this sounds so terrible. I never play mean or evil, this is my first time and if I'm going down that path I might as well do it right :-/ right?

I think Cassandra is the only one that will never leave. But am not 100% on that. But I do know SHE will never leave.

Solas never leaves either. I think the rest can.

Actually, it's Varric.
If Cassandra is the divine, I think you have the option to let her stay in the group or focus on becoming the divne after the game.
The rest has crisis moments or you can not allow to be in the game in the first place. Solas always leaves you at the end of the game.

I thought Varric had the possibility of being killed off if you let him keep the idol shard from DA2? Was that just a rumor?

It seems possible to talk people out of leaving, too. I've only gotten two major disapproval scenes (both in one playthrough) and Cassandra slurred her way through something along the lines of 'But my work is not yet done!' I remember from the pre-game hype, they said something like 'it's possible to end the game with only one companion!' but...I'm not sure that held up. Though if you count post-game play as 'ending the game' then you could probably get close to it.
Edit: Varric survived in my playthrough with the shard. He just went on and on about the fancy box and the research protocols he'd set up for it.

That was total BS. All that changes is Varric put the shard in a vault and is studying it.

I was very disappointed by this rumor being false. I thought choices would actually matter and that companions were at risk, but the game decided to be incredibly safe.

I 100% agree with you. When that rumor started I was very exited. Sounded great....

I heard that Varric leaves you if you have bad approval and leave Hawke in the fade, may just be a rumor.

There is not even a disapproval scene for him, he just talks down on you for a bit. A lot of people were led astrayed from the trailer which show Varric turn his back but it's actually the scene where Varric says he knows where Hawke is.

So sounds like your first three will always be around. The others can all be left out or driven out.

Why would Solas leave? Doesn't he want the orb back? You'd think he'd want to stick til the end even if Quizzy is the ultimate jerk face.
The orb broke at the end. You didn't get to the ending yet? Yeah, except for Varric, everyone can leave you.

Has anyone actually had someone leave them in the middle if the game? I had people say they hate me, but no one left.

He doesn't know it's broken til the end. He talks about wanting to get the artifact in Haven. So my original post stands. Why would he leave if he wants the orb back? He has no clue it's broke until after the end fight, because it breaks at the end. He leaves at the end.

When you leave Hawke in the fade though, you immediately get Varric greatly disapproves. Right after you step out and he asks where Hawke is.
In the first conversation with him back at Skyhold after I left Default McBeardy Hawke in the fade (my import didn't work on that playthrough lol) I got a "greatly approves" so it was canceled out. He already liked me before the whole fade thing though.

I was really hoping to drive people away, so I let everyone join. Hmmmm I was excited about the 'end the game with one person' comment, but it's not seemingly like a possibility. Unless it means the very end. But I was leaning more towards during the middle.
Has anyone actually had someone leave them in the middle if the game? I had people say they hate me, but no one left.
Yeah, they want you to have at least the full time to face the final boss, but the aftergame can only have 3 people and 2 can or will leave after the game which leave you with Varric only.
There are several videos where they leave. I'm too nice to be mean to anyone but you can make a lot of them leave.

Man Blackwall's disapproval just makes me wanna hit him. Why can't we punch him in the face instead of Dorian.

Ahhh perfect. I don't know if I can do this, but I'm going to try. It was hard to watch lol especially Cole :-(Yeah, they want you to have at least the full time to face the final boss, but the aftergame can only have 3 people and 2 can or will leave after the game which leave you with Varric only.

Awww man it's just tough having to be this bad. I can't deal with Dorian's complete disapproval and to hit him? >_< and Sera! Even though she's not my favorite, the way you can treat her is pretty sad. Ughhhhhhhhhh ![]()

Personally, threatening Sera and watching her scurry away like a frightened child is one my favorite possible scenes in the game.

If you mean crisis events, then the primary three (Cass, Solas, Varric) are the only ones who will not leave. Makes sense, since you're capable of never recruiting the others.
For those that never leave at all, including for story reasons, Varric is the only one.
