Hilarious that they haven't fixed this bug at all one game after. The one fix that was supposed to fix audio stuttering in the last game didn't do jack.

to be honest it feels like the video is just getting ahead of the audio and once the video hits a certain point the audio kicks off.

Well, whatever it is, a lot of people are having this problem. It is supremely annoying.

I agree. This is really pissing me off. Someone mentioned that they never did anything to the original in order to fix the problem? This is an outrage! I am going to try to reinstall the game into a different directory to see if that does anything. Wish me luck.

Here's a very helpful thread I found:

I haven't had a chance to try this stuff yet, but disabling my motherboard's auto-overclock thing sounds promising. I'll update when I've tried.

Guys! I found the solution! HAha! Thanks on hobotroids part. Ok everyone listen up closely. I found out what was wrong. It's your over clock settings. Reboot your system, go into the bios by either holding the delete key (or some other depending upon what motherboard you have). Now down tune all the settings to either standard or automatic. This WILL fix the problem. What apparently happened is that you graphics card, cpu and sound card were out of sync with the game. That means a mis que in the dialogue. By down tuning it, you shouldn't have this problem no longer. SOLVED!

Thank god. Well done KroganRogue. This glitch was really pulling me out of the game.

This Sound issue only happens with ME1 with the 1.02 update i played through the game 3 times already and lost the saves do to hard drive crashes. The Sound issue never happened till i installed the update, and it starts off in the Flux Bar, when trying to interact with Rita and Doran.

Worked. Thanks a lot bro.

Yes, worked great in here too. Thanks a lot KroganRogue!
As far as I'm concerned, using the nVidia system tools (nForce users only) to load a custom, non-overclocked profile when launching ME2 is a great workaround.

Well, this hepled me and thank you very much KroganRogue! But I must to share about something with you guys.
When I brought my pc in August I had some problems with pc, I mean one problem with graphic card, but before it apeared I installed Mass Effect and few more games. Just wanted to know how games looks on High settings. So there was no problem with sound in ME, but few days later my graphic card failed (Zotac 275 GTX AMP! version). I left my pc in Computer Service and they checked that graphic card had some problems in production so they changed it to EVGA 275 GTX ForTheWin version. In day when I was getting my pc back they told me they changed card etc. and one important thing - they overlocked my processor, so ofcourse everything was running well, but after that I had a lots of Blue Sreens says 'there is a problem with device, hardware or with graphic card'. I was thinking about this and I thought it's because my processor is 64bit running on 32bit operating system. I was wrong. I went to BIOS, checked almost every page and changed it to Optimized Settings. Almost everything changed (I don't know what they wanted to upgrade if I had only problems because of it) after that I ran Mass effect and everything is alright.
Thank you one more, you helped me with Mass Effect and with computer aswell.

Same here, Windows 7, q9550 8 gigs of ram. ATI 4780 x2, PCI Express Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion Series. It's random, some sentences at the end will cut off short.
I'm not using any type of overclocking.

Well, I also was thinking why I have this issue if I didn't overcloked pc.Crymic_Linith wrote...

If you mean procesor's core speed, yes my also wasn't running in overcloked Core Speed but there was few things turned on or changed to boost pc. Like I said before just check all page in BIOS about procesor, ram memory, anything what could be turned on to boost pc and change it to Optimized Settings or standard. I don't know what mobo you have, but I have Gigabyte UD5 so there was that option to optimize settings, use something similar to it.

This is exactly what happens to my Mass Effect 2 install, the sound cuts-off the last part (2-3 words) of all conversation audio. Also, the lip-sync is horrible.
Now, I read the best way to counter this, is to undo all overclocking, but here's the thing, I play this game on a Mac Pro via Bootcamp (Windows 7). Since a Mac has no BIOS, I'm not sure how I'm to go about searching for any overclocking issues. I don't use any software overclocking..
Any Ideas?
System:
Mac Pro Early 2008 dual quad-core running Windows 7 (64bit) using boot camp 3.1.
EVGA Geforce 285 (mac edition) graphics card.

I had this issue in Steam ME1 on XP and retail ME2 on Win7, but it only happens maybe 5% of the time, so the majority of the dialog comes through just fine, and then every now and then a word or half of a word will get cut off of the end of someone's sentence. Not annoying enough for me to complain, just adding that I've had this happen.

I have the same issue, but it doesn't appear to be consistant. The sound behaves like it does in ME1, when you put SloMo 1.5 or so.
Edit: Win7, RealTek, no overclocking on anything but the GFX, but I can't "downclock" it; It's factory overclocking.

Had the same problem: cut-off sentences and asynchronical speech. Turning of auto-oc in bios solved the problem! Thanks a lot for the solution!
Still it is ridiculous that we have to slow down our pcs...

I have the same problem reported by raven111222. Same Mac, with same video card; it's not overclocked at all, because we can't do it and it's not necessary on such a monster. I'm playing Italian version on Windows XP SP3 & DirectX 9.0c, so I think Windows version is not important. Our only hope will be next patch.
