If you're not crafting, you're playing the game wrong.
Yes, there is a right-way and a wrong-way to play RPG's -- skipping the portion where you make all the best armor and weapons is the wrong way to play.

I don't consider it essential, but I am not playing Nightmare
RPG, for me, is not about being Tim Allen in Tooltime crafting my own stuff, I prefer to find ancient armor with history after a massive battle or inside a trap-filled crypt. Or assembling the armor-pieces together scattered across various tombs. Much more satisfying for me than .. well ... doing it at the workbench. Personally I consider excessive crafting to be the bane and plague of many modern RPGs ...
I couldn't help but lol. What kind of players are these and why, for heaven's sake, do they play RPGs?
And how will a player who doesn't like looting obtain schematics for crafting? Most of them are either loot drops or bought from stores... with money you looted.
I'm not one of these players. I loot everything and if my bags are full I go sell and continue looting. I have seen these people here on the forums though, so I know they exist, which is why I made the comment. You can also get schematics from war table missions. Most of the cloth and leather you get is found on general mobs, and I'm sure there are many people who only loot named mobs (quests, dragons, bosses), or major chests, so these players will have a dearth of those materials for crafting.

To be honest I've always wished those 2 dudes walking around the map carrying a chest (I call them Cheech and Chong) would harvest everything in the area and put in the chest for me to take. :3
Not really. The last few missions are real easy so you don't need any crafted armor.
Also collecting materials is a drag. Where did those pesky merchants with infinite supplies (From DAO) run off to???

Yo, dude, check the Crossroads merchant (that little town in the middle of Hinterlands). He sells the best herbs for 20 bucks a piece. Good stuff ![]()
my armor sets people on fire on hit and my sword dishes out hidden blade on hit.... Crafting is not essential but it's worth it.
It's much better to craft than rely on loot drops, the only decent gear I can see you getting from a drop would be from the last three dragons. Plus crafted gear looks tons better.
