Uhuh, all people should do a med check before having kids, if your health is not in tip/top condition then you should be banned from having kids, because it might lead to health deficiencies.

And of course people do incest on purpose and will continue to do so for generations, not because it happens that they fell in love.

I agree with the first part of your post.  Incest is not ok, even if you get "fixed" and there is no way you could have a kid from it.....its not something to be praised...well at least not yet.  I'm sure in 10 years it will be "ok" as will many other things.

There are a lot of people in this world.  You don't need a family member to find someone you have that special connection with and they just stand out to you among all other people.  You have to make the decision to explore or to deny it beyond that.

Eugenicists would argue it is more about the offspring, if you could prevent a child the discomfort and suffering of being mentally challenged, or genetically harmed, would you not?

And then of course you could save other people misery by avoiding Joffreys.

1st, Incestquisition, well played, Anne Lady.

2nd, way to understand the lore, connect the dots.

3rd...I'm sorry if I'm politically insensitive, or even just politically unaware, but can homosexuality be incestuous? Surely it wouldn't really matter, right? Unless you can produce offspring from such a union that would have disadvantageous recessive genes or whatever, which suggests a.) magic or b.) you're really good at intercourse in ways I cannot imagine.

Lol, when did I say incest was not ok in my book? First part of my post was about prohibiting people with health problems from having kids.

If my sibling would happen to be my soulmate I would go for it and wouldn't give a damn.

I'm really not going to venture further into the topic as it is going to be discussing politics and religion, and that is now what we are supposed to be doing on these forums. I'm just going to say that in my honest opinion, having incest as a taboo is a ridiculously bullsh*t stance, and I'll leave it at that.

It's just sad that so many people have difficulties in life because of who they love.

I am not a person that wants to have kids in the first place, so to me the main thing is just love. You want to discourage people from having defect offsprings do so - warn them of the dangers, encourage them not to have kids, advice them to adopt instead, but it's still their right. Just don't tell them that there's something wrong with who they love.

Fair enough.  We can just agree to disagree and I respect that.  Truth be told I don't have much interest in talking about it further either.  I don't honestly think I could understand your point of view anyways.

I don't have a problem with consensual adults, that is their business. And just like abortion, they can weigh the decision as to have a child or not, and what the risks are. None of my business. Just playing devil's advocate.

Compared to stuff that happened between real life European nobility, third or fourth cousins doesn't even begin to count as incest. It's valid in Thedas too, Gaspard offered to marry Celene (his cousin) and thre was no serious objections on that front.

Besides, one of the biggest reasons for the incest taboo (besides the inherent yuck factor) is that it's detrimental to having healthy children. Somehow I don't see that being a big problem with anyone who's sleeping with Dorian.

Yes, you committed incest. Go out and chant thirty-two "Andraste loves me" followed by two hours of self-flagellation and you should be okay.

Happened all the time in Medieval time. That what made them so sick apparently.

Not nearly as much as you would believe, it was and is illegal to marry your second or third cousins in both the orthodox and catholic churches without approval of the pope and they were even more strict in the early middle ages when you weren't permitted to marry your sixth cousin. A sizable number of nobles and even royalty had their marriages forcibly annulled by the pope for marrying their cousins.

Don't know about you or where you live but place where I live incest is incest!

It doesn't matter is it cousins or whatever or how distant they are...it still considered to be incest.

The reason for prohibition of cousin marriage is due to chance of birth defects.

Not where I live. Distance does make a difference. In the US, 26 states allow 1st cousin marriage, some require that there will be no offspring, some require genetic testing first. First cousin offspring have a 4-6% chance of genetic defect while the general population has a 2-3% risk. 1st cousins have a 94% chance of having normal children.

Second cousins have little if any increased chance if any birth defects.

And no, the Bible does not list marriage between cousins as forbidden.

I'm not sure about Canada and Europe, but I read one article that said cousin marriage is legal.

26 states allow cousin marriage in the US, though some restrictions and rules may apply per state law.

2nd cousins have

Most likely distantly related as was normal for noble families in Europe or at least larger countries such as France or Holy Roman Empire. England and eventually UK also.

No wincest in Inquisition.

wincest lol supernatural fans everywhere (am I right?)

but yeah, you are correct. Dorian explains there is no incest for their familial connection is so far back in history it's pretty much non-existant.

Then I'm about to wreck your brain. Everyone on the planet is at least your 50th cousin.

The thing with the Pavus and Trevalyn families is just that, since they're nobility, they can trace back those ancestral roots.

I don't have to buy gifts for all of them, do I? Christmas shopping is bad enough as it is...

Did they buy you gifts? Of course not, the animals. I say you just buy yourself a kitten, and consider the resulting smiles a gift to the world.

Don't sweat it, OP.  As they say down in Arkansas, the family that lays together stays together.

So... you know it doesn't really matter if you aren't going to have children, right? And even if your PC were a woman, I wouldn't be surprised if closer familial pairings were made in Tevinter all the time in order to maintain the magic in the bloodline.

At any rate, the Trevelyans are distant relations, Dorian even has to go through his boyhood mnemonics in order to remember this fact. I think you're clear, OP.

If you're that anal about that distantly-related levels of incest, then you better not have sexual relations with anyone in your country, or probably even your continent.

It mostly has to do with the genetic deficiencies you create in offspring, which leads to problems in the species that could lead to extinction within a probability margin.

So would be irrelevant in homosexual relationships?

Irrelevant in all relationships. Relationship =/= procreation.

The freaky part about this is that my first Inquisitor looked more like Magister Halward's son than Dorian does.

I was laughing, thinking to myself, 'Dorian are you sure we're  only *distantly* related?"
