Wut

Sigh.

Gravity. Fall. Banged up. Your avatar pic. Because she didn't believe in gravity.

I.E. She's as dumb as a sack of bricks, and I honestly think that's a little unfair to the sack of bricks. At least the bricks know how to shut up.

They're gods because the elves worship them. You don't have to whip out the god yardstick and slap their grace/power on the table for measuring for all to be considered gods, lol

Fall? I'd say she kicked some demon ass. Where do you see she fell? ;)

As for her being dumb, that's your opinion thankfully. We have clearly different views of the word "dumb".

Well luckily, I'm not the only one, lol.

That denial tho. You know, you can like a character that doesn't have all her eggs in one place ;) Didn't stop people from liking Merrill. Or Leliana.

Besides there's no denial if you personally believe she's dumb. Because that's an opinion. ;)

Na, not in this case. She's so dumb, Cole lost 200 iq points just from trying to read her mind and getting too many static signals.

Na, she's not dumb. She has different views. Different views=/=dumb.

Cat already explained this in a post page ago but of course go keep calling her "dumb".

It's funny though, you call Sera dumb for not accepting "elven gods", yet you continue making posts in the Cass thread about how it's "wrong" for Cass to be attracted to qunari or that "it doesn't make sense".

But as i said, keep talking.

Edit: also if that's what you got from Cole then.... LOL. This is so not what happened in my party. :D

You're confusing eloquence with intelligence. Simple mistake to make.

Hi everyone. Let's try to get the thread back on topic. Thank you.

Yea k thats fine but why did you only delete my post and not the one that brought up qunari in the first place? She claimed I said it wouldn't make sense for cass to be attracted to the qunari and that wasn't what I was saying at all. Only that in this world, someone would say something about it given the chantry's attitude.

And then I moved on and mentioned why I thought the character Sera was dumb, both in relation to the gods she denies, even though she came here to see if all of this could be real in the first place, and then her useless red jenny group.

My post was in response to an off topic post, then continued with the topic.

edit: Nvm, letting it end. My bad.

My post was in response to an off topic post, then continued with the topic. Stop ghosting my posts, please, or at least do the same to the other offenders.

They erased my post immediately even though it was completely on topic, so it wasn't just you. :/

Anyway, a summarized version of what I said: What Sera shows is ignorance/denial, not stupidity. Sera is obviously capable of surviving on her own, and calling her 'mentally retarded' is completely uncalled for and ridiculous just because you don't agree with her. That's what really irked me when I read the OP. Otherwise, I can understand being peeved about this part of the game with her. But that's Sera, she's honest about her thoughts and feelings and doesn't back down. Just like many of our other companions.

It's hard not to consider her... a bit "off hinged" so to speak with the way that she acts. I swear, when I first met her... I didn't know what the heck was going inside that head of hers. She's so... modern? I guess. Out of place, certainly. I don't know what her personality is, but any time she acts as you say, ignorant and is in denial, it comes off as much more than that simply because her personality is so all over the place. It just rubs me the wrong way, because it feels like they tried too hard to make her interesting, and I've seen many a character like that..  in amateur fanfiction.

Sera is pragmatic, a bit materialistic, and well aware of her own limitations. There's only room in her world for things that she can grasp, things she can change, and things that tally with her existing experience. Everything that doesn't fit in the boxes she's laid out for her life is frightening because it would require her to question the things she's stubbornly clinging to. She admits to a friendly inquisitor that she has difficulty learning life lessons.

That stubbornness and determination isn't going to make her everyone's favourite character, but it's by no means a stupid response. many people do tend to outright reject information that doesn't fit with their pre-existing worldview. It's been the subject of many many studies. Essentially it's a case of "my world has been broadened a lot over the last few months. I've seen a huge number of things that I can't/don't want to understand and this is where I have to draw the line. This is my limit for change."

I'm a bit on the fence about her as a character. It's taken two playthroughs for me to make sense of her responses and rationale, and I don't tend to agree with her much. But that doesn't make her character any less nuanced or realistic, and I appreciate that there really are people whose response to being repeatedly flung into extraordinary situations is to cling to their existing beliefs and prejudices as a safety net.

