I need some help. I've been playing the game on hard and while I struggled with managing my party and their health bars at first, i eventually got used to it and it has been relatively smooth sailing from there (with some exceptions of tough encounters). However, all of a sudden my tank (Blackwall) just dies so easily!

He's around level 15 and all he has to do is run into a small group of just three, say like an archer and two melees, and he will just get absolutely destroyed. He dies so fast that I have to burn all my potions. I'm not sure what happened either. Does the game just dramatically get more difficult post lvl 15 or is he lacking in armor or what? Currently hes got 14% magic defense and 16% melee defense with 178 armor for his chest plate. He's got other defensive trinkets too but he still drops like a rock.

Can someone help me out here? Am I doing something wrong all of a sudden or did the game just randomly spike in difficulty? This is just me, but I feel like some of his armor perks aren't working from his specialization tree and may be a bug where he takes more damage? Idk. I need help!

EDIT: After looking at his stats, his defense values are all in the negatives! Is this a bug or is something wrong?

Does he have any items equipped that grant Berzerk?  If so, those also cause the character to take more damage.

It's the Berserk enchant that is the culprit, yep. It'll say something like +10% damage dealt and 100% damage received.

I'm betting since you're 15 you probably have the Winter's Breath shield on him, banish that thing to the junk pile!  :P

^ This.  If you gained an extra 50% damage (or more), it might be worth it.  But doing +10% damage and taking double damage (+100%) from everything just isn't worth it.  However, you should at least have your tank go up against an Arcane Horror once with an item that grants Berzerk equipped.

Hint:  Your tank would last about 5 seconds, if you are lucky, if the Arcane Horror does ranged attack.  I remember when my level 20 Cassandra died in about 3 seconds, with full barrier and guard, to a level 15 Arcane Horror's ranged attack.  She was wearing a crafted heavy armor with 308 Armor rating.  It was mildly humorous.

ya I got caught out with the berserker rune as well on one of my weapons I wasn't paying attention and gave it to my tank, was getting 1 shotted by things and couldn't work out why. and there's like the improved berserker rune as well that takes 200% damage, I think it's kind of excessive really, 10% more damage isn't worth a 100% damage debuff, it should be like 20% or something debuff.

It's very likely a berserk item.

That is seriously stupid. For only 10% more damage, the character shouldn't receive more damage. Especially in a game which has magical healing from chemicals but no magical healing from mages who are the only ones who would actually be able to enable that kind of healing.

The game mechanics of this game were flawed from conception.

It seems like it does more than -100% to all of your resistances, it applies itself after taking your current resistances into account so if you had +30% melee resistance it wouldn't read -70% but -130%... :o

Even if they made it an even trade of +10% damage for -10% resistance they would have to make it apply that effect before everything else so it can be properly mitigated. If they just chipped off a zero it would still take that +30% melee defense into account when applying the -10% debuff. That wouldn't be as shocking but it still wouldn't make sense to use.
