my Cullen game trying to get the Mrs. Rutherford line to trigger again because it DID happen.  I was not able to get Varric to say it again.

I can't swear 100% it's the patch, but that's the only thing that changed.  If I have time tonight I'll load a super-early save and work through some content and see if it pops up.

Yes it would be awesome to be able to confirm this!

Um Companions do that still. Not to mention some oft he banter is really good.

Only in banter and that's something I've had to listen to on YouTube since I very rarely get it to trigger. In DA2 (and with Wynne in DA:O) companions had actual conversations with you about it.

1:Most rromance banter let you chime in

2:Plenty of characters will mention your romance at Skyhold when you talk to them. Just because it's not long like Wynnes chat does not mean it does not exist.

Good to know, because on both my Blackwall and Cullen playthrough, I've only had Dorian comment?

Probably the banter bug...

It might have to do with the romance? I know Cullen has people at Skyhold talk about it and it's referenced by Leli and Josie at the war table, but no party banter, Cass, Bull and Sera though have alot of banter, even break up banter.

I actually agree with things on your list but here is what would happen if "sexy time" was made that way...people are already whining way too much about whole nudity thing alone, add sex scene that shows sex and you get Witcher 2 and people either complaining that BW has gone too far or that they are trying to copy Witcher 2 in romances.

And honestly I'm more then tired of people that are already comparing DA:I and Witcher so there is no need to add more oil on already very huge flames.

As to the Mrs Rutherford comment: I got that one but I think it was before the last big patch.

Yup.  If I knew this would be a THING I would have recorded my PS3 a few weeks ago.

Just loaded up a save from right after we arrive at Skyhold and am collecting power points so I can be triple sure it really is gone before I tell Bioware to FIX IT, GUYS.

I have romanced Solas (still mad at him - plaidweave formal wear is on order) and right now am romancing Blackwall, which I have to say I am enjoying immensely. He is very masculine, which I like. I have seen the Cullen scenes online which are nice and sweet but he is just not really "manly"...and really I just can't take Bull seriously. Plus I'm not excited about Bull's voice acting either. I really like Blackwall's voice acting and he just is more down to earth. Plus it's just more intense, it seems. I'm surprised he hasn't gotten more discussion. He's my beardy boyfriend! :-)

Also there was some party banter regarding Solas and I after our "culmination scene"...about my tattoos and the fact that they were removed, and at the end he said it was done during a...(insert pause here)...private moment. I wanted to smack him. But it was a well written story I will give them that.

personally, i think the romances in DAI have been the best to date.  and if you think cullen's romantic scenes are scarce, you should try solas' romance >.>  but i digress.  i do agree with the op on some points, though.  an option to go to bed with them whenever you want after the culmination scene would be nice, but i was content with the kissing option.  more acknowledgement about your relationship from your inner circle would be nice, too.

i WOULD prefer that the sex scenes not become full-on porn.  not because i'm prudish, but i know i wouldn't be able to take the game seriously anymore.  i learned my lesson after installing a certain mod for DAO and laughing at the scenes.

as much as i love the romance subplots, i think some people forget that DA is not a dating sim and i'd rather it not become one.

That talking to is actually not romance related (rather it's Tevinter related), you get the same one if you're Dorian's friend and a woman.

Really? Is there a video? I had high approval with Dorian as femquizitor & never got the convo. But I got it as a male both in & out of relationship with Dorian. It plays out as her disapproving of homosexuality.

My incredibly selfish side wishes the time put in to romances were put into almost anything else, but I understand that many people enjoy them, so I deal with it.

I really only do them to unlock achievements or if a "flirt" line isn't particularly flirty (I save/reload a lot, so I tend to see all of the actual lines).  One of the first things a female elf can say to flirt with Solas is, essentially, "I won't let them harm you because you're an elf," said in a perfectly non-flirtatious tone.  That felt in line with what my character would believe so I said it anyway, heart icon be damned.

Well, Cassandras romance was a pleasant surprise.

Iron Bulls romance was spectacularly boring. More often than not i forgot i was in a romance with him at all. S & M jokes are all well and good, but i need more to a romance than just "Hey lady, want to f***?"

Im told Solas has a decent romance, but i havent tried it yet, and it seems to only barely be a romance to begin with due to events beyond the players control. I look forward to trying it though.

Blandwall is Blandwall.

Id rather romance a fear demon than Sera.

Cullen is a bit too "Dreamboat" for me.

I literally forgot Josephine existed.

Dorian seems like fun.

Ultimately i feel like these romance options are incredibly weak overall. Sadly, one of the big problems with DA:I is that its a mile wide and an inch deep. These romances might be adequate for a 30 hour game, but all of my playthroughs have broken 100 hours. Its not enough butter spread on too much bread. That really hurts replay value for me.

That said, i enjoyed the game, and what little I got from Cassandra. Hopefully whatever dlc is in store adds some more romance content. New dialog, more setup, more options*,  and all that.

*(Seriously, why exactly isnt Harding available? Or Varric so he can have a healthy relationship that dosent involve a woman he never see's, causes him no end of trouble, and is literally cheating on her actual husband?)

I don't want full on porn but, once you cement the relationship, you should be able to kiss or go have some cuddle time with at least being in bed together being obvious. As it is I feel like my poor quizzy gets to make love once in his/her life and that's all so, I do each romance once, then none because it's better if you don't miss what you don't know about than having a good thing once and never again.

I was very happy with the Cullen romance, but I sure wouldn't mind the OP's suggestions, simply because more is always fun  :P  Granted that it doesn't take away from the more essential parts of the game, of course.

