I also like Sera. She can be i furiating at times but I find her common person outlook fresh to DA companions and her weird loopy persona somehow charming. She also happens to be the most useful rogue in combat.

The one I dislike the most is Vivienne. She rubs me up the wrong way a lot but lacks the content or appealing attributes to compensate. Even with her being the most useful mage in combat I'm most reluctant to have her in my party, and only do so if it really fits the story or if I need her vs a dragon on low levels.

After her I'd say Iron Bull, aka James Vega Again. The character worked great in ME but sticks out like a disfigured and incongruous thumb in DA. And he kinda butchers Qunari lore (good job I didn't like them anyway).

Then Blackwall for being so boring for all but 5 minutes of the game.

Then Varric for being surprisingly dull and too much faff to keep upgraded (stupid Bianca).

I like all the others.

basically agree with you - sera best girl, and i hate vivi and also hate that i have to bring her everywhere because she can solo everyone in the game. on nightmare. she has occasionally good dialogues with iron bull and dorian though - i like how dorian takes no **** from her.

although i disagree on the Bull/Vega assessment - Iron Bull was awesome - gave no fucks about anyone and always fun to talk to. meanwhile Vega was just the most random **** ever - like, "hey Shepard, remember me? we're best friends, right? cool, imma go work out now". and i'm just standing here like "who invited this douchebag? hey *******, do you even know who i am?? where the **** were you when i was saving the galaxy for the last 2 games???"

otherwise i'd say.. blackwall, cole, solas boring, cass good when she's being sassy, esp. paired up with varric, varric ok but was definitely better in 2.

When you're the second most powerful lord in the realm you call your kids whatever you please. Particularly when your resume includes "winning a civil war" and your kids resume included "beating up people in iron suits with tourney weapons".

How dare he? This little man call me a pup!

Well he will not try again since the Maker exist he brought his holy punishment on Bryce

Sera's disliked? I love her! She's this kind of weird mix of cynicism and optimism that i find really endearing. I actually found myself thinking "For someone who speks in riddles, she's probably the most straightforward character of the game". Also, playing a Vashot Saarebas imagining her as a little sister to my guy came way too easy :D

My most disliked character in DA:O is probably Dog (I'M SORRY BUT EVERYONE ELSE IS TOO AWESOME AND I LOVE YOU TOO).

In DA2 the title goes to Sebastian, mainly because Anders interacted with my Warden and so becomes much more bearable by proxy

Blackwall for DAI. He's just the most dull in my opinion

My favorite characters are Morrigan, especially because in my canon (and in my 1st playthrough of Inquisition) My Warden didn't perform the Ritual and so i really enjoyed seeing how much she "unexpectedly" grew to love Kieran, Varric/Fenris/Isabela for DA2 and Cole/Sera/Dorian for DAI.

I used to hate Sera, but I'm playing again now with a very different Inquisitor and with this Inquisitor Sera isn't nearly as irritating. She's more than just tolerable; she's likable.

I don't hate anyone.

The only companions I found slightly annoying in this franchise were Fenris, DA2 Anders, Sebastian and Sera.

Solas and Blackwall sometimes bored me but at least Solas has the advantage of being more involved in the plot so he was more fleshed out.

If anything, lots of DAI companions could have used more development and content. Vivienne, Blackwall (I think lots of people will agree that his arc sort of fell flat) are prime examples.

Varric too have that sort of half-arsed arc going on in Inquistion, maybe because by contrast he felt very fleshed out and involved in DA2?

And while my favourite go to party is Rogue/Cassandra/Vivienne/Dorian I still like to use the other companions regularly. Well except Bull, cause I need to wait a little bit to have better equipment for him in order to use him properly. Guy dies fast early game.

I dislike Sera because she's not sincere in her intent to help the Inquisitor.

She wants to satisfy her curiosity on Chantry facts. She uses the Inquisitor to go on a personal quest "to learn truth and s***". It's a teenager's concern, a byproduct of idealism and eagerness to learn about the true essence of things.

Sera has no idea of the danger the Inquisitor and her companions are facing. She has complete disregard for the consequences should the Inquisitor be blamed for poor political decisions. She cares nothing for the Inquisition and its people: the soldiers and their families, the men and women serving in many ways. She simply doesn't care. She says she cares about the small people doing the everyday work, but that's a cheap argument, since she comes from the lower class herself. As if that weren't enough, later on the game she confesses to you her group isn't worried with changing anything in Orlais. They're just pranksters. How is that defending the underdog and fighting for concrete changes, for a fairer system?

So I dislike her and I think she's unfit for the Inquisition. She doesn't believe in compromise. She doesn't care for the importance of the cause and the fight. She's just along for the ride because of selfish curiosity.

