In every game/expansion (except for Origins, obviously), there was a companion from previous game who appeared again as teammate (Oghren, Anders and Varric). Assuming the next game will fullfill this tradition, who do you thing will be our companion from Inquisition?

As for me:

I think we can leave out Cassandra and Vivienne, since they can either become next Divine or remain with Inquisition/Orleasian court. Solas is not likely (although he will probably play a significal part). Varric was already a companion in DA 2.

That leaves the Iron Bull, Dorian, Sera, Cole and Blackwall. I think all of them would fit into next DA (which will probably take place in northern Thedas).

I think Cole is most likely to return since he isn't romance option for Inquisitor (thus he has no reason to stay with them) and he is Solas' friend (although it seems Solas made Cole to forget him after the end).

Not anyone with a very varied ending. I'm thinking Solas since he is always part of the Inquisition.

Or, y'know, Bioware could decide not to be super predictable and not actually have any returning characters.

I'm still hoping for a slot for Bethany/Carver.

I hope they will stop bring back old characters it is rly unrealistic that same characters keep jumping around world bumping into new protagonist every game.

Cole would be difficult because of the dual path (spirit v human) and they are highly unlikely to bring back anyone who was a previous LI in a companion spot. I actually think they're going to bring Varric back a third time because a) continuity in the Keep with Brian Bloom narrating, and also) whilst we were introduced to Bianca, his story wasn't resolved as such, and he's guaranteed to be alive at the end of the game. So yeah, I think we'll be seeing Varric again.

I think we can safely assume that BW's out. He might get killed if you don't do anything on his personal quest.

I think I'd say Doriam, especially since we're likely to go to Tevinter. Plus, towards the end of the game he lays out a big reformist mission he wants to start in Tevinter, change his country around. I imagine ending slavery and corruption is a big plot line, hopefully not just a personal quest.

However, for repeatable characters, the repeats are ones that you couldn't romance the first time, so that technically only leaves us with Viv and Varric. I think I'm done with Varric as much as I love him and doubt Viv because she could be divine.

In reality they'll probably just creat a clean slate with cameos. We had our triage of southern thedas, so the next 3 games will be brand new. Cameos I could see Zev, Isabella, and Sten since they appear so minorly in their first or second appearances, and Sten we never saw again...

Hopefully none as I'm sick of companions returning in BioWare games. I'd rather a brand new cast for each protagonist. And please definitely not Cole. (Sorry, not his biggest fan personally...of all companions he's the one I don't want to see return in any DA game).

Cameos though... definitely Dorian and Iron Bull if we're hitting Tevinter. Dorian will probably be in some high position or reformation movement and Iron Bull will either be running around with the Chargers or the Qun depending on your choice in DAI.

I think if we get a 'returning' companion it'll be something from the DA2 route where previously NPC only characters (Isabela, Merill) become full fledged companions. My bets are on one of the Chargers (one can always 'get better'), Scout Harding (the Inquisition doesn't last forever), Bianca (which would actually be pretty awesome given her personality and knowledge), Dagna and, even though it may take plenty of hand waving, Ser Barris.

Also have a feeling Maevaris could be a companion. They wanted her in DAI but resources or some other thing, but if next game is in Tevinter she's the first choice given her status as a magister. Would love to have her as a companion or even significant NPC next game or even Inquisition DLC.

I think Varric would be the only one. Solas leaves the team and might never return again. Cassandra is potentially Divine and all the other companions are optional to recruit. And to be honest, I prefer if they brought an entirely new team. I like the cast in this game but I also not crazy about them. If they return as NPCs and cameos, that would be enough for me.

Dorian, definitely - he's David Gaider's character, and his story is practically screaming "I'm going back to Tevinter to make things better!"

Perhaps Shale, though I'm not sure Shale's character can be expanded.

Shale went to Tevinter with Wynne to go back to being an dwarf, but I suppose that failed. She then went Orlais to help Wynne and the mage rebels. Nobody knows were she went after Wynne funeral.

Hopefully none as I'm sick of companions returning in BioWare games. I'd rather a brand new cast for each protagonist.

DA had one returning per game so far, I don't think its that overplayed. Plus compared to something like Mass Effect, its one of the few elements that really feel like they are tying the games together, since every game so far has felt rather different from the others, had a completely new protagonist and a new setting for the most part (Even though Ferelden is in Inquisition, the only recognizable location there is Redcliffe, and you don't even spend all that much time there).

The returning characters also felt somewhat organic to the story (apart from Oghren in Awakening, if thats even comparable). They had motivation to continue on, goals to pursue.

In that sense, I agree Dorian would be a likely candidate if the game has anything to do with Tevinter. Varric again would feel played out, plus I want to see more Dwarven companions. Somehow we only get one per game...

Honestly, I can only really see Dorian and Iron Bull as possible companions next time around (IF we're indeed going North, and if we get any returnees at all).

It's highly unlikely that previous LI's would take companion's spot

Not sure that can be considered a rule since Anders' first appearance was in an Expansion that had no Romance options for any character. But it would be highly unlikely they'd be one again.

Besides, that would only really leave Cole and Varric from the Inquisition cast (Vivienne could be Divine, everyone else is a potential LI)

I don't know but I really, really want Dorian to come back as a companion. He's just fabulous in every way, and I'd love to spend more time with him. He needs to be besties with my next protagonist too.

My bets are:

- Varric again. Fan favorite, still has story to go.

- Solas, unable to removed from the cast until the end. Great exposition dump character.

- Cole, extremely unique character, still has growth yet to go through.

- Dorian, if we go to Tevintar he already suggests he's returning home.

Unfortunately I don't think any of the girls are likely. Cassandra can be divine, as can Vivienne. Sera was too hit or miss for Bioware to bring her back for a second round, and I doubt she would travel very far if the game takes place in a different location.

Magister Maeverais Tillani, the widow of Varic's cousin Thorold. She is also a transgender woman too. She is my best bet for a character that appeared before, comics, to show up in DA4.

This does mean varric can have a cameo as she is the widow of his cousin.

Varric's story seems unfinished, but I'm hoping they do that through Bianca.

Blackwall can die.

Iron Bull had a pretty good split so I'd say he's done.

Sera is amazing and I hope it's her. Plus her story doesn't really go far. But I mean that does fit her.

I didn't get dorian's quest so I can't say how unfinished his story is. But I'm hoping if he is a companion, Fenris will be one too. So the first time Dorian defends slavery, I can watch him get his heart ripped out of his chest.

That wouldn't exclude the possibility of a returning companion. Cole came from one of the novels as well.

Dorian most likely, he's pretty static and fairly popular

I'd love Dorian as a companion again, but given his LI status, that's probably not happening. I'd bet he is returning in some capacity, though.

Maevaris and Harding are definitely strong candidates.