Sera is a rather misunderstood character, you have to replay some dialogues with her to understand what she actually means.
I was initially really put off by her attitude towards elves and elven culture in general, since I like the elves the most in DA,despite their obvious flaws. If you take a closer look and listen to her,Sera is just a scared girl that tries to survive into a complicated world where she's automatically treated as an outcast because of her race.
It's no wonder she feels bitter about a glorified past, when's she lives in a horrible present that demands her to be cynical and pragmatic in order to survive. Her tendency to oversimplify or willingly blind herself about some things, is her fatal flaw and the reason she won't grow as a person.
Every though she's an interesting character I noticed a lack of character development, which I must admit was what I found disappointing about her and not her views (unless ofcourse the writers intend to use her in the future and have her evolve there.)
She appears to never have had her beliefs and views challenged before, and the way she reacts indicates that the idea frightens her.

Sera's just a kid. Kids usually grow up and realize the folly of their actions later on. Sera's probably going to do the same as well, because that tends to be a common trait for most Dragon Age companions.

- Blackwall was a murderer who killed innocent children for a quick buck but later in life realized the horror of his actions.

- When Cassandra was young she despised all mages after her brother was killed, and wanted to be a templar so she could probably  exact her revenge and anger against some poor Circle mages who nothing to do with her brother death but happened to be mages. Eventually through she grew up and realized the folly of her rage.

- Cole was a serial killer who killed countless Circle mages because he thought he was being compassionate by doing so. But guess what? He learned that was wrong and grew up after being given time to properly understand the morality of his actions.

- Cullen practically supported the tranquil solution in Dragon Age 2 and flat said he considered mages to not be people but by Inquisition he had the revelation that he and Meredith were wrong that mages needed to protected like everyone else.

- Even wise Solas can look back at his past actions and come to the conclusion that his rebellious youth was misguided (it took him about 1400 years but better late then never) and only made the lives of the people he was trying to protect worse.

I'll reiterate, Sera is just some young twenty something kid with no real direction who doesn't even know who she is yet, and as consequence of that inexperience she's going to make decisions that are immature, because quite frankly she is literally immature and native to the world. That doesn't necessarily excuse her actions but along with her childhood I think it does somewhat explain them better then the "she just a moron" conclusion.

So, yeah, Sera's an ignorant kid whose probably going to be a somewhat decent adult that's going to look back at her younger self and say, "Wow, I was fill of shite."

That said, if you don't want to romance her because she's getting your nerves, I understand and hate her more negative qualities as well, its just that I can look past that and admire the few moments when she does manage to be reflective. Also I find her somewhat amusing at times.

Cullen did not support the tranquil solution , dont know where you are getting that from ,heck neither did Meredith , she actually rejected it when it was proposed ( confirmation of that can be found on Ser Alrik's body ) , i however get what you mean in regard to Sera.

I just told her it was all nonsense, even if I did believe it. Sera's mind isn't ready for what happened at the temple.

I dunno, I'd ask DAx protagonist, Badass McAwesome.

And yes, something Godlike.

Abelas says (oh, yeah, that name translates as "Sorrow", by the way) that "to you, it may as well be so."

Where is your Maker now. Call down his wrath upon me. You cannot? For he does not exist!

Nothing you said in this post made any sense.

As for the whole Sera thing. She's afraid of the fact that the elven gods may of existed because then what she already believes could be wrong. So she denies it and anyone who tells her otherwise.

Not really an excuse, but that's her line of thinking.

Yes he didn't directly support it, but if I recall correctly he did say that such a solution should at least be taken into consideration and that the rite of tranquil should be used more often. Not exactly a sweeping endorsement of the plan but he didn't bat even bat an eye at its horrific and immoral implementations.

I dont recall him supporting it directly or indiretly since you dont get ask his opinion on that particular matter in DA 2 i however doubt it , if even Meredith thought that the plan was crazy then i dont see Cullen endorsing it in anyway.
