Its the best. Imo if you want to make best use of it and maximize your gold/time ratio, go templar, wrath of heaven and spell purge combo, and only play that to collect gold on threatening until you have good 20+ rare/uniques of other items. With that weapon you can do threatening at level 1 np, just autoattack, use shift attack cancellation for shielded enemies while pressing down attack, and win the game in your sleep.

That is pretty much as good as it gets for Weapon + Shield builds, due to stat distribution.

This is the problem with 100% random loot. You just trivialized routine and threatening on your second day playing. Have fun salvaging one handed weapons.

I dont know. I have Song of the Marshes, and I feel like Caliban is more suited to crowd control and is situational, whereas the high level axes have about 30 higher DPS and even give you a crit chance/bonus. That means you'll need to be surrounded by at least two enemies to even get the same DPS as my axe. 

 

Good luck seeing how far that heal on kill gets you when fighting Demon Commander.

 

Oh, and with the buggy and poorly designed nature of this game, I doubt your abilities get higher damage based on how many enemies surround you though I could be wrong.

I prefer Dwarven Crusher on my Templar for the giant explosions of doom when comboing and the Firm Tournament Axe is better on the lego given its higher crit chance and hit rate. 

 

Its a very solid weapon though, congrats on getting such a good 1h so early on.

Get the Templar, put the Caliban on it and go for Payback Strike, Horn Of Valor, Wrath Of Heaven and Spell Purge. Congratulations, you are now ready for Threatening and Perilous. I'd recommend playing on the Orlesian Chateau, since the enemies are grouped up tighter which makes for more efficient nuking with WoH + SP combo.

 

There are two very good axes which are arguably better for the Legionnaire, since they have higher crit and faster attack speed. There's also a mace with 75% dmg explosion on kill which works quite well with the Templar's combo.

 

By the way, the Caliban's attack speed is fastest when you animation cancel after the first strike. Press the LMB for auto attack and press shift every time you hit an enemy to cancel the animation.

I got this weapon on my 4th day and thought that I was way too lucky   

But seriously, this is a top tier weapon that transforms the Templar into a rampage beast. While using it, my Templar's Wrath of Heaven + Spell Purge combo hits for about 4 to 5k AOE damage, but I've seen it going over 9k. Over nine f...cking thousand, on a character that is supposed to be a tank. I wish I had taken a screen shot.
Also there is the Healing bonus on top of that, 16% per kill if I am not mistaken. Anytime you combo next to a cluster of enemies you go back to full health. It is a ticket to Perilous, as long as you have a decent team.
I haven't got many good Unique items yet, but the Caliban is by far the one I cherish the most. The jewel of my inventory.

I have gotten some nice stuff overall. Caliban, the staff Mindchill, a level 22 Dwarven Shield, Hosberger Twainer and an amulet of superb dexterity. No good bows or daggers though.

Stardusk, I am a fan of your ME3MP solo vids!  Also, if you haven't determined already, the Caliban is a Best-in-class item, and the 16% heal on kill is so powerful, it transforms the templar completely and makes the legionnaire truly unstoppable.

This is sort of the oft not talked about other side of the coin. What to do when you hit the RNG lottery so early on? Don't stop 'til you get enough?
