Personally, I liked this mission, precisely because it is different. I did have to run through it a few times to get the lay of the land so to speak, both for finding all the statuettes I needed and getting the ending I wanted. I do agree the level design makes you feel like a bit of a hamster in a maze, with all those doors and twisting, often dark, corridors. The only regret I have is that there is no way you can complete every quest here, as the limited number of hallas means you cannot open every door.

As for wanting to simply let Orlais collapse: I'd say this is basically the Orzammar succession crisis in Orlesian format. You didn't have the option there to simply say "go find our own king, you lazy dwarves" there either. You need the Orlesian support just as much as you needed the dwarves in Origins (with or without golems). Perhaps this could have been stated a bit more explicitly? I don't know...

Also, this entire thing made me think of the old Sid Meier's Pirates! game, with its dancing mini-game which was so different from the rest of the game that it tripped up (no pun intended) a lot of players, including me.

I think the reason Orzammar never struck me that way is as far as I know, there's no chance for the dwarves say "all right, we've had enough of you, get the hell out". In that case, the quest had two outcomes and either one let you move forward (in the end, you could flip a coin to decide who gets the crown and the dwarves wouldn't know). If the Orlesians have the option of giving me the finger, then I'm fine with them torpedoing their own country. I'd just like to see it not have Orlais be the linchpin holding Thedas together. Sure, it would make Thedas slide that much further into the abyss, but I'd prefer to be given the chance to try and save what's left anyway.

It's dissatisfying to have to play the Orlesians' jackass political games when my Inquisitor might be the sort of person who would call them jackasses to their faces.

I agree, I hate that you have to go against your headcannon for the inquisitor to complete that one. I did all the side quests once, now I just do the statue puzzle and storage room for the schematics and, do a fast run to get it over with.
