Yeah, I like the Dwarfs too - that why I want some Dwarfs who aren't trying to win over the crowd so obviously. I like Varric, but to have him be the only Dwarf for the second game in a row? And they don't even go into his lore much this time, assuming most either already know it, or don't care. Every time something about Dwarfs comes up, he starts to explain and then says 'Ah... forget it, I don't care about Dwarf Culture really'.
I just want some Dwarfs who actually hold Dwarf values! I know in his own way, Varric does have some pride in his Dwarven heritage, but come on - can't we have just a few more perspectives? I know that surface Dwarfs are not the same as the 'real' (as they would see it) Dwarfs, and that without going underground you couldn't meet them or have any in your party. But for Bioware to to use that as an excuse to wave the white flag and say 'Well... guess that means no Dwarfs at all really... Sorry!' is a bit deflating.
Like I say, I thought all the other races got the shaft in this game. They barely feature and are hardly ever spoken of, only appearing in short bursts of 'Hey folks - its the Dalish! Give them a big hand! And heeeer'es the Qunari! See you next game fellas! And now heeer'es... etc etc.
But then this game's focus is squarely on one thing and one thing only - the rise of the Inquisition, and having this game basically be a King simulator. If you changed the name on the box to King;s Quest... whatever its up to now, and billed it as the new direction for that series, it would fit right in, with no changes necessary. This game is purely about delivering a 'You are an Adventurer King' simulator experience, and everything else (including the main story) takes very much a back seat. The various races and their cultures are just one element that get elbowed aside, so in that sense they're in the same boat as everything else.
