Hey there,

I know that rogues can both dual wield and equip a bow and arrow (just not at the same time). Is it worth it at all to allocate some points to either spec ? Contextually if id rather be a ranged rogue for some battles and up close and personal in others? It just better to do a play through as a DW and go archer the next time around ?

You could always respec and see what you like more of the two

I strongly suggest double dagger tempest. Put a Dual Blade in your main hand, and a normal dagger in your off hand. You won't regret it. It's the second most overpowered spec behind Knight Enchanter.

Speccing into both is a great way to gimp your character. Use throwing daggers if you want some ranged.

Look matth has laid it out before in another thread as well;

1: Tempest: its the spec that changes how a rogue plays a lot, like a pseudo warrior/control

2: Artificer: Slight change to how a rogue plays

3: Assassin: Classical rogue of stealth and burst. Enhances your rogue even more.

Choose your spec based on what you prefer.

Each class has a combination of specs like this from changing the playstyle completely to a bit to enhancing the style.

ok, that's what I figured. I'll go melee this time around and archer next time. I totally forgot about throwing daggers. Warrior doesn't interest me at all currently. Thanks for the advice

Is that so? I'll add a "DW Tempest Rogue wielding two Dual Blades (Basically short-swords) with Guard On-hit enhancements" to my future playthroughs list, DW Warrior from DAO returns!

If you abuse Tempest to it´s fullest (i.e using mark of the rift and thousand cuts with fireflask with lvl 3 focus) as well as switching to another partymember during lightning flask, Tempest is the single most powerful spec in the entire game by a large margin. It trivializes every encounter on nightmare, including dragons and emprise du lion.

I´ve done a playthrough of both btw, so I´m not just pulling this statement out of a hat.

The biggest strength of the tempest is also it´s biggest weakness. With everything being so easy, the game gets boring really fast. If you do choose the tempest route, use fireflask to spam things like throwing knives and stay on your character during lightning flask. I ended up doing that, and actually had a great time with the spec, I felt powerful but not overpowered.

Yes abusing bugs makes the game boring.

Guard-On-Hit works really well with archery, too. One leaping shot alone grants you nearly three bars of guard.
