Great post OP. I think anybody with an IQ higher than 80 and above 16 years of age will agree with you. All those singing the games praises obviously don't care about story, strategy, RPG, choices mattering, etc, but only about button smashing fights and graphics. 

 

This game is NOT an rpg but an action game with no substance for brainless fetch quests and button smashing.

Where the hell is all of the story BioWare?!?!?!

 

It took you 3+ years to make a game with 95% side quests and 5% actual amazing content?!?

I guess the definition of grinding has drifted a bit, then, since I played MMO's. In my day it was just "doing the same minor quest/dungeon over and over again until you accumulate enough reward to buy a new piece of gear." I didn't know that having a recipe system counted as "grinding" these days. Or selling old gear and vendor trash. Oh well, learn something new every day.

 

Waiting 4 hours on a waiting list to get a spot in a Fins group....

Well my definition of grinding is being forced to stop any quest but especially the main quest just to increase my Level by doing other things. That's when it's a grind, when the choice is removed, It's irrelevant if I enjoy the other activity, when I have no choice.

The Main Quest line should have enough content to enable you to reach the required level by doing only the main quest line, that's not possible here.

 

I'm not talking about not having a high enough level to fight a dragon, and having to return later. They are single events not quests, but once a quest line is started at the recommended Level it should be completable without doing anything but that questline, the Main Quest isn't and is ridiqulously short as a result.

 

As for DPS making sense for all but mages. No.

Every classes weapons can have bonuses against certain opponents and defenses.

As I said in OP

Having just finished playing this game, the only good thing about this blatant MMO styled game, is it's actually single player.

 

DPS, what a load of MMO rubbish that is.

I have a Staff With 78 base damage, +32 against demons +20 Cold Bonus, 20% Guard Penetration and 10% Barrier Penetration.

 

Fighting

Fire Demon=78 +32 +20 +10% B

Pride Demon using Guard=78 +32 +20% G +10% B

Red Templar Mage using Barrier=78 +10% B

Red Templar Archer out of Barrier Range=78

 

Yet somehow my DPS=160

Replace Staff with any type of Weapon in the game, nothing actually changes.

 

It's a meaningless Statistic, 160 damage per second against which opponent, using what defense. Pick any one that it applies to and that means it can't apply to the others as well, whatever weapon it is and whatever the class using it,

DPS actually tells you nothing useful at all with magical weapons, only using the base damage makes any sense for DPS and that's already given as a separate stat.

 

Also the Class/Weapon are the same thing here, as no one can use a weapon not for they're class, because only rogues can use a knife right.

Staffs I can accept need a mage to trigger them, but the other weapons should be usable by all classes, with an unskilled penalty applied.

 

Lastly the Playable areas consist of the southern halves of Orlais and Ferelden and Half is being very generous in both cases.

The way it was portrayed I expected locations in all the major countries. Not multiple isolated spots of Two half countries, it would have been better to link them all together. Even if the game area was no larger at all, it would have felt much larger, if we could actually traverse it from one end to the other. Instead each isolated spot felt more like a dungeon, many were small dungeons.
