So I just finished another run thru as a Mage and am thinking about trying rogue or warrior.

I wanted to go rogue but have read a lot of people complaining that two dagger rogues are really week and ineffective in DAI.

What do you suggest?

DW Rogues just require proper positioning and pretty much constant player control.  The AI doesn't play them well, but you the player should be just fine.

DW tempest rogue is probably the single strongest spec in the game. Not only can you spam lvl 3 Mark of the Rift at 30 seconds cooldown, but Thousand Cuts and Lightning Flask makes any boss absolutely trivial, including dragons.

I was cruising through Emprise du Lion on nightmare at lvl 13, rarely using potions. Gave great exp and items, but the downside was that any content after that was completely gone. Even as a Knight Enchanter, I never felt that.

Dw rogue tempest are also really strong without abusing bugs. All the potions are amazing.

Dw rogues depend on not getting hit. Using stealth to break agro, and evade to dodge attacks. They do ridiculous damage and are capable of dispatching even nightmare opponents in one burst before combat even begins.

Warriors are fun. Id avoid two handeded though. They appear to be more about timing blocks and counters and managing guard. The reaver looks like the most fun by far.

If you were abusing that bug, then no wonder you were "cruising" through EDL.

Warrior is a lot more forgiving due to their guard mechanic. Rogues have to avoid catching any aggro in order to be effective, which is not something you can really just leave on auto-pilot. My understanding is that warrior is going to be more effective early game, but DW rogue scaling is just ridiculous and no other class can keep up with them later on.

As others have pointed out, it's just that the AI sucks at using DW rogues effectively.  You have to control the DW rogue for it to be really effective, but that should be fine if it's your character.  Of course, you could always go archer.  I'm having a lot of fun with my Tempest archer!

I find that the best companions to leave entirely up to the AI are the weapon & shield characters, so I haven't been tempted to play as one myself--otherwise, I'd only end up controlling my own character about 10% of the time!  I was having big fun as a 2-handed Reaver, though, but then I rolled an archer just to see what it was like and got hooked!  I'll probably finish my Reaver playthrough after my archer.

Of course, mages are big fun, too, but I don't have to tell you that!  :D

I'm currently doing a DW Rogue myself... Started on hard, dropped down to normal after much frustration. A few things you should know before starting, if you decide on rouge:
- All melee enemies have AOE attacks, in other words you need to be perfectly behind an enemy otherwise you'll get rekt. You simply cannot engage enemy champions, as they have 360 degree swings.

- Your damage will probably suck unless you're flanking. Twin Fangs hits like a tissue if you're not flanking... Once you get an awesome dagger though (Head to the Hissing Wastes ASAP to get the best dagger south of the Logging Camp) this becomes less of an issue.

- You're squishy. Other melee classes (KE, Warriors) generate guard/barrier through attacking. You don't. And you're not invulnerable (or even safe) in stealth... So, get some Fade Touched Onyx/Obsidian/Silverite ASAP so you start generating guard on hit. Since you attack so fast, they'll really help and you'll stop hogging the potions.

In the end, I'm enjoying DW Rogue now that the difficulty is on normal and I've got that 320 DPS 3 Guard on hit dagger. I can one-shot most enemies with flanking attacks and I feel like a ninja. Early levels suck though. You might enjoy it, try it at least. I would say that DW rogues are the hardest class to play as though; no room for error until you get guard, and even then a full guard won't fully block one attack.

Evading aoe is easy with evade. Its even easier with ice or lightning flasks. Throwing daggers can be spammed with a fire flask. Its not hard to get right in the thick of a battle and come out unscathed. Just make use of the survival skills rather then focusing all attention on dps.
