define "gaming PC".

One you can use to play games.

EDIT: I know where this is going. Play your typical game released in the last few years, I mean. Not Minesweeper.

Here we go ...

Whatever, I've done all I can to help, I'm out. Have fun everyone.

Calm down. No one's raging.

This is off-topic.

I anticipated that a beat late, read my edit.

Unrelated: I wonder why my games aren't under my profile picture. What the hey, Bioware.

Edit: Whoa, am I the only one that has all these weird mod features like [REDACTED]CP and Topics under [REDACTED]? This is so odd.

DoubleEdit: Hmm. You have to play a game logged into Origin, but I've done that, with almost all of the games listed. Weird. Oh well.

The Windows Update is what broke my drivers.

In that case, just do it yourself. LOL

I would. The fact that I'm downsampling every game I play at max settings (except DA I and Unity) doesn't mean that's necessary for a gaming PC.

Whenever someone asks me a question like that, it is very obvious that nothing positive or useful will ever come out of it.

Like arguing for the sake of arguing, it is very pointless. So I usually just ignore it and let others take the bait.

Really, it's not bad at all if you're calm and state things reasonably, and don't get worked up.

I've waded into the most sensitive topics on this board and had decent conversations with people who disagree completely with me, because I approached it like a real discussion and explained myself and didn't get things get emotional and all that jazz.

I just can't be bothered. It's not worth the effort.

I will if I feel like browsing the 'net and not doing much of anything and pushing off figuring out how to use Unity.

Otherwise I'm there with you. But if I'm on the BF, I'm here to waste time.

Gaming PC is something that can run current year games at high settings (not ultra) at least on 30fps.

I used to be annoyed by it too, but then I figured he's just being nice to the people that can't see well...

And to myself. Your Arial size 12 makes me eyes hurt.

Anyway, my graphics card is the ATI (ancient AMD?) Mobility Radeon HD 4500 Series (probably 4520, if I remember rightly from the little sticker). The dedicated memory is of 512 MB, if that matters.

Oh! Just found the current driver version! It is 8.56.1.16

For the record, I already erased the drivers with the AMD Cleanup Tool. I have no idea on how to install the older driver. I'm thinking of doing a complete system reset. It has solved all my problems in the past.

If the problem is entirely with the card and not with the drivers then I don't think it's going to help.

I know. Which is why I will do that to confirm.

So, I figured I'd do some non-complicated observation, like I used to do before, and I've uncovered interesting things.

I've realized that so far... it only freezes exclusively on Youtube at night. I tried it on various alternate video players, on Vimeo, DailyMotion and even various porn sites. I even tried it on Youtube this very morning. Like 10 seconds ago.

IT DID NOT FREEZE.

Does anyone have brain left to take conclusions? 'Cause I'm all out of it.

Have you looked up inside the case and checked the cooling fans? Could be they are dusted up pretty bad if you didn't clean them during all those years and might just be that they are all clogged up with dust and the GPU is running hot. Open the case and clean the fans (not with the vacuum cleaner!).

''Open the case''

I gotta stop at that part. I'm not doing anything without experience.

That isn't too hard and unless you throw it everywhere without care, nothing's going to break. I don't presume you still have warranty that you might void opening the case. Just look up the built from the manual or search the internet for your model and you can easily see what parts not to touch if you just want to look at the fans.

Or you could bring it to a repair shop, but that will cost you a good deal and if something's really broken, a new one is cheaper than repairing in most cases, or you pay a hefty sum for something you might do yourself for free. Your stuff, your decision. I'm just giving you options to look at.

^If you try opening the case be sure you remember which screws go to which. Often times laptops have various screw lengths that if placed in the wrong places can damage your laptop.

All and all though, it should not be too hard. Especially if you got a manual and some time to read.

The laptop is worth less than the cost of repair.

Assuming you have a spare computer that you can use, at this point, you should just find a service manual for your laptop and try to do it yourself.

If you need to find old Catalyst drivers, you just simply use Google.

I have no spare computer and I need this one for working. Currently, I have no money to go spending on computers. My situation is dire. Buying another one right now is out of question and since I need this one, it is unthinkable to go around opening it, running the risk of it not working anymore.

Anyway, I have found this: http://www.oldapps.com/ati.php

I don't know which to pick. Should it say that it is for W7?

So, I did another thing. I updated the driver. Now, it seems that videos on Youtube... are completely black. I hear the audio (and it's not freezing), only I can't see the video itself.

*Sighs*

Just download the right one for your OS.

For example, if you have 64-bit Windows 7 on your laptop, you should download one of those that is labeled "Vista/7 x64."

Honestly, I don't know which Catalyst driver can solve your YouTube problem. You just have to pick one and hope it works.

Which web browser are you using to watch YouTube?

Little update --

I tried to shut off the computer to go do something and to my surprise it didn't just shut off. Firstly it went to a black screen, then back to the normal screen, then to black screen (this repeated a lot), but then it shut off.

I am beginning to worry.

I am using Chrome. Tried IE and even Firefox. It was all the same.
