I just got the longbow of the Griffon and was wondering if it is top of the line or not.

The specs are :190dps

                          150 damage

                          16 electricity

                          15%armor pen.

                           42%attack

                           weapon fires three shots when attacking

It's widely considered one of the top 2-3 bows in the game, especially for the Hunter. You can't go wrong with it, but there are other choices people will take over it for flavour reasons.

The top 3 bows in the game are Tresparren, Punched By The Maker and Griffon Bow.

Each has their pro's. The Tresparren for example is amazing at clearing trash. The Griffon is a hard target murderizer. Punched is a middle ground between the two with a heaping helping of crit chance.

Griffin is, IMO, most valuable to Hunters as they (when spec' appropriately) gain the most advantage when up close and personal which is when the Griffon really shines. And the Tresparren is infinitely more valuable in the hands of an Archer because of upgraded Longshot.

Boy was I off.  It's called Trepanner.  The Trepanner's Requital.  125dmg, 18% ArP, 18% Flanking, On Kill: Target explodes for 75% weapon damage.

Its a nice bow....I say its #2.  Punch of the Maker is my baby. (well...when I play archer at least.)

PBtM is a great bow, 10% chance to proc Walking Bomb.

While the Griffon is an awesome bow I still find myself out-DPSing Griffon users (as archer or hunter). Mind you I also added a grip adding some cunning and strength, which is likely making a diff.

Either way they are great bows.

Over a Grunnsman?  WAAY more damage.  Now if you were comparing a PBTM and a Trepanner, Ok, I get the hesitation but a Grunnsman is garbage next to a PBTM.  PBTM does a 1/3rd more base damage alone barring the 16% crit bonus.

I am rather underwhelmed by the Treppanner. The death explosion mechanic doesn't really make up for inability of Fulldraw/Long Shot to one shot isolated targets due to lower bow damage/stats.

 

And the AoE for the explosion is so small, which makes it difficult to use the death explosion in the first place. Especially considering that many other classes will clean up a bunched up group super fast as it is; and bunched up enemies are unlikely to have a full HP target ripe for Full Draw finisher, let alone actually getting killed by Longshot.

the best bow I have found is a rare lvl 22 "Bow of Cruel Redemption" with a bow grip that increases crit chance and a superb Lightning Rune it looks like this:

143 Damage

+25 Electricity Damage

+16% Critical Chance

+27% Critical Damage Bonus

+8 Willpower

On hit: Heal for 1% of Maximum Health

 

 

It allows you to recover from injuries since you always aggro archers and some of them hit on occasion. To be able to restore hp while dashing out huge damage saves your Heal pots for the boss fight that makes it a clear winner in my book.

I use the trepanner on my archer personally, with the 30% long shot ring it more then makes up for the damage difference that punched by the maker has, and the 75% weapon damage on kill is actually 75% of damage dealt by the killing shot. Im constantly seeing 400-700 spirit damage aoes going off on kills from long shot.

I like this bow on my Archer as well.  I use this over the Longbow of the Griffon.  I do not have Punched by the Maker.  I do have Trepanner.  I will use the Bow of Cruel Redemption until I pull a Punched by the maker.

 

Longbow of the Griffon on the Hunter all day, every day.

I love The Trepanner's Requital. It's a flavor choice for me.

 

I just love the exploding bodies of the enemies and the sound that makes.

I know this reveals the true dark nature of my soul but I wouldn't want to trade this bow for any other

I use the tenasarin, I like the extra 17 dex
but why does it have shield bash ?

I use the tenasarin, I like the extra 17 dex

Why not? The extra perks of weapons don't exactly make sense if you hadn't noticed.

I also have the Tenesarin and cannot complain about the extra dex. Its hidden "DPS." Shield bash is hilarious when it goes off.

 

And I have a +25 dmg lightning rune. I am holding onto it but am getting itchy to put it on my bow. Maybe I should hold out hope for one of the top 3? (Tenesarin is at least top 5 right?)

Longbow of the Griffon is the best bow in my opinion. Punch by the maker is overrated as is Tenesarin.

I just got LBoG yesterday. Great bow. I also have PBtM as well, and give the edge to PBtM.

Whil griff has 3 shots many miss. PBtM's walking bomb perk = win.

From experience, PBtM beats out LBoG.

Funny to revisit this thread. I didn't have a Longbow of the Griffon back then but now I have two, lol.
