e26cf1376546784.jpgAshley Williams, Spectre & S1

Hi guys!

What I always wanted to know is - what is the Alliance S1 thing Ashley got promoted to, and why the hell did she get Spectre status anyway? I mean, this girl always was just an emotional wreck in ME1, talking about her daddy issues, and her sisters all the time, then getting angry with Shep, because he refused her constant advances into his bed.

In ME2 Shep saved her ass from the Collectors, and all he got was some snarky remarks. Does anybody honestly think it a good idea to release a xenophobic psycho woman who's hormonal imbalance, troublesome upbringing, and current brain chemistry renders her irrational,  as a Spectre unbound from any law onto the galaxy? My Shepard even told her not to accept Spectre status, but unfortunately she still did it - and the first thing she does is help Senator Udina stage a coup, kill a bunch of people on the Citatel, and coming close to shooting Shepard himself. Why the hell didn't she get her ass kicked out of the Spectre office right there and then?

You forget that Udina put her up as a Spectre candidate about two minutes before it was found out that he was a traitor and Cerberus spy.  All of this the Council forgot because she was uhhhhh, protecting (and in some cases even shooting Udina) the council.

the funny thing is - she nearly shot me, didn't help one bit, and next time I visited the Citatel the news reported "she helped take down Udina" lol.

Anyway, does anyone know what this S1 thing is?

You do know that this thread appears on top of the first page right? I'm not stalking you, I simply clicked on it.

Honestly, if you're being serious with what you wrote in the first post, I don't even know what to say. Like, are you stupid or something?

I mean, this girl always was just an emotional wreck in ME1, talking about her daddy issues, and her sisters all the time, then getting angry with Shep, because he refused her constant advances into his bed.

Riiighht... sure that happens... No

No not at all. She's not an emotinal wreck at all, she doesn't get angry with Shep because ''he refused her constant advances into his bed.''

In ME2 Shep saved her ass from the Collectors, and all he got was some snarky remarks.

You didn't even save her.... we don't even know how/why the Collectors didn't take her. And ''Snarky remarks'' suureee...

Does anybody honestly think it a good idea to release a xenophobic psycho woman who's hormonal imbalance, troublesome upbringing, and current brain chemistry renders her irrational,  as a Spectre unbound from any law onto the galaxy?

I don't even need to say anything about that. The trolling is pretty easy to see.

She doesn't help ''Senator''(Really? Really?...It's Councilor) Udina stage the coup, she doesn't even know he's part of it. She's only doing her job, which is to protect the Council. She doesn't ''kill a bunch of people'' except maybe some Cerberus troopers but I don't even think that happened.

And seriously, that pink writing and that huge irrelevant picture..... that's trolling to me, buddy.

Oh and one more thing: You can't even tell her not to accept the offer.

Like I said: the trolling is strong in this one.

This thread should be locked for it serves no real purpose.

I think she asked me if she deserved it - to which I replied something like "hell, no."

Are you saying gossip has no purpose in a forum called Scuttlebutt?

Also you contradict yourself by posting a big reply yourself, which you wouldn't do if it served no purpose, unless you believe your reply doesn't serve a purpose either.

Seriously? How old are you, 5? Don't you have anything better to do than troll on forums?

And for the people who really want to know what S1 stands for, no one knows what it means because it's never been said.

You can't tell her that she doesnt deserve it.

That big reply was to explain why this thread has no purpose.

Well, I am pretty sure she asked me something about that Spectre thing, and she wasn't very happy with my reply.

I guess, I just wasn't really listening then to her.

But honestly, do you think she deserved it?

Do you have a better candidate? She worked with Shepard to stop Sovereign, she is extremely loyal to the Alliance. And I'm fairly sure Udina would've framed her for the Council death during the coup, if it succeeded.

Her promotion to Lieutenant Commander is more weird IMO, but it was addressed in another thread where people knowledgeable about military mentioned such precedents taking place in real life.

Lisa Ann, if I'm correct.  Seeing as how this isn't the place for that type of thing, I won't take it any further than to just give you her name.

Thanks bro! You fulfilled the purpose of this thread! This question has been gnawing forever on me, and I couldn't even find the answer in google.

Strange that she has such a low number - S1 - basically means she just switched careers in the military and is the lowest rank in her new job?

One can only speculate. Maybe it is a unit of sexy female counterintelligence workers and she passed the entry test on her knees.

