Don't know about you or where you live but place where I live incest is incest!

It doesn't matter is it cousins or whatever or how distant they are...it still considered to be incest.

I'm not sure if you're overthinking, or not thinking at all here, but the short answer is no, Dorian and your Quizzy are not indulging in what is recognized as incest.

Well, if you were truly bothered by it, you wouldn't have went along with the romance in the first place since Dorian tells you about this early in the game, so it's not like you two engaged in the naughty and then he goes "Oh, by the way, we're (very) distant cousins".

.

So you first ask if something can be defined as incest, implying you are unsure if it does, and then dismiss any notions that don't fit a rather flawed outlook on what you think incest actually is.

Interesting...

If you define incest as "we shared a common ancestor 300 years ago" then I really can't see anything wrong with it. It's not incest IMO. If you think ****** your dad or sister is acceptable...I'll most likely projectile vomit on you if I see you making out with your family member. *shudder*

Distantly related isn't incest. If he's not your brother and father it isn't incest

I'm just going to say that in my honest opinion, having incest as a taboo is a ridiculously bullsh*t stance, and I'll leave it at that.

It's just sad that so many people have difficulties in life because of who they love.

Well, there's a substantial risk that there will be a victim, which is why it should be criminalized.

Bear with me for a moment.

If there isn't any law, there is nothing the society can do to help any such victim. The law is the tool and foundation for all actions. Which is why there should be a law. Because then there is a victim of a crime.

There are two different kind of potential victims in an incest situation. Primarily, the weaker family member, who is under wrong guidance, heavy duress, influence or pressure from the stronger family member. Secondarily, the eventual offspring, which we know will have a very strong likelihood of genetic defects.

You may say, well but what about truly mutual relationships between truly equal partners?

Well, those are rare, since incest is more often about sex and possession than love. But they do exist. If brother and sister are close in age, and separated during a certain period of childhood - don't remember exactly, but I think it's 4-10 or something like that - they are in danger of falling hopelessly in love with each other, if they meet later in life. Tough luck. But since falling in love is mostly a chemical insanity that only lasts for 2½-4½ years, I think they should just steel themselves and tough it out. The incest taboo will help them.

If they do still feel the same when they're into their late 30'ies to 50'ies, i.e. responsible adults, they can just sterilize themselves and go share a house or apartment. And live their lives together. It's done. Keep the facade up, no hanky panky in public, and the police have no reasons to break down doors in the middle of the night.

This is a much better solution, than trying to champion that incest should join the LGBT-rights movement. Which, quite frankly, would be crazy.

I was expecting so much more from this thread. I remember all the "I WANT TO ROMANCE BETHANY!!!!111one" threads when DA2 came out. :P

Now those threads had the BSN spirit of old.

So here is thing.

I've done a little research on this subject to see how distant cousins are these two and here is most what I got.

  • Few sites that I suspect are responsible for you taking this as incest.
  • Wiki that does say that Trevelyan and Pavus family are related though sadly it doesn't give exact information of how "distant" are these two.
  • Even if they are not much distant it is well...medieval! And back then cousin incest did not count. In fact in medieval times your brother and sister almost didn't count so lol It is all Medieval ;)

Point is it doesn't matter is he too much distant cousin like 500 years old distant or just simple 50 years...point is it is Medieval! And back then cousin was equal to the stranger when it came to hooking up.

Many modern people share a common ancestor.

It's simple genetics. For instance, 0.5% of the world's male population are related to Genghis Khan. That's over twelve million people.

We're all keeping it in the family. It's a matter of degrees. No, I don't think bonking Dorian is incest. It's merely a fun moustache ride.

Abuse is abuse, and there are laws against abuse, and it works for such cases as abuse in family. You don't need 50 different laws covering all the same things, that are just worded differently. Rape is rape, no matter sexuality or relation, and there are also laws against child molestation. There is literally nothing to be gained by criminalizing incest.

You don't need to be separated to fall in love, some people live all their lives together and are in love. Also if you don't find incest acceptable then don't do it, what other people do with their lives shouldn't really be your business, if they are consensual adults.

Regardless of if incest is right or wrong (not touching that with a 10ft pole), the birth defect argument is a little weak.

A single first generation incest pairings have a lower likelihood for defects than a normal woman over 40 having a child. Arguing against one while actively helping the other (through IVF etc) is a bit crazy.

The main reason the mutant baby idea is around is because of multi-generational pairings and frankly books and movies.

I disagree strongly. Incest is a much more black & white situation, which makes much stronger legal protection for the victim.

Because there usually is a victim, even if lawyers and testimony in a difficult situation can most likely muddle the waters considerably.

You don't need to be separated to fall in love, some people live all their lives together and are in love.

Well, if "people live all their lives together and are in love", then it sounds much more like an unhealthy situation of possession and dependence to me, than "love". Kinda like something in a religious sect or something. I think I stand by my anti-incest law, as well as my arguments for it.

As for truly consenting, and independently responsible, I think I've already covered that.
