DAO was pretty cool but disappointing, DA2 was kinda shitty and DAI is unplayable.

DA2 did a few things better: more armor designs, ambient music always playing, and companions interacting with each other and NPCs. DA:I did most other things better.

Not even close, only thing that DA2 is better at then DAI is Sarcastic Hawke and Better Load Times. Everything else DAI is better although DAI is not better then Origins.

Unplayable?  I understand that is your opinion and your vote for this thread.  I offer my vote for the opposite and stress that I utterly disagree, and I think many games and certainly most game critics agree with me, DAI, at a minimum, is playable.  If this game is unplayable I'm not sure what RPG would be playable.

DA2 was the superior game in my opinion, I enjoyed it more that Origins even.

KOTOR2 was a superior game to KOTOR1, also in my opinion.

But it's mostly the story I'm looking at.

You people are just going to have to accept that people like things that you don't.

Although I will say I enjoyed the dialogue a lot in DA2. But that was all sarcastic Hawke and the fact that there was VO at all.

It's funny how you and I both disliked DA2, but for fairly different reasons.

We seem to want different things from our CRPGs, and DA2 failed both of us.

A bit harsh on DA2 for my part. I would have said 6; played through to end 5 times and...enjoyed, but did not love it.

Might have pushed Origins to an 8.5 and haven't yet finished Inquisition, but am loving it so far and have no objections to the score given.

I couldn't make it to the end of DA2. I tried 3 times.

DAO may well be worth slightly more than 8.

Since we're playing the rating game:

DAO: 9.5/10

DA2: 6/10

DAI: 8/10

Can I play too?

DAO: 9/10

DA2: 6/10

DAI: 7/10

In spite of those rating, I have to say I enjoyed DA2 a lot more than DAI simply because I found the combat in DAI so utterly tedious. DA2's combat was at least fast and dynamic, whereas DAI's is neither actiony nor tactical.

DAO: 8/10

DA2: 7/10

DAI: 9/10

All played on console, which tilts the combat in Inquisition's favor and hurts Origins.

Hold on. DA2 had more armour? That can't be right. DAI reuses all the DA2 armour assets. That's where you get all the race restriction problems (all armour is for humans, then elves, then dwarves, and qunari just get the 3 brand new DAI models).

You're right on the other two. Especially the music.

Absolutely. It had enough features to keep me interested at a time when RPGs that I like were rare but with the recent renewal in RPG design I cannot see myself replaying it.

Similarly, I find it very interesting how much we both like DAI. But then I always thought - ever since I played DAO - that a similar game with PC VO would be great. Little did I know that Bioware would also add in many of my favourite elements from BG1.

And since we're chatting, I should add that I could never have appreciated how right you were about cutscenes until DAI removed the cutscene camera for most NPC interactions. I still like it when the action requires models to move in ways not readily available to the engine or when the emotional weight of a scene could benefit from cinematography but I'm now indifferent to it for the vast majority of RP content.

I'd probably give both DAO and DAI 8.5 (though for somewhat different reasons) and maybe a 5 for DA2 as 4 feels a bit harsh.

After playing Telltale's games, DA2 really feels like a mix between them and some poorly designed encounters.

The sad part is that IMO DA2 had a great underlying idea for combat mechanics. It just fell flat because of all the other problems with the game.

Hmm yeah if DA2 was like the Wolf Among Us I'd probably enjoy it quite a bit more (well, if the dialogue style was also more like DAI, since there was some pretty frustrating parts about that, too) There were few fights in DA2 that felt entertaining but unfortunately only few.

edit: maybe BioWare could get Telltale to make a game version of Hard in Hightown :P

The paraphase design in DA2 was ridiculous. Putting aside the actual accuracy, the policy of not repeating words was not well thoughout out. English has words that just don't have synonyms, and even those that do don't carry the same meaning.

A Telltale Hard in Hightown (narrated by Varric like an audiobook, i.e. he reads for all characters) would be amazing.

The forums have been lacking in quality trolls for a while...maybe they're all playing and enjoying DA:I?

We just need another mass effect 3 ending

that brought trolls and butthurt the likes of which I have not seen since

other than Elspeth's fate in Theros, but that's in MTG Lore Threads

and you know, I liked Dragon Age 2

Hardly. In most ways, now that I'm done with all of my issues getting it to work in the first place, I consider it far superior to DA II. The only way in which I don't is combat (and related character-building mechanics), and even then, it's a wash. As a roleplaying game, which is the most important thing to me in this case, it's very nearly on a level with DA:O. Knock out the paraphrasing and it'd be most if not all the way there. In fact, I think there may be more instances where you can react in more different ways to things, so with that done it might well come out ahead.

My ratings would be as follows, though DA:I's -- being as I've not finished it yet -- is still subject to change:

DA:O - 9/10 (-1 for generally not being perfect)
DA II - 4/10 (-2.5 mechanical/gameplay issues, -2 roleplaying hindrances, -1.5 story issues)
DA:I - 7.5/10 (-2.5 mechanical/gameplay annoyances)

I'm not sure I'd give any game a straight 10, really. Some would come very close.

For anyone who has only played non-human characters, that may well come off looking as though DA II had more armour. The race restrictions are rather frustrating.