I don't think she was a worthy candidate, either. Neither her actions we see, nor the little we know of her off-camera activities, make her a suitable Spectre candidate. It felt forced. I would expect the Council to oppose unworthy appointments, but I guess the rationale is that they had more important things to do.

Honestly, ME3 ruined Ashley for me. I used to like both Kaidan and Ash. Each went sort of apesh1t on Horizon, but each acknowledged it and apologized, if romanced. The excessive ME3 makeover, combined with poor writing (IMO), made me feel like this wasn't the same character anymore. She seems to lack quality content. And, finally, there's the ridiculous Spectre appointment. All these things add up to my always leaving Ashley to her heroic death on Virmire, now.

I think they ruined Liara T'Soni as well. She was cute in ME1, in ME2 she behaved like a zombie, and in ME3 she was whining around all the time about my likely death, and she was talking more to that damn Glyph thing than to Shepard, very annoying. If I could, I'd have thrown Glyph out of the airlock together with that Shadowbroker TV-wall. Gonna have to romance Tali after all, and she can dance the best. Have you seen Liara dance? Worse than Shepard. People who can't dance are also not good in bed.

I will be first to admit I'm no expert on military matters. I've never been to army myself, eye problems and all that. However, it is my understanding that Ashley and Kaidan both got promoted four ranks in a gap of six months and both of them effectively outranks Shepard now. I know Kaidan does, not sure about Ash. From what I understand, that is extremely unlikely to happen. Especially based on the fact that they basically did nothing to warrant such kind of promotion.

Were Massively still around here, I'm sure he'd have a lot to say on the subject.

Haha! That last bit is a real world connection I made long ago!

I didn't like the choice to make Liara the Shadow Broker. At that point, they trapped themselves. She will either have most of the answers at every given turn, or she'll be a crappy Broker. They often zigged when they should've zagged, in connection with this, throughout ME3. I'll always remember my audible groan the first time I played Priority: Mars and Liara said "Hackett asked me to use my resources as the Shadow Broker...". Ugh. Fail. Cerberus knows you're the Broker, the Alliance knows, the Matriarchs know... who doesn't know, really? Go ahead and introduce the MacGuffin I feared.

She isn't very good at it, either, based upon her getting one-upped by EDI, Traynor or the Illusive Man at every turn. They threw sweet, wide-eyed Liara into the waste bin to give us an incompetent Broker. If the Broker had to play a role, I'd have preferred the Broker ultimately decide to ally with Shepard, in the interest of saving the galaxy. Sadly, the comic had already established the crappy backstory that set up the DLC.

Oh, well. This is just one more example of the risks of "making it up as we go along". Advance planning might've revealed the inherent issues entwined with making a crew member the Shadow Broker. Rant over.

the only trolls in this thread are people who post overly large crappy memes and useless pictures because despite not posting useful content you believe people should recognize you anyway. maybe daddy should have paid more attention to you, too bad.

Like Vazgen said, she worked with Shepard to stop Sovereign and she's extremely loyal to the Alliance. She's a good soldier too.

Though I have to admit that it doesn't really make much sense, considering her distrust for aliens. But I think that might have changed during the 2 years Shepard was dead.

I saved Kaidan on Virmire, so he's the one who becomes a Spectre in my playthroughs. Personally, I think it makes more sense for him to become a Specter.

That's not really true.

Let's take a look at the Systems Alliance Military Ranks with Kaidan and Ashley's different ranks through out the Trilogy.

ENLISTED

  • Serviceman 3rd Class/Private 2nd Class
  • Serviceman 2nd Class/Private 1st Class
  • Serviceman 1st Class/Corporal

NCOs

  • Service Chief
  • Gunnery Chief                 (Ashley - Mass Effect 1)
  • Operations Chief             (Ashley - Mass Effect 2)

OFFICERS

  • 2nd Lieutenant
  • 1st Lieutenant
  • Staff Lieutenant                 (Kaidan - Mass Effect 1)
  • Lieutenant Commander    (Ashley - Mass Effect 3)
  • Staff Commander              (Kaidan - Mass Effect 2)
  • Captain/Major                   (Kaidan - Mass Effect 3)
  • Rear Admiral/General
  • Admiral
  • Fleet Admiral

Kaidan's promotions make sense, only Ash's doesn't. How did she skip 3 ranks in 6 months?
