OK. I'd love a Mass Effect trilogy remaster as much as the next guy and ,since you don't actually need Bioware (Montreal is already deep into the next ME game and Edmonton is busy with the new IP), it could actually happen. Current gen remasters are becoming more and more common, Tomb Raider, The Last of Us, Halo, GTA:V, Sleeping Dogs, etc. There may be a few other noteworthy examples but I think those are some of the biggest ones. The main thing, in my opinion, is whether or not EA decides that the money necessary to deliver this would be worth it. For instance a GTA remaster was a no brainer, everyone knew it would get a current gen port eventually. But when it came out it was more than just a port. There were gobs of extra content, the most significant of which was the addition of first person pov.

Now in the interest of not getting sidetracked, I'll move on to Mass Effect. There are many things that could be improved upon, not hating on the games, just saying there is always room to make a game better. So I'll start with a list of things that would be fantastic but will not happen.

-Improved character creation- More variety, better looking default models, better hair, mostly the ability to make good looking, or at least interesting looking player characters. I was able to create a few half decent male Shepards but all my female attempts fell flat. This won't happen because of the extra money it would cost for only a little payoff.

-Additional Cut scenes-Yes, it would be awesome to get even a few extra minutes of battle sequences at the end, showing off all the assets we spent time gathering. I think there was a sprinkling of this in extended cut, but I only played through that once. Also, I'll roll this in here, some more meat on the front end. The prologue felt empty and rushed to me. Don't know if anyone else feels that way, but it wouldn't even require any extra dialogue from the main cast. Could be relatively easy.

-New Missions-A way to spend more time with the game, but in a new way.

-Redesign ME:1-Not necessarily a complete overhaul, just streamline and polish the combat a little, maybe retool the powers and abilities, more varied weapons and armor, etc.

OK, now some things that might happen.

-Improved textures- This goes without saying, if you don't make the games look better then what's the point. All the above examples have this in some capacity.

-All previous DLC/ All on one disc- Having every shred of DLC ever released for the trilogy all in one placed would be a major selling point. I'm talking everything from Pinnacle station to the alternative outfits to the Extended Cut. This would take very little effort, and would sway a lot of people. Since I don't have my 360 anymore or a gaming PC I have no way to play the trilogy anymore, and this saddens me.

-Bring ME:3 multiplayer to current gen-Not sure what this would take but I loved the mp component of that game. A massive breath of fresh air amongst all the Battlefields and Call of Dutys.

-Multiplayer abilities in single player-Allow us to use the multiplayer powers in our single player campaign. here were a lot of fun things to do, especially after all the DLC. The swords, Omni-shield and flamer just to name a few.

those first two things are a must have for me. ive me that and I'll buy it. Give me the other two and I'll pay extra. Also some bells and whistles, pre-order bonuses, etc. would be very nice.

All that being said, Mass Effect is more of a nostalgic deal for me at this point, I just want to remember it fondly, remember the good times, and leave them in the past. What I really want is the next game.

Pretty much everybody already mentioned what I'd want most. Just an update to ME1s combat to be a lot more responsive and cover system to be smoother. and less elevator load times on 1

Agree on the textures.

This, more online maps for ME3 multiplayer, and all the DLCs.

What everyone wants is a better ending to ME3. Anything else they do is wasted effort in my opinion.

Most people are probably indifferent about the endings, not to mention Bioware have stated many time they are sticking to guns regarding the endings the endings as they are with EC are here to stay. There will be no new ending content anyone expecting new endings in a HD re-release are only asking for disappointment.

''everyone''

It's kind of sad that you think that. I think you'd be suprised how many people actually liked the ending.

most on the internet hate it that much is very clear

no matter which gaming forums I go the ME ending is bashed and laughed at (lately on the TW forums)

But hey maybe somehow (though I doubt it) people in real life like it who knows?

its kind of silly that you think that many people liked the ending

most "casuals" who hated it when it was released probably just thought "well just another game" and moved on (some friends of mine did exactly that)

and of course its been a few years so I imagine many (who hated ME3's ending) will buy ME4 again its a new chapter (hell maybe even I will buy it)

I don't see why they'd even consider releasing a retail copy without the DLC, since they'd have to go through the hassle of migrating the DLC purchase infrastructure for all three games over to the One and PS4 for very little ROI.

