a dragon obviously, like the one under Winterfell
Man I wish we could have upgraded that library. Put an assistant in it or something. Same with that big room near it.
Skyholdception?Skyhold is under Skyhold. And possibly another Skyhold under that.
This is one of the reasons that I think a Skyhold history DLC is forthcoming. There's a lot about the Inquisition's place of business that is just unknown - a lot of theories, nothing solid. I mean, it's prime real estate, just sitting out there in the middle of the Frostbacks? No one claimed it for decades or centuries? No one but Solas had the tales of it before now? And just what was its purpose?
I really think that examining Skyhold's history is necessary for the Inquisition.
Something that really stood out to me one my first playthrough is that the keep has raised banners/flags when you approach it from the first time. So I was really baffled that the place was not occupied... I really expected that you had to kick out the current residents. Why would it have banners otherwise?

I'm assuming dirt or some form of stone would be under Skyhold. It has to have been built upon something.
No, but really, the origins of Skyhold are for the most part pretty mysterious. I'd like to see them expand upon its history.
The Hinterland's 12th mosaic piece. @.@

That was kind of just sweep under the rug...so to speak. I know they said it was previously owned and all, but they really kept it vague! I think the Blacksmith said it was made for something really big and there is a lot of heat coming from below?? I saw water....lol!

Perhaps, that's also a reason to the final battle not happening at Skyhold.

I so agree with you!

My thoughts exactly! It drove me "nutters" that the beautiful hidden office/library remained in pretty webs! wth! That large room with the dwarven statues....what does it mean and what was it for? What I could of done with that!!! lol
I was going to mention the creepy snowman head in the black top hat that plays music box music in a minor key. That's what's under Skyhold if you're unlucky enough to fall through the hole in reality (or game geometry).

If I recall the blacksmith dialogue properly, the heat comment was saying that something had previously been in there that generated a lot of heat and that portions of the room had been taken heat much greater than you could ever get in a forge. My take from what he said was that the undercroft was formerly a dragon nest/rookery considering the giant intentional hole in the wall. The question is which of the two former residents used the undercroft to keep a dragon. The ancient elves or TI....if it was the elves then....well that implies something...how do I word this....earth shattering I guess? Because it is implied that the form of the dragon was reserved for gods and their servants in one of the translated texts from the Temple of Mythal.....so an elven site that includes a location for a dragon to enter likely was a place frequented by either an Elvish god or their closest followers. Which would make Skyhold one of, if not the, most important Elvish location that we have come across in the games.
Alternatively, if it was made into a dragon port by the TI....I have no idea if there is any significance there. Did TI ever actually tame dragons? I can't recall any specific references, but that doesn't mean a whole lot.
Side note: I was very disappointed I didn't get to keep my dragon in the Undercroft with my blacksmith and Dagna....also disappointed I didn't get to keep him in general.

If you recruit Frederic of Serault, his war table mission has him bring back some dragon eggs he then proceeds to incubate in Skyhold... which sounds like an absolutely horrible idea, that surprisingly, absolutely no-one seemed to pay any attention towards?

I have been wondering about the explosion from the prison that left it too unstable to repair. Who was held there and perhaps escaped? Solas, Mythal, Anduril? I guessed the undercroft had likely been used to forge the orbs the Gods used as foci. Was June imprisoned and forced to labor for the other Gods?
I hope we get more of Skyhold's history in DLC or future games.
And I desperately want to clean up that library nook!

Yea bio has generally been terrible at cinematic consistency. Stupid space fights in Mass effect is one. But yes a LOT of their cinematics are face palm worthy as they break their own lore and setting A LOT.
Blizzard does cinematics well. I will give them that, hell even CDPR as well.
I do believe its their "gods" that went bonkers and they got themselves locked up for it. Tevinter came, elves called for help, but nope, they're out of commission.
Spoiler
I think this is the case as well, going by Solas's comments about the place. He says it's seen a lot of war, and was originally called Tarasyl'an Tel'as, meaning "The Place Where The Sky Was Held Back". That name would really makes sense if that translates to: this is the fortress where we created the Veil to keep the Fade (and maybe the gods) at bay.
