I love how everyone keeps calling Lizard Squad "hackers".
That's what scare quotes are for.

Well, finally able to log on to PSN. But, naturally, EA servers are unavailable. Of course. ![]()

I haven't been able to get in either (PSN) ....i got in earlier this morning and even then the connection was really spotty,...these idiots overloading these servers need to get a life...it's becoming a tad annoying now.

I love how everyone keeps calling Lizard Squad "hackers". Anyone who has modified their coalesced is a better hacker than anyone in Lizard Squad.
Hacker tends to be a favorite catch-all. In the eyes of some of my family, I'm a hacker because I know how to fix their dumb mistakes when they accidentally shift around buttons in Microsoft Word.

Not that I have any connection to EA beyond being a customer and my Origin account, but ragging on them because of the attacks doesn't seem entirely fair. The previous round of attacks didn't even target the EA servers themselves, which are clearly still running (mostly) normally. Rather, they targeted the DNS system of hub ISPs and poisoned the DNS caches so that the EA servers would be unresolvable. The modus operandi this time seems to be similar.

I understand this statement, to a degree. But as someone who was literally at school when 'Computer Science' was introduced as an academic subject, I really do feel like a 'grandpa', as seen in South Park. I understand enough to know what the words mean, but not enough to know what they actually mean. It's all some kind of space magic to me.
As for the hacking, my suspicion is that Sony, like Lehman Brothers, Barclays, Fanny and Freddie, RBS, Malaysian Airlines etc etc are totally and completely bust, but are obviously 'too big to fail', so the whole 'Interview' scam was dreamed up as part of the process which will ultimately result in nationalising the debt.
Whatever the truth of it is, I still laugh every time I think of Mr President actually using the words 'cyber warfare', as a direct consequence of a Seth Rogan film. Yeah, right. Bravo guys, bravo.

As someone who got a Computer Science degree 8 days ago, this makes sense because I do some IT. Not because our CS program teaches any IT (sigh). Not that I have any connection to EA beyond being a customer and my Origin account, but ragging on them because of the attacks doesn't seem entirely fair. That's OK. No one you meet in everyday life knows how an internal combustion engine works either.
But I can put my explanation more simply. The Internet is basically a tangle of wet string. Lizard Squad applied a hairdryer to some bits of the string and dried it out. So it doesn't work anymore. Somebody has to find the dry bits and spit on them to get it all working again.

Few of my friends can play but I can´t. DLCs not uploading, can´t join in friends game and now I lost connection to server. Since last Origin update my Origin in game hasn´t work at all so no chat and no friend list for me.

I had no idea what you meant in your simplification. And I don't know why it won't unitalicize this.
