I haven't played it in a while, but I think it helps to pick and choose which side missions to acquire. I avoid Helena Blake's entire series just by never walking close enough to her on the Citadel, and some of the others won't pop up if you stay out of certain non-essential systems. Doing every single one of them would probably get tedious after a while, but I rarely do that anyway. With an RPG that I like and plan to play more than once, I'll probably pick sidequests based on which ones fit best with the personality of the character I'm playing.
This game is really not great - it's just okay, or only parts of it are good

Well, I don't think he is necessarily the only augmented person in the galaxy, just the only one in the squad. And the original post I answered to was this:
Not the only one in the squad. Tali is as well (as are all quarians more or less) and it is specifically referenced several times in multiple games.
As of ME2, Garrus is too. After being nearly killed by the missile "the docs corrected with surgical procedures and some cybernetics". (although one may not take "corrected" to necessarily mean "augmented").
Technically, so is every biotic using an amp we get.
Those are just the ones we know of/are referenced. There are NPC's directly referenced as augmented as well (e.g. Armali Sniper Unit and it's Widow operators, and TIM/Saren obviously). Salarians apparently are into replacing even brain functions with cybnernetics (EDI describes them as "embracing" the concept), so for all we know Mordin could be a transsalarian or whatever and it's just never mentioned because it's relatively commonplace (i'd doubt it given his dim views of the collectors/geth, but it's possible).

What does he say about the geth that connects to what he says about the Collectors? I got from his dialogue that he was remarking on how the Collectors were basically just remnants of a dead civilization reduced to nothing but reaper thralls, since anything they used to be was essentially replaced by tech, and they were nothing but drones. Heck each one was potentially a link for Harbinger to personally puppeteer.

I just meant augmented with these upgrades like heavy skin weave, etc. that just give bonuses to Shepard.
BTW: Is it ever confirmed that the quarians systematically use cybernetics? In the codex, it says it's just a rumor and there is a line in the Ascension novel, where a guy who saw quarians without suits remarks that it's not true.

The biggest flaw (in my book) was that it was ported, just barely, from a console to a PC. The fit and trim of the games improved greatly with each iteration with ME3 being quite good in game control.
As for story, I loved the ME1 story. Sure, the endless side-quests on barren planets can get monotonous and how many times does it take repetitions of "the enemy is everywhere!" before you go nuts? Overall, I still like it BUT think the weapons should have been better to start with: sniper rifles that barely do any damage until you've tarted it up heavily. There's not a sniper rifle in the world that wont blow brains out in one shot...you don't need to trick them out, they just do their job.
It is a flawed game, but every game is flawed. Though the execution of the plot and characters in this game is amazing, and Saren is such a compelling villain. True i enjoy Mass Effect 2 more than Mass Effect for various reasons, but this game is still great, it is a work of art. Nitpicking really irks me, like alot, but i tend to do it myself from time to time, like with Dragon Age II.

It's not much, but one of the disparaging remarks Mordin uses when describing the Collectors as mindless, culture-less drones is "worse than the geth", which wouldn't make sense if he had a high opinion of them.

I don't really see the distinction apart from numbers in gameplay and perhaps the extent of the modifications. Tali's health increases in her passive tree in ME2 are also described as due to cybernetic enhancements, for instance. Some biotic squadmates like Jack also recieve upgraded amps.
Tali partially confirms the rumours in an elevator conversation when Kaidan and Ashley ask about them, saying she has "synthetic parts", though she denies the implication of legally being a synthetic. When the quarians were first being imagined, they were visually a bit more overtly cyborg, and you can still see this in Tali's ME1 design (e.g. tubes sticking out of arm and such). She also describes all quarians being fitted with implants related to at least the immune system before going on Pilgrimage in conversation IIRC (it's been awhile since I played ME1).
In ME2, you have the passive description listed above for an individual example, and Harbinger's opinion on the species viabality for a Reaper (occasionally heard when using the respective squadmates to fight his thrall) is, "considered due to cybernetic augmentation, weak immune system too debilitating".
here's the full list BTW

ME3 there isn't much mention of it other than the primary codex entry rumor. You just have the stock photo with the dumb lines, which I'm just assuming are supposed to be akin to implants ala Renegade Shep's pizza face. I guess you could include by implication the insanely dumb bit about geth software "fixing" the quarian immune systems via the suits, seeing as it wouldn't make sense (or rather would make even less sense than the nonsense it already is) if the suits were just shells and weren't somehow intergrated with their bodily functions.