I agree that it should be a no-brainer, but I just can't believe they will, I'll need to see it for myself

That's a blind statement from your part. You're seriously saying no one liked the ending? Come on, open your eyes. The person you're currently speaking with (that's me) loved the ending. Also, Bioware has already said that those who didn't like the ending are actually the minority. I'm not saying the difference between the two sides is high. Both could be very very close, but one is a little bit higher.

Though we already talked about that in another thread, there's no need to repeat the whole thing.

... and the Sopranos ending, and the Battlestar Galactica ending, and the LOST ending, and the How I Met Your Mother ending, and the Seinfeld ending, and the yadda yadda yadda. You'll always find hate for series finales of popular things.

what about Breaking Bad? sure some probably hate the finale but most like it
also Dexter is on another level than Sopranos or Lost which were more 50/50

and the hate has nothing to do with them being popular lol c'mon
it has to do with strange creative decisions during the finale that pissed many people off

I think people don't understand the difference between a remaster and a remake.  If the trilogy is remastered for next gen the differences are going to be of a technical nature (visually and audiably).  I am telling you right now there is going to be no story changes, no new companions, and no noticeable differences to gameplay.  All of which I am fine with btw because I love the trilogy as it is.

I'd just be happy if our Multiplayer manifest carried over to the remastered version, because I won't grind out everything again.

Oh, who am I kidding, I'm pretty sure I would...

Battlefield 4 does it but it's not cross platform.

That statement is never true for anything. I liked ME3's ending even before the EC DLC because it ended Shepard's story as advertised in a decent enough way(because truthfully there was no "good" way to do so). There is never a 100% agreed on idea with not only us gamer's but with human's as a whole. There are some scientist's who think science proves there is no god whereas others believe there is a god and the wonders science reveals to us is the proof.

The closest people usualy come to agreeing is the belief you can never trust a pollitician. :P

My Remaster Whistlist

Technology:

  • Physical Based Shading combined with Image Based Lighting
  • High Res Textures
  • Skin Shading
  • Cooler, detailed Landscapes in ME when we're driving the mako (with vegetation, more rocks and so)
  • No Cheap Sprites in the Intro and in London
  • Default ME3 Femshep Model in ME1 and ME2
  • Filmgrain in ME3
  • In case they shutdown the Multiplayer server, add the possibility to play without official servers (maybe LAN, maybe needing to type in the ip address of your friends, maybe starting own servers)

Story:

  • No Rachni Queen, if she did not survive ME1
  • Better DLC integration
  • Show at least some of our war assets in action (in cinematic movies)
  • More Harbinger in ME3
  • More crew-talks like in ME3 for ME1 and ME2
  • At least some more information to the Dark Emergy/aging Star plot (the Star in Haestrom, the Star at the Cerberus Station), It would be totally ok, if the aging is just a result of earlier experiments with the Crucible.

The Ending:

  • You don't have to create a new ending, just remaster the current one, so it doesn't look totally rushed anymore -- something like in the following quote would be epic!

Original Quote made by Orikon (see original Post)

Let me show you a picture from the art book:
    Matt-Rhodes-Catalyst.jpg

That was the original decision chamber. Much better then the A,B,C chamber with mysterious pathways coming out of nowhere, right?

In the original design, all the Reapers were even supposed to break off from the battle with Sword and turn towards Shepard to watch his decision.

That's what I'm talking about. If the Catalyst wasn't so rushed,if the encounter with him was given actual development time or if the devs simply put more thought into what they were doing he wouldn't cause such a huge outcry. Not to mention that having Anderson or squadmates with you Mass Effect 1-style would make things much better as well.

The meeting with the Catalyst just needed a much better design and more creativity outside of just "Yeah look,I control all the Reapers, the Crucible just docked and here are your A,B or C choices. Don't ask any questions."

The idea was fine, the execution was not.

  • Maybe just a better explanation (see great article from 2014), where the ending doesn't get altered, just better explained
  • Or at least replace starchild with harbinger :)
  • Give us the "Yes, we did it!" feeling :)
The whole "Speculation for everyone" idea just leaves us with "WTF, was that?" feeling.
  • If ME4 is chronological after ME3, modify the ending of ME3, so ME4 fits

I know, this won't happen, but one can still dream :)
