Why? One talent: Opportunity Knocks.

Combined with Looked Like it Hurt, Leaping Shot and a decent crit rate, it's basically a permanent Fire Flask - which I hear is pretty good! Also very Hidden Blades proc friendly.

Oh, and Elemental Mines are actually pretty decent against high-armor opponents (and to debuff groups of enemies, obviously).

Still can't compete with the burst of TC, but the sustained DPS is comparable. Just make sure to stand against a wall ;)

So imo all that's really needed is are Bianca arms that take the lack of Masterwork crafting into account (shame on you Bioware for such a rookie balancing mistake!), which should be easy enough to add...

Artificer has insane sustainable damage.

I tried a mine spam build out but it was impossible to land the mines with much consistentcy unless they were tightly clumped from an abyss pull even with my main tempest critting non stop.

Bianca is fine, especially after Skyhold when you can constantly buy schematics and upgrades from Bonny Sims (Skyhold vendor near the horsemaster's barn).

Also if you complete the Tomb of Fairel questline in Hissing Wastes you can get the enhanced aiming and arms parts.

The DPS ends up very comparable to crafted bows and as always, if you're diligent about finding schematics crafted weapons always outpace in-game loot at the respective level.

Would that also work with spinning blades?

Incorrect.

I haven't tried it, but I don't see why not; I have, however, tried other melee rogue variations and consider them strictly inferior to ranged builds just because of how much this game hates melee characters.

You said what?

haha, yep.

I haven't gotten my Varric to quite that level yet, but I think you could shave off a few more seconds by using upgraded poison weapons (+25% skill dmg) and weaving in some Long Shots to use the +200% buff from Leaping Shot.

Upgraded Stealth might also be a DPS increase but would be very button-mashy.

You're right about the lack of a masterwork slot on Bianca. Masterwork enchantments are really powerful. In fact, masterworks are one

You're right about the lack of a masterwork slot on Bianca. Masterwork enchantments are really powerful. In fact, masterworks are one the reasons why I think dual-wield rogues and sword and shield warriors are especially powerful. They're the only specs to get three masterwork slots.

And the more I play, the less I think the game is anti-melee. Melee just has a bit more of a learning curve. There are a few clever anti-ranged mechanics in the game that I didn't even notice until I played my Mage. Arcane Horrors, Revanants, and Dragons are especially annoying as ranged.

Not to mention that melee specs have the highest dps in the game. The only ranged specs that can compete are archers with longbow of the Griffon and Rift Mages. But even then, I think Dual Wield rogues and two handed Reaver's still win out on single target dps.

I don't think mines are meant to be spammed, they are more of a niche tool (aoe, tight quarters, very large targets, pre-combat setup)

Yes, leaping shot spam is far more effective if that video is any indication. but this doesnt make varric feel too unique since my tempest can do that too but also stop time on a whim and perform insta gib focus.

Can someone please explain to me what happened in that vid?

Have killed a couple of dragons so far, but all those fights ended after about 10 to 15 minutes of intense fighting, and now I see Varric (who is in my party) kill a dragon in 15 seconds.

What am I doing wrong?

He is stacking high crit chance in conjunction with opportunity knocks(cooldown reduced on crit) and looked like it hurt(stam on crit).

They can be spammed but you have to stand just out of melee range to make use of them.
With about 50℅ crit chance they can not only really hurt mobs but any stamina lost is immediately regained. Follow up with Leaping Shot and then repeat the process until everything is dead.

While crafted bows have better stats than Bianca, Varric is probably the most versatile rogue companion and no slouch on the DPS front.

Varric has all of them unlocked (we're talking about the passives in the Artificier tree, not?).

But all he does in my game is getting heavily damaged by the Tornado move of the dragon, and I never seen him do damage close to that in the vid (Bianca is up to level VI, with enhanced lvl III upgrades).

Are there abilities I have to set to preferred for him, I'm unaware of?

It is simply optimizing your gear to achieve the most damage possible:

maxed out bianca with as high a crit as you can get (need great bear hide)
Superior prowler armor with prowler armor arms for the utility: 8 leather

grand duchess helm or crafted helm with +dex

superb amulet of dex or cunning

superb ring of attack

superb ring of armor penetration

You need looked like it hurt from the poison tree and maybe cheap shot for armor sundering.

Thank you Exalus. I believe I have almost everything you mentioned (not sure on the Grand Duchess helmet). Will take a look tomorrow after work.

And OT: Duelist; it's always nice to see a pic of Yvonne ;)

You said what?

100% critical chance or only luck??

they are all critics...

What is sad is to that the game let people use this ability to attack when i bet it was originally made to escape melee enemies coming too close

On Topic

Bianca > better bow schematic but if you craft the bow with 10% better stats, then bow > bianca
