Always played mage but want to try something new. I'm looking for a fast pace kill style. Hopefully, one I can solo later on once I get the hang of it. Also what origin should I go for?

I haven't played Awakening yet, but if you're looking a fast-paced killer, just like I was, then I can wholeheartedly recommend a cunning-based rogue with dual daggers. That thing is incredible. Not only you won't have any trouble with locks and traps, it could as well be the character with just about the highest single-target DPS in the entire game. The build itself possibly needs a little more thought than a mage or a warrior, but as long as you cover the essential talents, you should be fine. I'm not sure if it's suitable for solo, though, I haven't tried that yet and I'm not sure I will. As for the origin story, I went with human noble, but I guess most if not all are suitable.

Dual wielding daggers, once you get the hang of it, kills very fast. as for origins, if you want a blood fest, the female city elf, if you roleplay, lends herself to a slaughter obsessed revenge weasel style of play. But all the origins work.

After testing and mixing it up with different classes in DA:A I felt like 2h Temp/Berserker is the most fun to me. Any advice on point distribution, talents, and gear? I decided to role dwarf since human noble isn't my taste. Might go noble. Thoughts?

Edit: I didn't make it far after lothering as a 2h because the attacks are too slow. Every time I try rogue I don't know if I'm allocating the points right. Should it be Dex > Cun or Cun > Dex? After playing mage on nightmare for a bit I can finally understand why they are so feared. Walking bomb is a party downer. Anyone have any advice for a rogue walkthrough on nightmare?

Hahaha. . fast paced? dual wielding daggers rogue? You are given a misconception.

To me fast paced is I can attack  anywhere I want anytime I want with the needed survivability. So attack and still live after.

That would be Shield/Sword or Axe combo or 2hand Wield!

why?

Shield/Sword or Axe = more stuns on skills, AWESOME survivability and a mofo juggernaught with Champion Specialization! War Cry them down then go Berserk! use Final Blow BOOM BOOM POW!

2hand Wielders? = awesome still with Champion Specialization! WAR CRY BOOM! Less stuns but more deadly hits! Mighty Blow! Two hand Sweep for frontal AOE and if you want it to be more awesome get the MOD 2 hand momentum and see yourself killing emissaries and elites with ease while on Powerful Swings mode!

Archers would be good too if only those skills were not too limiting. .

Every skill takes too much stamina and too long cds.

Love that Arrow of Slaying though always 1 hit even for emissaries.

I soloed with dagger wielding rogue on Nightmare. The lack of companions meant it was pretty boring, but it was really quite survivable.

Stealth is your friend in that situation.

Stealth is very useful. . but in my opinion no offense meant, stealthing the battle takes too long for the battle to finish.

But for people who want a challenge and is patient then rogue would be good :D

But for those who just want to wham bam and boom through every battle then SH+Sw/Ax or 2H wield would be the best choice.
