Very specific question y'all!

I have just started a second playthrough, and am intending to romance Cullen again. I've heard that there a few differences if you play with a mage though, and have done so this time...does anyone know what those differences are/if there are any at all?

Thanks :)

Circle mage gets specific conversation options during almost all major cutscenes, where they can speak to him about how he feels about falling for a mage etc. i personally think it adds a lot to the romance and other cutscenes but it's alll down to personal opinion :)

As I saw, apart from the usual dialogue choices, at some points there are certain dialogue options available only for mages. They are a plus, though, not scene-changing lines.

For example, in the scene in the lake, a mage Inquisitor can ask Cullen if he's nervous about being alone with a mage. Cullen can reassure her that no matter what problems he had with magic in the past, he doesn't see any of them in her. Given that one of his personal themes is his trauma from Ferelden, the extra dialogue choices tend to feel organic to the romance.

You get several "alternative dialogues", in fact all cutscenes are the same but Cullen said several things specific for mages. And you also get several dialogue options.

If you want, re-ask this question in the Cullenite thread & you can even get the comprehensive list :D

Here are several differences/extra dialogue that I can remember from my current PT (Trevelyan mage romancing him)

I just made up a mage with intent to romance Cullen.

... and I made her look a lot like the mage Warden. Because I like trolling fictional characters.

Thanks everyone! :)

Haven't even left Skyhold yet, so I'm happy to see there's lots of good dialogue ahead...

Am playing with a Warden Allistair and choosing the 'Pro-Templar' route for the first time, also.

Oh, there's also an extra conversation option if you ally with the mages. You get to ask Cullen if the two of you are ok about it. I don't think it's romance-related though.

Edit: spelling

I sided with the mages first time around...can't remember what that extra conversation option was though?

If you ally with the mages (as opposed to conscripting them) he gets all ruffled up and says he should get the templars ready in case anything goes wrong and in general acts as if he's unhappy with your decision. So your Inquisitor gets to ask him if they have a problem to which he replies they don't.

Wow, that's sweet. :) I romanced him as a rogue, good to know mage-related conversations were brought up, considering his history. First game he was very traumatized by what he witnessed magic can do, second game he pretty much says "Mages cannot be treated like people" then the events with Meredith make him find his way. By the third game he's changed and developed so much. He is a great character.

I really like the mage-specific option when you do the 'lets talk about us' conversation where you ask him if he could ever care for a mage given his templar background.

Actually if you offer the mages full membership in the Inquisition or if you offer the Templars full membership, either way Cullen gets ruffled about it :)

Can't really blame him, he's seen both sides go totally off their rocker.

Managed to trigger the mage specific dialogue by the lake, the 'could you ever care for a mage' line at the first kiss scene, and another magey type line in the scene on the battlements after the lyrium side quest with Cullen has resolved itself.

Have I missed any? I much prefer the mage dialogue to what I heard the first time around  :)

After you deal with the Grey Wardens there's also one you can ask about what he would do if you ever become possessed.

To be fair, he himself went completely loopy more than once. He was pretty intent on killing everybody in the Mage's Tower back in DA:O and that is his very first appearance. He's softened up since then but I still haven't forgiven him for wanting to kill Wynne and the children under her protection.

He's an interesting character to be sure, but he's also flawed - which is pretty great.

I hated Cullen at first because he wanted to kill Wynne.

I want to nap in Wynne's bosoms.

I've just done Adamant. I'll go see if that line has triggered.

Most of those lines you'll have with any mage, regardless of gender (not sure about the dalish thou, only rolled humans). Of course the answers will be slightly different, but the tone will be the same. For instance, if you ask him about possession he'll say he doesn't want to think about that or something similar (and he kinda says the same in a romance). So they're not only romance-specific.

Kinda feel bad for him, though.  Every time you ask something like that, I imagine him all like "Maker, not this again, and how many times I have to tell - we're cool".

I think more precise dialogue for him in DAO was to kill everyone in the chamber with Uldred. I don't think he was aware that anyone elsewhere was even alive? Only reason the some mages were alive in lower stores was because Wynne was revived by spirit that helped her to create barriers. Then couple blood mages and one mage hiding in the cabinet, everyone else had died.

I actually checked the dialogue and he says: You must kill everyone up there. So I doubt he though that anyone in below had even survived. I think he especially meant mages in the chamber that Uldred was experienting with.

I don't remember what option I picked in that scene, but I'll certainly be choosing this in the future XD.

To be fair he had been saved after he was tortured physically and emotionally using the mage female Wardens image. So I don't blame him for lashing out

My second playthrough has been a female human romancing Cullen, there's specific mage dialogue in almost every cutscene with him.

Made said path all the more rewarding in my opinion, :)

Yeah I asked him what he would do if I was would become possessed. He drops his voice making it all sexy and depressed sounding "Don't ask me this, because I can't".
