So I really don't know what class I want to play as. I haven't played much honestly but I have done a little archer. I'm sure that I want to be a rogue but I would hear you out if you think a warrior or Mage is more fun. I definitely want cole as a party member just because from videos and things I really like the character, plus he reminds me of my favorite character from my favorite book.

Basically I don't know what class to be. My main idea is rogue so I don't know if I should be an archer or dual wield. Honestly I want what is the most fun. Also if you suggest a class and sub class, I'd love it if you suggested a specialization as well as telling me your reasons why. Just keep in mind I want to run cole in my party.

I don't know a lot about dragon age, this is my first extensive play through of any dragon age game so any help is appreciated. Thanks guys.

Dual wield takes a lot more management and will typically be chaining a lot more abilities. Archer is more of a stand there, fire, wait for cooldowns, keep firing, etc. So dual wield might be more "fun" in the sense of being more engaging, but archer will almost certainly be easier to play for a beginner.

Not really looking for "easier" so much, I might be new to dragon age but am not to similar RPGs and honestly some of my favorites are dark souls 1 and 2. And my all time favorite is dragons dogma, but that's beside the point.

So maybe go dual wield? I have played some archer and it isn't terrible but honestly I am afraid it could be a little boring, which would suck to get 25 hours in and realize I hate it. I keep telling myself that when I get the specializations it will be more fun but I'm not so sure that'll be true.

So now I have two more questions,
1. What specialization would you say is more interesting for a dual wield?
2. What's the viability or two dual wielding rogues in a party?

Two DW rogue is perfectly viable. People have solo the game on nightmare (as rogue and mage both) so any comp of 4 is very doable. The only variable is how much work you are willing to put in with regards to learning how to make it work (or learning cheese strats such as rushing to the high level areas and avoiding enemies while farming super loot).

Ok cool. So what do you think about the specializations?

Hi.

Currently the most powerful class in the game is a Knight Enchanter mage. It's uber OP, largely because you become unkillable. Like, I could charge in on nightmare before my tank and just wack people around. Extremely easy class to play.

I found myself often switching to Sera, and found the tempest Double Dagger to be a close second. Flask of Fire (which takes off cooldown and stamina cost) and Flask of Lightning are extremely fun. Tempest is harder to manage than Knight Enchanter, so I found it more fun.

I ran party combination of Blackwall (tank Champion Warrior), Sera (Double Dagger Tempest Rogue), Vivienne (Knight Enchanter Mage), and my character (Knight Enchanter Mage). Most fights after specialization unlocks were trivial after Skyhold, and I played on nightmare. The big thing about this comp is that barrier is up 24/7, and you have two revives for crazy Sera and Blackwall if needed. Blackwall hardly ever died because he has this special last stand talent.

Basically, any party comp consisting of two mages and a tank makes the game pretty easy.

I think KE is the simplest class to make quite strong but IMO it's not the most OP or even the build that's most durable. A proeprlt specced champion is unkillable. And a rogue (even ignoring the arguable tempest focus bug) is the most powerful burst damage by far.

If you want to play a Rogue and plan to include Cole in your party, you might want to consider Archer and taking the Artificer (sp?) Specialization.  Unfortunately, you cannot switch weapons sets like you could in DA2.  IMHO, Cole was designed to be a DW Rogue.  Cole's Specialization is Assassin.  On the other hand, if you don't care about having a ranged Rogue, you could also play DW Rogue.  However, you might want to consider Specializing in Tempest.  I would recommend taking a Mage and a Warrior to round out your party.  I play as Mage Knight Enchanter and typically include Cassandra, Sera and Dorian unless I have a specific quest / story-related reason to take another companion.

My assassin would like a word with you. DW assassin is amazingly good, if you can play it properly.

DW rogue is great but you need to spend significant time managing positioning. At least I did.

ya that seems to be the best party makeup, 1 tank 1 rogue and 2 mages.

sera I think also makes a better dagger rogue than archer, tempest rogue abilities seem much more suited to melee than archery.
