Best weapon enchantment for the final fight?

I'm wondering what weapon enchantment I should put on my weapon(s) in preparation for the fight fight. Specifically, do the Cleansing Runes work against Corypheus and his dragon? Or would I need a Dragon Slaying Rune for the dragon and a Cleansing Rune for Corypheus - which would suck, because I can't switch weapons in the fight. In that case, I'd have to use an elemental rune, only I have no idea if I'll get enough pure elemental essences for anything but fire until I get to the end.

Does anyone know? I'm playing a ranged rogue, but if possible, I'll put the rune on my warriors' weapons as well.

Runes are pointless as they only affect your auto attack damage NOT your skills. Secondly if you want the highest get the hidden blades masterwork.

Runes only affect standard attacks? That's disappointing. I was looking for a way to make the final fight easier. My masterwork slots tend to be occupied by "generate 3 guard on hit", which does the job nicely in dragon fights. A rune would've complemented it, but with only standard attacks being affected I guess the difference between an elemental rune and a cleansing rune is insignificant.

you do know that multiple +3 guard per hit do not stack. So just one of them will do the job.

I didn't know it's possible to have more than one masterwork slot. How does that work? I don't recall any upgrades with their own masterwork slots.

He's referring to equipment/shield/dagger masterwork slots. You can't stack Fade Touched Silverite with Fade Touched Silverite on two pieces of equipment to get +10 guard on hit.

You're thinking about it like multiple masterworks on one weapon, which isn't really what he's saying or even possible.

Ah, I see. I mentioned I was playing a ranged rogue, so that never occurred to me.

....wait....does a "do x on hit" masterwork item work if it's applied to armor?

You live, you learn. Thanks. I never knew that.

In other words, handy for a dagger rogue, a secondary concern for most other classes.

One skill runes DO work with is Spirit Blade.

Yes.

All offensive and defensive masterworks work like you think, no matter what weapon or armor they are allotted to. For example on my rogue, I have a dagger that has a 10% chance to give me 5 seconds of walking fortress,(fade touched dawnstone) and my armor has the 10% chance to use hidden blades with 5 added hits (fade touched plustian velvet). They apply to all hits I make in combat.

They're not entirely pointless: at some point, all of your characters/companions will have to resort to auto-attacking because they'll run out of stamina/mana.  You might as well make those auto-attacks more powerful.  Runes are actually handy for rogues; they have to auto-attack to build up stamina faster, so they tend to do it even more than other classes.

That said, I couldn't say whether a Cleansing Rune would work on Corypheus.  Theoretically it should, since he is a darkspawn, but I have no idea whether it actually does.  I cannot even speculate about the dragon.

Even then prioritizing runes is not the best way. Take them if you get them as then not going to add a lot. Besides a rogue generally is not too stamina starved and if you have a 50 stamina amulet most times its cooldowns i wait for.

The last fight isn't really that hard. With a decent level it's quite manageable. The dragon fight is not as tough (long) as the other dragon fights (judging from my playthrough - it could depend on a choice you do, though). I only had to reload once (hard difficulty) because I positioned my character poorly - at the time I was lvl 24, I think.

I also didn't bother using the tac cam throughout the entire playthrough - I guess you can squeeze out some extra dps and survivability if you do.

I didn't bother much about switching runes either, I just left the dragon killer rune in my staff from the dragon slaying runs i did shortly before the end fight.

I can recommend concentrating on team combos - they do well in all situations.
