This is a way to make this work. Time travel. Not with a machine but with one's conscience.

After the Reaper War on earth, no matter whicch ending/color u chose, there were human reapers laying dormant in deep space. Should harbinger failed they would awkwen and so they did. After the resistance thought they won the war they were quickly attacked by the human reapers. What was left of the resistance quickly went underground into hiding. What remained of Shepherds companions fled with the resistance into hiding. The harvest began. As time went on the resistance numbers declined and the human reapers numbers increased.

1.) With the help of an Asari, Shepherd (if dead then his romance option or one of his companions) will be able to travel back in time to the events after Shepherd's death in the Collector attack on the original Normandy. (Before the events of part 2)

2.) Liara failed to retrieve Shepherds body and the deal between the shadow broker and collectors never went through. The Shadow Broker kept the body and is reconstructing Shepherd himself so that he can implant a chip in Shepherd's brain to control him.

3.) Liara, the Romance option or Compaion along with the new Asari with time travel ability help bust fully reconstructed Shepherd out of the shadow brokers base.

4.) Shepherd is being reconstructed inside A tube filled with water. Shepherd then hears The Shadowbroker ordering The scientists to implant a chip into his brain. Shepherd then regains conscious and starts struggling inside the tube. The scientists scrambles to kept him unconscious. He busts out of the tube with a biotic blast and lets out a roar with both arms flared out at his side. Boom! It turns out the shadow broker also upgraded him as well with new abilities! Dual wield Omni Blades!!!!

That is how part 4 should begin.

All in all, the main idea is to send shepherd or his/her love interest's conscience back in time with the help of a Asari to prevent what happens in the future.

A question: how exactly would Shepard prevent the future? As you undoubtedly noticed there was a key event that needed to be changed in The Days of the Future Past. There is no such event in Mass Effect trilogy that can prevent the Reaper arrival. And no such event to convince Council to work on the Crucible beforehand (you need to convince them even when the Reapers are already there!).

A new plot. There is no preventing the reaper invasion that is true, but Shepherd going back to a time before the arrival to better prepare for the arrival and prevent the reapers from making human reapers. Do note that going back in time, causes collapse in key events that's should have happened in the previous parts but never happened because Shepherd is now doing something different.

Oh dear God no! ~Moe Szyslak

I hated the time travel logic of DoFP, and I see nothing but bad things for this as well.
