Is this mentioning of Bethany due to the idea that she's the only female virgin in the game? I don't think she is.

More like the only female virgin the series!  :P

I agree

Merril and Isabella were both very bad romance options

compared to DA:O (where we got Leliana and Morrigan) it was a disappointment
DA:I is a step in the right direction but in my opinion Cassandra and Josephine are still not that great

having Morrigan and Leliana in the same game (with updated looks) didn't help either

My Inquisitor wanted to romance them more than the other two

Never understood that one. Im mean, they arent technically related, so it doesnt matter?

They are both Bhaalspawn, half siblings, so yes, they ARE related.

Video game virgins are overrated. Incest just invites a trip to the shrink. We were spared.

Yeah, but given that they can be completely different races (liek pure gnome, pure elf) It has to be assumed that Bhaals DNA changed for the pair's parents

How does it suck?

Very carefully through an emergency induction port.

If you're still calling the early medieval period "the dark ages", you don't know what you're talking about.

That's all.

OT, but as the daughter of a fairly prominent medievalist, I have to say THANK YOU on my father's behalf.  He's spent at least the last year (and probably more) trying to get people to stop using this term.

Besides, everyone knows that the first decade of the 2000's was the dark ages.

With choices like this, I'm surprised that they didn't add a little incest with Bethany.  At least she's a nice person.  Certainly a lot more appealing than any of the other Romance candidates.

Quite frankly I don't see what the big deal is. There are far more deplorable things players can do in any of these games than two adult siblings who happen to find themselves in a romantic relationship. I remember Bethany was quite the popular character and some fans were openly contemplating the  idea of a her being a Romance option.  An idea that Bioware just flat out refused to entertain in the slightest, aggressively squashing any thread here that dared to bring up. They talk about role play and just letting the player craft their own experience whatever it may be but at the end of the day they just put in what they want and cater to who they want.

So what is it now that most things are worse than then?

Letting the players craft our own experience doesn't imply that all the NPCs should go along with whatever sick fantasies we dream up.

Sure, lots of things are more deplorable, like raping puppies, or setting orphans on fire to keep warm. It doesn't mean that it's something that the writing team should even consider worth including just to cater to some random weirdos that comprise a portion of their user base. Aside from the entire team probably not liking this sort of thing at all, the amount of criticism that they would most likely get would probably greatly outweigh any real benefit from adding this.

As for crafting your own experience, why would you limit this to something silly like incest? Why can't I make the entire team take part in a massive orgy?

To add to AlanC9, Is every character supposed to be a blank slate? If that's the case, they cease to be characters. Logistically how are they supposed to put in the game every possible thing someone might think of to do with or to anything in the game? You are correct that they've chosen to pander in certain ways, but those issues arise with changing established characters, not creating new ones.

The other thing to consider is why they should even put something like incest in and why you want them to. Is it because it's good role playing or characterization? Is there some compelling story to tell? Or is it because you the player find Bethany attractive. I know that at some level we all consider the latter when we play these games, at least for our "golden" play-throughs. However, there is an ocean of difference between those wishing Scout Harding in DA:I was an option and wishing they'd let you date your sister. The fact that the other romance options are poorly written is an argument for their improvement, not one for making Bethany a romance option.

It's also an argument after the fact. Players thought of romancing Bethany after the game was done, not before.

I love how a straight male will always pretend to speak for all straight males. So typical.

As opposed to those not pretending to speak for all gay ones every time someone mentions Dorian / lolKrem.

Your bias is showing, my dear.

LOL

You do know there were people who "claimed" that Sera is a disappointment for the lesbian "community" and how they talked as if all lesbians would agree? I was opposed to that.

There will always be people who would disagree with them. Be it gay/bi/straight.

Try again, my dear.

Just a casual little debate about the value of hugs and the male/female ratio on the internet, all quite stimulating.

Morrigan is a cow, Leliana is a zealot, Merrill is an idiot, Isabela is a ****, Cassandra looks like a dude and Josephine is boring.

The same tune is played every game. All that changes are the words.

So this is less about "straight males" and more about Tumblr and such sites being full of dumb.

Glad to see we are in agreement  :)
