1) Do you support mods or do you think they "break" the immersion game developers went for?
Yes, I support mods. Breaking immersion is entirely based on the mod and the player's perception. I find that even some of the appearance mods can break immersion as I notice that someone is impaled by hair. Their own or someone else's
Seriously, the ones that break immersion are typically the ones that do it so blatantly that they don't even pretend to be immersive. You just have to read the description and decide what you find acceptable.
2) If you do like them, what are your must have recommendations?
The fixes are a must for me - Qwinn's Unofficial DAO Fixpack is a must have. ZDF Dialogue is another that I really like. My favorites are probably the mods that add quests.
3) Since this game is based on imports, do some of the mods (new talent trees, romance for all, etc) corrupt the save files? For example, there is a mod for male characters to romance Alistair - if you import that in DA2, what is the result?
The game is only based on imports if you want it to be. I found that some NPCs would magically heal from being beheaded was one of those things that would 100% break immersion for me so I never bothered to create an import version with all of the 'right' decisions. If I had wanted to romance Alistair with a male GW.... I would have just done it. The Alistair that appeared (or not) in DA2 would have been unrelated to MY Alistair.
Edited: I do tend to stay away from mods that alter Core resources (unless they are fixing bugs) because they tend to be incompatible with so many other mods and sometimes are incompatible with unmodded DAO!
