I don't know if it's just me, but ever since Dragon Age 2 I just have not been a fan of how the Dark Spawn look. In Origins I thought they looked great as being monsters and such. Granted, they did kind of look like the orcs out of LOTR but I felt like that was fitting if they're suppose to be dark reflections of men's evil or w.e. Since DA 2 though, they look kind of goofy. I kind of want to go as far as to say they sort of look like zombies, at least in Inquisiton anyways. To me they just looked far more sinister in Origins and Awakening than they did 2 and Inquisition. Anybody else feel that way?

I've never understood why people think they looked like orcs. To me, they didn't. I'm guessing it comes of people watching the movie adaptations of The Lord of the Rings or something. They certainly don't look like my imagination of orcs, although that would probably be a more fitting way for them to look then they do now... in Origins, they looked fairly creepy and rotting, but in DA II and DA:I I agree that they just look goofy and grey. The Hurlock Alphas got hit especially bad. Those faces are very difficult to look at and not laugh about.

I agree. I read that the reason they changed the appearance was because they thought the DA:O Darkspawn didn't look like diseased versions of the races they were supposed to represent enough... but it makes no sense to me.
This looks like a diseased human more than the putty men of DA2.

All I ever wanted is to have a broodmother servant of my own that that will cook for me, clean the dishes, wash the car, etc... and more importantly comes with special benefits...
The Lusty Broodmother Maid.

You know I think this was decision based on a whim. One dev said lets make the Darkspawn more ugly the players will like that without doing a focus group a poll or interviews to see if that is true. Bioware has to learn what is not broken does not need to be fixed. Of course I know they know that since they use that same formula for most of their games but sometimes they take risks and it does not pay off. They should just stick with what they did best and the players liked.

LoL. Maybe in the next DLC. Like a "Acquire Lusty Broodmother" war table mission. Have Cullen and his soldiers dig her out of some thaig.

I agree completely. I'm adding this point to the list over here. You're welcome to drop by and check. http://forum.bioware...sible-spoilers/

Well I said orcs because I couldn't really think of a better comparison at the time for them. Out of all of Bioware's appearance changes, I just literally cannot fathom why they changed the Dark Spawn. If they're suppose to be like monsters, then Origin's appearance fitted them to a T.

I -think- I actually like the new design for the Genlocks and Hurlocks -but-...
I think the skeleton rigging for Hurlocks is what makes them seem goofy, they have this "possessed skeleton" hopping run and movement, they are too spry and less powerful than before, they move like marionettes.
I actually like the new Genlocks that we saw in DA:2.

I actually like how they look in inquisition "sigh" but each to their own I guess.
They kind of look like clowns to me to be honest XD I saw one person compare them to the putty squad from Power Rangers before LOL

there no point in saying anything about it,.. I mean from what I gather anyone who was at bioware ar when dao was made is gone ,If I could get my money back , as I most likely wont ever finih this game, but its time to find a new franshice to be a fan of, and its a joke to see mike laidlaw doing interviews calllng this game dark fantasy, most people describe it as beautiful , the whole art direction and animation system has gone downhill in my opion

I think it would be more suitable for Varric in his next romance novel called "The mischievous
Grey Warden and the lusty Broodmother".

I smell a bestseller. But seriously a broodmother like next to the stables in Skyhold would be nice... just for the heck of it. And Dennet is like: "I don't care, whatever."

In my opinion, darkspawn in Dragon Age Origins looked the best, on the other hand they're not so bad in Inquisition as in DA II. If I had to decide, then some step back to the vision of darkspawn in DA:O would be the best.
Whatever will the Bioware decision, I hope that in fourth part of Dragon Age we won't have to fight against darkspawn, so there would be no dilemma how to create them.

Imo Dark Spawn are just always going to be around. As they established in the other games, they're numerous in the Deep Roads so whenever the Deep Roads are involved then I'm sure we'll still be seeing them.

But Darkspawn are NOT diseased versions of the other races. Ghouls are infected people it's true, but the Darkspawn themselves are an entirely separate species.
I don't get why BioWare wants to try and shift the Darkspawn in that direction. IMO it's like saying that the HR Geiger Aliens are just infected people. Darkspawn take the traits of their parent race but they are as close to humans/elves/dwarves/qunari as a human is to a Geiger Alien.

They aren't shifting them. That's always been their lore sanctioned appearance. Darkspawn aren't originally people, but they are meant to look like their base race.

I get that, but I don't agree with the design shift in making them look more like infected people than a separate race. Plus, Darkspawn like the Ogres look hardly anything like their parent species; apart from horns and pointy ears.

The ogres look exactly like a male qunari, just bigger and more monstrous. In fact they look the most like their other race (since qunari were always meant to look as they do, apart from the tails).