I think it was somewhere in the Cullen thread that someone posted screens of folders in the game files named with keywords like 'Marriage ceremony in Val Royeaux'. Obviously that must have been cut content, but I wonder if that was intended for the love interests? While marriage is far far farrrr from a necessity in this game, I can't deny how grossly fun and sweet it would've been to have that sort of content  :D

There is a marrige scene in Val Royeaux, it is a culmination of a war table mission, and you get to speak at the wedding. If you say a certain thing Vivienne will approve If you bring her.

Cole does say something about the Cullen romance -- albeit obliquely. It's one of his weirdo sayings he'll open with when you talk to him at Skyhold. I don't know if he says it with other romances that involve a "he" (I'm on a Cass romance now, so I'll see later).

Don't open if you want to be surprised. It made me go "d'aww", because Cole said it (co incidentally) just after I'd done the quest in which you kill

Spoiler
, and I had been on the Before The Dawn string, as well, and I was feeling horrible about the fact I seemed to be killing so many of his old mates--and was about to take out another one. And, also, lyrium pain.
Spoiler

I mean, Geez, Cole, way to get all mushy.

Romanced Cass and Dorian. Working on the Bull now.

Dorian is so far my favorite. Cass was very sweet. But Dorian is more fun, I think. And I got a "talking" too from Mother Griselle about being in a gay relationship. She was objecting, respectfully. I told her, respectfully, to drop dead. You also get a nice butt shot of Dorian. Ok, a few actually :).

After the Bull I'll probably try Josephine. Oh and Cullen of course.

Mother Giselle does comment, but it isn't a disapproval of the relationship, it is more that he is there and friends with the Inquisitor, I have defended him from her with my female Inquisitor

Yes. Mine (the romance Cullen, one, a femmmewarr), too. She went through the Mage side with Dorian, and as far as she was concerned, Dorian was the only person besides her that truly knew the stakes they were all playing for. NO ONE was allowed to have a go at him. No one. Up until that point, she liked Giselle. After that, it was all she could do not to smack her in her smug stupid religious face every time she saw her.

Seriously, Giselle. Go eat a deathroot.

Re: friendships: My femmewarr loved Dorian as BFF--they kept flirting outrageously (which you can continue even after his personal quest), while he teased her about Cullen ("adorable!") and she teased him about Bull. Given, also, that she'd done her Cullen (typo, but I'm leaving that ;) ) before the poker scene, she found the whole thing (including Dorian's comment) funny.

She also managed friends/respect from Solas, which was lovely. The only one I didn't bother with was Vivienne (although my current playthrough--a male mage romancing Cass--has her at high friendship very early [no, he did not flirt with her] and I am surprised at how much I actually now like her. She's actually very sweet if you get to know her. My femmewarr just though she was a complete whatitisSeracallsherbutyoucan'tsayhere). I also loved the friendship with Cassandra that developed with my femwarr--it was really nice to see a genuine f/f friendship develop that wasn't snarky or bytchy at all (a nice change from the tropes).

The thing that bothers me, a bit, is that the only people who asked my femmewarr how she was doing, ever, were Varric (right at the beginning--and then he ruins that, later, by putting her on a religious pedastal), and Dorian. And then Cullen, if romanced. (Cassandra asks about the mark at Haven, but I'm not sure that's a full "how are you?" point). People are all prepared to advise her, but occasionally it'd be nice to have someone say, "so. It's been a bit of a week. How're you holding up?"

For all their friendships, the Inquisitor is rather alone, internally, at least. So many reminders at "what she means to Thedas" I wanted to yell at them, "I get it! Pressure OFF already, m'kay?"

ETA: It is said in-game that the time period is only 4-6 months, all up--so even Cullen's "slow burn" from complete strangers to lovers planning a future together is rather quickish, in context. He'd take a bit longer than that to get to marriage proposals, I think.

There's another banter between Solas and Cole (and if you have Dorian in-party, him too: "it's fascinatinglistening to you two; I'm never sure what you mean" or something like that), that could also apply--to any romance, I think, though.

I wish I'd written it down because I'd misheard it then I couldn't get it to pop again on reloads (the next time "that" random banter popped it was about the little boy who was missing a family then they gave him a new one but it wasn't the one he wanted, although the one he needed--which made me think they could have been talking about Alistair--they weren't, I think, but it applied okay, and Alistair was the imported Warden in that playthrough, so in my headcanon, they were ;) ).

Cole says something about "them" seeking love even though it can cause more pain [this was the bit I misheard], "but they chose the love anyhow." And then Solas says, "how could they not?" Then Dorian says his line. You seem to get this one OR the boy-family one, you can't get both to fire.

If anyone has heard that first line, I'd appreciate knowing what the first half was. :)

Yes, I have to agree, here. It was good to feel like the LI wasn't someone you could walk on (or vice versa) or that you had to become a douchey yes-person in order to "get them to like you."

Indeed, with Cullen, in one instance you must respectfully disagree with him to keep him interested (without complications ensuing). "Forget the Inquisition, of course you can do this, doofus" and that's after he's telling you--virtually yelling at you--that you're wrong for not questioning his judgment (now and past) more than you are.

Another note re the OP; I really feel the romances have been partly made, also, by the voice actors. Greg Ellis is clearly very comfortable in Cullen's skin (he was a better Anders, too, imo). Dorian's VA is fantastic. And Alix made a wonderful femmquisitor (the male default--whose name escapes me atm--is also good, but a little flat in comparison). The way she delivered the line: "Cullen. You. Me. Pretty lake." in that scene cracked me up.

After I got over oh, it's "Freddie Prinze Jr doing Deep Voice", I like his Bull, too.

Steve Valentine's Alistair will always be the melty one, though. 'Twas good to hear it again.