To be fair none of the companions join the inquisition out of love for an inquisitor that they barely know. At the very least each and every character is there as they don't want to die from the breach. Others have additional reasons for being there outside of survival but, at least initially, those reasons don't include loyalty to the inquisitor. Blackwall is also there to redeem himself,Solas wants to recover the orb, Leliana and Cassandra want to avenge the divine, Iron Bull is a spy, Varric was conscripted, Dorian wants to stop Alexius, Cole wants to help people, Vivinenne wants power. Sera's search for truth seems noble in comparison to some of the other companions reasons for being there.

She doesn't believe in compromise

That's one thing I LIKE about her.

If there was anything I wanted in inquisition set in fantasy settings, it's the severe lack of compromise. Unity is great, but this a such silly vehicle for it. Why this game, of all games? Inquisitions should inspire more dread. This was more like the League of Nations.

Your point is that, of course she would say so, because it applies to her and others of her ilk? I don't think that someone's background necessarily reflects on their choice of altruism or adopted cause. A rich person could only be paying lip service because such things are seen as socially acceptable, or popular: a socialite with her "pet causes" that she talks about over tea and biscuits with other socialites, humblebragging about how many urchins she helped that week. How is that any better?

I'm not a huge Sera fan or anything, but I thought that was an odd argument to make, that her efforts, and by extension those of other Jennys, have less meaning because of her origin.

I don't really hate any of the followers. The closest I get is occasionally annoyed by both Morrigan and Vivienne. Morrigan for her humansplaining (for Dalish PC) in Temple of Mythal, and Vivienne for her narcissism.

This is pretty much my experience with all three games. This is likely due to the fact that if I don't find any one character appealing for whatever reason I just leave them at base. Even Vivienne, who is the one follower that my Inquisitor gains disapproval with (I get the furniture scene!), I am content to just ignore her presence for the most part. The ONLY follower I have not recruited over all three games has been Iron Bull, and only because I have been able to come up with a suitable RP reason for doing so. I'm thinking of being a bit more choosy the next time I play DAO, however, particularly with Sten and Zevran.

But I never actually "hate" anyone.

I don't hate any of them in the context of the game but, personally I ccould not handle many of the companions or advisors for more that two minutes, some not even that long.

Sera - annoying, stupid, closed minded, short sighted, immature, just plain useless to me.

Vivienne - Concieted, snoot in the air, holier than tho snob that tries to shover her ideas and ways sown your throuat - she can get lost and take her false superiority with her.

Cassandra - too snippy, comes o0ff as rude or condescending even if she doesn't mean to. I avoid that type of people.

Cullen - tolerable as a friend perhaps but not one that discusses personal stuff. In game I like him, even romance him on my female characters but, personally if he got on about lyriumn, my reaction would be "Not my problem, get over it and stop whining to me about it."

Varric - the most tolerable to me personally, sure he tells wild stories, twist things to his benefit but, he isn't all high and mighty or anything.

Dorian - shallow, pretentious, clothing ******, false humility with false self deprecation. Annoying, he'd be more acceptable if he were just real instead of hiding all the negative stuff with vanity and jokes.

Solas - He's great most of the game but, then in Trespasser, he becomes the enemy, he lied, cheated, used everyone he knows. Needs to be taken out and shot like a rabid dog. I've got no place in my life for manipulative users.

Leliana - Better if softened, but still too quick to execute, to hard on herself and her people.

Blackwall - meh, not very talkative but, he'd be a good worker if I needed help with a chore I couldn't do alone. Useful and, yeah I'd cook dinner for him to get him to clean up that big tree that fell in the last storm. He'd be an acquaintance on friendly but not sociable terms.

Iron Bull : Another one I like in game but, would not like personally - drunkard, socialist (Qun comparison) or a traitor to his people, either is bad in my book. I'd be wary of him, he may stab me in the back at any moment, and he's too big to have someone that dangerous around.

Cole - another I like in game but, personally would find too uneducated, childish, simple minded to enjoy his company for long. My 14 yr old granddaughter is more mature than he or Sera either one, I couldn't handle either of them personally.

It's rather contradictory to start your thought off with the notion that Sera is insincere with her intent to help the Inquisitor, while following that with statements based off of things Sera herself actually tells you in order for you to know these things. She outright admits that she's in it to get things back to normal so she can do her own thing and possibly make money while doing it, with helping other people and the Inquisitor as a bonus. She then even admits about her own selfish curiosity (funny because she herself admits that it's selfish). As far as we can tell, she's been pretty forthcoming about her intentions. Just about the only thing she really refused to go into detail about is what she was up to in her youth.

The part that I find the most bothersome though is that bit about how it's a cheap argument to want to help a certain group if you're also part of that group. Like….wat? I guess it's just me and my total rejection that altruism is a thing, (I believe anything and everything has some degree of selfishness involved, be it concerns for material gain or simply emotional satisfaction), but it just seems wrong.
