Because faming chests just when you are looking for some schematic is just not funny. Also the current drop rates for schematics is abysmal, during my first 50 hours play trough I've got barely any schematics. Relying on RNG means you can just miss them.

So my idea is to have merchant perks for all schematics. Each perk opens up a tier of schematics at a vendor, put all schematics in various vendors. This way getting some schematics will require sacrificing a perk and cash but it means you can actually get it rather then relying on RNG.

OR

If it's just to late to put perks into the game then just vastly increase the drop rates for schematics. Alternatively just put them into vendors without perks. Just do anything, current system works for MMO's not single player games. Makes the game tedious, not fun.

Totally agree the system right now is flawed regarding the schematics at least. Maybe have mops drop schematics? Use vendors for completing sets/ buying schematics as suggested here.

I think the worst thing about the current system is that you need foreknowledge of how the loot system works to know not to loot everything you find (which is how it usually works in Dragon Age games)

If you want access to all of the cool armor variations, and to make full use of the crafting system, you need to know ahead of time to leave certain chests alone so you can farm them. This isn't acceptable. They should be included in vendors under Josephine's "The Short List" perk.

I wonder why schematics need to be RNG drops in the first place? Them being available from merchants and Wartable Missions would make more sense.

Hahaha I wasted another hour farming for the Dalish Warrior Armor...

Bioware please change this,  instead of enjoying the wilds and learning the story I stand in front of a chest hitting reload, reload reload...

Tried that on multiple boxes in my game and it doesn't work. I have to actually leave area and return to get my boxes to reset....which takes even LONGER!

Stupid I cant just buy my end game armor...I gotta waste over 40 hours to find 1 schematic for myself and none for my team or any helm schematic....

Not a happy camper here!

How about we give a quantity of resources to Harritt, our blacksmith and goes off on a timed mission to develop new schematics. 3 tiers of resource, 3 tiers of schematics. Have Dagna do reverse engineering for existing armor and weapon designs while Harritt works on unlocking new armor, weapons, mods and variations of existing designs.

Sounds good, any system that would minimise the RNG would be a godsend.

You would still be subject to RNG, though it would be a diminishing system. Since each new schematic would reduce the total in the pool.

Yes but it would still be a vast improvement.

Maybe for DA4, but they aren't going to change rng in "this" game. Most likely.

I just use cheat engine to give myself the armor appearance I want, and upgrade as I progress through the game. It's a 1000 times better than grinding, and praying rng goes your way.

Not everyone wants to install third party software just to cheat in their games, the current system is crap and they should consider adjusting it.

Farming for loot? Sounds like a MMO. :)

But I agree,, the loot system is this game is TERRIBLE! And while we we're on the subject of loot.. how about the ugly armor? The mobs have better looking armor then my IQ does. Why can't the mobs drop some of their armor so I can wear it?

This seems like a pretty God idea, at the moment I'm save scumming which annoys me as I've explored all the areas and I'm not the last quest and not even got any of the fade touched items that give hidden blades proc while also doing the same to get t3 schematics. 2 play throughs I've done and the first time was ok got what I needed when wanted but the second play through I get so much rubbish and no items I need.

The short list perk should include all items from the venders and not just ones that by time or rng like the hidden waste to get that t3 schematic I spent about 1 hour going in and out just to get the schematic I wanted.

I think some nice high-level loot can be dropped randomly (unique items etc.) but it's sometimes just too hard to get certain schematics. I wasted about 6 hours farming for the Dalish Warrior one, and while it worked in a previous save I couldn't find it in another playthrough a second time.

The system isn't only tedious, it's also broken sometimes.

I'm glad I came across this early enough that I've only looted most of Hinterlands, so far. I'll be saving before chests, for the time being, at least.

They definitely need a non-RNG way to access all schematics.

Yes, leaving the best-looking schematics like Dalish Warrior Armor for RNG chests isn't the best way to be. :(

(And who decided that default apprentice armor schematic you get in Haven should only produce lousy tier 1 armor, and there should be no tier 2 and tier 3 ones available with the same look? It's one of the best-looking suits in the game!)

Well and the shortness of sword and staff schematics is really odd....for a game in this universe. I've gad 2.5 pkaythroughs, non-farming, and gave never pulled a tier 3 on handed sword or tier 3 staff.

I agree. Add a semi-hidden shop somewhere in the world (by semi-hidden, I imagine something along the lines of the mounts guy in Val Royeaux) that has all the schematics. Or a "box" that will give you a random schematic of a specific tier.

The idea would work as follows:

The merchant has three different boxes for sale.

One for Tier 1, another for Tier 2, and yet another for Tier 3.

These would be priced accordingly, for example 1000,2000,4000 Gold respectively. (It's an example, don't freak out)

Each box purchase would GUARANTEE a schematic - but a RANDOM schematic of the desired tier.

You're still relying on RNG, but you WILL get a schematic of the tier you want, drastically increasing the chances of finding the schematic you want.

I support the perk idea. And give them to Bonny Sims (or maybe that otherwise useless guy next to her) so we don't have to trek out to Hissing Wastes or capture Emprise de Lion for them.

Fix this broken loot system...Bioware

Why Dalish Warrior armor (One of the best looking armors in DAI) is a random loot drop ?? I thought we will get it as a reward for completing Dalish clan quest or for defeating a Dragon but no it's ****** random loot drop...I don't mind farming but atleast tell me which area i have to farm to get this ****..

If i can farm in that garbage game like Destiny, then i will happily farm in DAI..

Use (and improve upon) the loot and crafting system from Baldur's Gate or Baldur's Gate 2.

-> Fixed.
